I will have the school mobile with me so please phone the school directly for any absences or bus changes. Students have settled in well, attended an outdoor cinema session and organised duty groups. This afternoon they have surfed and tonight we head off on a night hike to spot the ‘drop bears’! Tomorrow morning we will be heading off to another education session with the rangers followed up by lunch before heading back to school. I know everyone will have a fantastic time and come home ready for a big sleep in—in their own beds. Thank you to everyone who has helped with the organisation of the camp, especially to Mr Farrell for giving up three days away from his young family to attend the camp. Thanks also to the parents who are preparing and delivering our meals! Without your assistance we wouldn’t be able to offer these great extra curricula activities for our students. RESPECT FAIRNESS COMMITMENT Appointments Please PREP-2 READING HELPERS It is great to see so many parents in the morning, after school and throughout the day. A friendly reminder that if you wish to discuss anything about student learning and behaviour. then please make an appointment for a time that is convenient for both you and your child's teacher. Equally you need to make an appointment to discuss issues related to school policy, management, staff members or more complex student issues with Michelle. Without an appointment. we can not guarantee that Michelle or any of the class teachers will be available to talk to. Thank You to the parents who have already volunteered to help out with reading each morning. We would like to get a few more helpers involved. You do not have to commit to the same day each week, just come along whenever you can. If you can give up a half hour or so first thing in the morning, one day a week, please let Kerri or Ashleigh know. A reminder to all helpers, you must sign in and out at the office when you are helping in the classrooms. Waratah Athletics This is almost a picnic day at SGSC. Many parents from Fish Creek, Tarwin Valley and Tarwin Lower come along to watch and help. Just bring along a picnic lunch and a blanket. If the event has to be cancelled due to bad weather, it will announced on 3GG between 7.30—8.00am if needed Back Up Day for the Aths is Friday 28th March. Please make sure you have returned your Signmee or hard copy permission slip. Tea Cosy Festival The school has been asked to do the catering for the Elders Day during the Tea Cosy Festival. We have been asked to supply 10 plates each of : * sandwiches * hot food * cakes/biscuits/slices and waiter for the event. More details to follow, but please keep Wednesday 21st May free as many hands make light work! PnF The PnF held their AGM last Friday and the following people were elected as office bearers: President—Janine Taylor Secretary _ Peta Hamlett Treasurer— Colleen Williams Thanks you to the outgoing committee who had a fantastic year ensuring our children were able to enjoy the disco, hot lunch, Mother/Father day stalls and Christmas Lunch, just to name a few. It was decided that the committee should have financial members in line with the current PnF constitution so anyone interested in being a member is asked to pay 50c. This enables a vote for those who are paid up but in no way prevents people from coming to any meeting and sharing their ideas and thoughts. Payment is due by 28th March. Meeting dates have been set as the 1st Friday of each month from 9.00am in the staffroom. Next meeting is Friday 4th April and all are invited and encouraged to attend as we organise our part in the Foster Fete and the Charlie Brown Back to Day. Pop Top Bottles Needed Mrs Banikos is looking for 250ml bottles to use in a National Smiles Day Tuesday science experiment in the coming weeks so if you have any, please send them along to school. KidsMatter Primary Sports Report Research Based Practice KidsMatter Primary is underpinned by decades of solid research about mental health and wellbeing and the benefits of social and emotional learning in schools. It is informed by major international frameworks such as the World Health Organization’s Health Promoting Schools approach. World Health Organization It also draws upon the strong research base indicating that greater mastery of social and emotional learning improves students’ personal development, readiness to learn, classroom behaviour, and academic performance. This has been well summarised by CASEL Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning. KidsMatter Primary is committed to ongoing research and evaluation to ensure that we're providing the best outcomes for Australian children. Council On Tuesday the 1st of April (April Fool’s Day) the school will be dressing up as funny, colourful, wacky things! It’s a gold coin donation to raise money for the clown doctors who brighten sick children’s day in hospital. It is a great foundation for sick kids. Make yourself as wacky as you can!! By Phoebe & Mia Term 1, Issue 7 Stingrays Football On the weekend all the U 11s?U13s went to a BBQ sign up training session and had lots of fun. Fish Creek Netball Club. U11s and U13s have been training hard for their first game of the season against Dalyston in two weeks. BASKETBALLS Students are asked to limit the bringing of basketballs on the buses as they can be a bit dangerous. If students wish to bring their basketballs to school, the bus drivers have asked that they bring them in on a Monday and leave them here for the week, taking them home on a Friday News from the Grade 5 classroom Thank you to everyone who is using Signmee to return their permission slips promptly and efficiently. We encourage you to respond to the Signmee notification as soon as possible once you have received it as this helps cut the cost to the school since every reminder we send to you costs the school. Some of the reasons we decided to use this system were to cut down on the amount of paper we were wasting and reduce the time staff spent chasing up unsigned permission notes. If Signmee permissions are not returned by the due date, students may miss out on the activity. I’m sure you will agree Signmee is a great time saving tool and is very cost efficient if all parents respond promptly to the notification. 1st April Junior School By Kairon & Zali This week’s award goes to Emily Wilson for letting me use her computer to print my name tag. The news is out! Mrs King is expecting her first baby in September. Congratulation to her and Gaz Grade 5/6 Melbourne Camp Mrs King is currently spending a lot of time organising the itinerary for a great camp in Melbourne. Various options are being looked at and all efforts are being made to keep the cost of the camp down as much as possible whilst exposing our students to a wide range of activities. If any parent can drive a mini-bus and is able to go on the camp, we would love to hear from you. HELPING YOUNG CHILDREN WITH WRITING As a follow-up to our session on helping students with reading, Kerri will be running Nominated By Lara a similar session about writing next Thursday, 27th March at 2:30 in the Prep/1 classroom.
