GENERAL BODY MEETING NOTICE AND AGENDA ON PAGE 19.
Dear Devotees,
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you for participating in numerous great events this
year - New Year Puja, Mahashivaratri Mahotsav, Gayatri Maha Yagna to name a few. We had record
participation and record collection as well. This was possible only due to your kind cooperation and
participation in combination with tireless and dedicated services rendered by our EC members and
Temple Volunteers.
This year the Temple is going to embark on celebrating Lord Balaji Brahmotsavam from May 17 through
May 19. I sincerely request all of you to attend this great event as a sponsor or volunteer. As you know
the success of this type of event is solely dependent on your kind participation.
As a part of continuously improving our facilities, we are in the process of reconstructing Edith Street
and Temple Street entirely. Considering this voluminous task, I sincerely urge all of you to cooperate in
this matter.
In conclusion, I express my heartfelt thanks to all the BOT members, EC/OB members, volunteers and
the devotees for conducting the events successfully so far and thank you in advance for your participation
in other events to be held in future.

Message from the President
Namaste Devotees:
I am honored and blessed to be a president of this great
temple for the last four months. We had several religious
events. In February we celebrated Vasant Panchami with
students from Vidya Vikas school. The Mahashivratri utsav
was celebrated in March with record number of devotees. It
was estimated that 7000 devotees came for Shiv jiís
dharshan. The Holika dhahan and anand bazaar events were
outstanding. We again had record numbers of devotees who
came to play the Holi. Whole ground outside was filled with
people drenched in color having fun, enjoying the outstanding
music and variety of food. Mahalakshmi jiís birthday was
celebrated on March 31.
On April 7 , we performed 108 Kundi Gayatri Mahayagya.
The havan was performed by All World Gayatri Parivar. The
power of Bhakti was felt by the Yagya participants. This is
second time in temples history the yagya of this high
magnitude was performed successfully. The chaitri month
Durga Jagran was celebrated on April 13. Panguni Uttiram,
Ugadhi and Kavadi were celebrated followed by Ram Navmi,
akhand ramayan and Hanuman jayanti.
May is going to start with the Walkathon organized by our
Vidhya Vikas followed by their year end celebration of the
school year. On May 17-19 we are going to witness the grand
celebration ìBrahmotsavamî by the distinguished priest from
Tirumal Tirupati Devsthanam, our priests and priests from
different part of the country. We have Geeta Gyan discourse
by Bhai Shri Rameshbhai Oza on June 10-12. July 27August 3 brings us seven days of Bhagvat Katha by shri
Mridul Krishna Shastri. Please come and join for these rare
auspicious events.

On construction side, we have installed pair of double doors
between main temple lobby and youth center lobby. We also
removed the railing and leveled the surface in front of youth
center. I have heard lots of good comments about this
modification and it has also helped us a lot to control the
devotees traffic during major events. We are planning to
widen the Temple Way road and the construction work will
begin in the month of July.
My message cannot be complete without thanking all the EC,
BOT members , the management team and scores of
volunteers who help in making the temple run smoothly for
the devotees. These devotees are the integral part of our
temple and my sincere and humble pranam to them for their
support, dedication and devotion to the almighty.
Please visit our temple and contribute enthusiastically in the
collective effort for improving good activities at the temple
for the society and our biggest investment our children the
future of our ongoing Hindu heritage.

Brahmotsavam Celebration
Tirumala Brahmotsavam is a Hindu festival celebrated annually at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati in Andhra
Pradesh. The festival continues for 9 days in the months of September and October every year. It is believed that Lord
Brahma was the first to start this festival. He worshiped Sri Balaji on the banks of the river Pushkarini in Tirupati to
thank him for the protection of mankind. Hence the festival bears his name ‘Brahmotsavam’ which means Brahma’s
Utsav.
Celebration
Every year millions of devotees gather at the temple of Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala to take part in the festival. It
gives devotees an opportunity to receive the blessings of Sri Venkateswara Swami and experience “Vaikuntha Anubhava”
or heavenly enjoyment and feeling. The idol of Lord Venkateshwara is taken out for processions on different vehicles
on different days. The black idol of Lord Balaji is decorated with gold ornaments and precious stones to make the
procession more attracting. The festival attracts pilgrims from all parts of the country and even from abroad.
The Temple trust named Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) arranges for the smooth conduct of the Brahmotsavam.
The TTD also sponsors various cultural programs, including spiritual discourses and music concerts as part of
Brahmotsavam. Devotees are offered free meals and food packets on all days of the festival. The nine-day events are
also telecasted through various television channels. The activities of the nine days are described below:
Day 1 or Dhwajarohana
On the first day of the festivities, the flag is hoisted near the
Dhwajasthambham. The flag has an emblem of a black Garuda. It is on
this day that a marvelous procession of Lord Venkateshwara is taken
around the four streets of the main temple at ten in the night and continues
till midnight. The Lord is taken on a vehicle called Seshavahana during
the first two days of the festival.
Day 2 or Chinna Seshavahana
On the second day morning the Lord is taken out in a procession on
Vaasuki (Serpent God) as his vehicle. In the morning of the second day,
the Lord is taken out on the Seshavahana vehicle. In the night the deities
are taken to
‘Uyala Mandapam’ for the ‘Unjal Seva’. This is then followed by a
procession on the Hamsavahana. Hamsa or swan which symbolizes
purity is said to have the capability of distinguishing between the good
and the bad.

Day 3 or Simvahana
The day is called Simvahana (Lion Vehicle) symbolizing strength and
power. In the night, the deities are Mutayalapandiri Vahana which has a
pearl covering, a symbol of purity and royalty.
Day 4 or Kalpavriksha Vahana
On the fourth day, the deities take a ride on Kalpavriksha
Vahana in the morning. Kalpavriksha is a tree that grants
boons and satisfies the wishes of the devotees. After Unjal
Seva in the night,the deities are carried on Sarvabhoopala
(King of Kings) Vahana .
Day 5 or Garuda Vahana
Day 6 or Gaja Vahana
Fifth day of Brahmotsav is very unique. It is celebrated to commemorate
the Lord’s incarnation as Mohini. The legend goes that Lord Vishnu
assumed the form of Mohini or a beautiful girl to give amrit to the Devatas.
In the night after Unjal Seva, the Lord is carried on well decorated
Garuda Vahana. Garuda vahana is the most important and greatest of all
the vahanas and many pilgrims visit Tirupati on this day.
Day 6 or Gaja Vahana
On the morning of the sixth day the deities are carried on Hanumad
Vahana. Hanuman is the guest of this day. During the night the Lord sits
on Gaja (Elephant) Vahana which is a symbol of wealth.

Day 7 or Suryaprabha Vahana
Day 8 or Rathotsavam
.
On this day, the Lord is mounted on Suryaprabha Vahana or the sun
chariot. Surya or the sun is the other form of Lord Vishnu.According to
Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is the center of the
universe and to symbolize this Lord Vishnu uses Suryaprabha Vahana.
The Lord is taken out on Chandraprabha Vahana at night after Unjal
Seva. Devotees believe that it gives the Lord a soothing experience
when he travels on Chandraprabha Vahana
Day 8 or Rathotsavam
In the morning the Lord Venkateswara is taken out in procession along
with his concerts seated on a fully decorated Chariot pulled by the
devotees with the chanting of Govinda! Govinda! Tirumala is flooded
with devotes to witness this occasion. It is believed and said that those
who witness the Lord seated on the Chariot during Rathostavam will
not be reborn. Idols of Daruka the charioteer of Lord Sri Krishna and
four horses are placed before the Lord on the chariot.
Day 9 or Chakrasnana Mahotsavam
Palaki Seva and Chakrasnana Mahotsavam in the morning
andDhwajavarohanam are performed in the evening on the last day of
Brahmotsavam. Abhisekham is performed on this day by applying oil
and turmeric powder on the idols. The Garuda flag which was hoisted
on the first day is lowered on the last day.

Immortal Words of Swami Vivekananda
Those who work at a thing heart and soul not only achieve success in it but
through their absorption in that they also realize the supreme truth—
Brahman. Those who work at a thing with their whole heart receive help from
God.
We believe that every being is divine, is God. Every soul is a sun covered
over with clouds of ignorance; the difference between soul and soul is owing
to the difference in density of these layers of clouds.
Don’t look back—forward, infinite energy, infinite enthusiasm, infinite daring,
and infinite patience—then alone can great deeds be accomplished.
God is merciful to those whom He sees struggling heart and soul for realization. But remain idle, without any struggle, and
you will see that His grace will never come.
This is the first lesson to learn: be determined not to curse anything outside, not to lay the blame upon anyone outside,
but stand up, lay the blame on yourself. You will find that is always true. Get hold of yourself.
This life is a hard fact; work your way through it boldly, though it may be adamantine; no matter, the soul is stronger.
The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment
you reject all help, are you free.
Great work requires great and persistent effort for a long time. … Character has to be established through a thousand
stumbles.
We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. None else has the blame, none has the praise.
I, for one, thoroughly believe that no power in the universe can withhold from anyone anything they really deserve
What the world wants is character. The world is in need of those whose life is one burning love, selfless. That love will
make every word tell like a thunderbolt.
Fear is death, fear is sin, fear is hell, fear is unrighteousness, fear is wrong life. All the negative thoughts and ideas that
are in the world have proceeded from this evil spirit of fear.
Why are people so afraid? The answer is that they have made themselves helpless and dependent on others. We are so
lazy, we do not want to do anything ourselves. We want a Personal God, a Savior or a Prophet to do everything for us.
As long as we believe ourselves to be even the least different from God, fear remains with us; but when we know ourselves
to be the One, fear goes; of what can we be afraid?
We have to go back to philosophy to treat things as they are. We are suffering from our own karma. It is not the fault of
God. What we do is our own fault, nothing else. Why should God be blamed?
Even the greatest fool can accomplish a task if it were after his or her heart. But the intelligent ones are those who can
convert every work into one that suits their taste.
Fill the brain with high thoughts, highest ideals, place them day and night before you, and out of that will come great work.
Watch people do their most common actions; these are indeed the things that will tell you the real character of a great
person.
Our first duty is not to hate ourselves, because to advance we must have faith in
ourselves first and then in God. Those who have no faith in themselves can never
have faith in God.
This I have seen in life—those who are overcautious about themselves fall into
dangers at every step; those who are afraid of losing honor and respect, get only
disgrace; and those who are always afraid of loss, always lose.

Onam is the biggest and the most important festival of the state of Kerala. It is a
harvest festival and is celebrated all over the state by people of all communities.
According to a popular legend, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali,
whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam. Oman is celebrated in the
beginning of the month of Chingam, the first month of Malayalam Calendar.
Story goes that during the reign of mighty asura (demon) king, Mahabali, Kerala
witnessed its golden era. Everybody in the state was happy and prosperous and the
king highly was regarded by his subjects. Apart from all his virtues, Mahabali had one
shortcoming- he was egoistic. This weakness in Mahabali’s character was utilized by
Gods to bring an end to his reign as they felt challenged by Mahabali’s growing
popularity. However, for all the good deed done by Mahabali, God granted him a
boon that he could annually visit his people with whom he was so attached. It is this
visit of Mahabali that is celebrated as Onam every year.

Vidya Vikas online registration for school year 2013-2014 have been kicked off and is in full swing.
Anand Bazaar and Holi at the Temple was a very fun event. For the very first time, Vidya Vikas put up a booth in
Anand Bazaar. The veggie burgers and ice cream and kids snacks were all a SUPER Hit with the children, as expected
!!! Children participated in the Thirukkural competition held in the DFW Hindu Temple, requiring children to recite
Thirukkurals and their meanings in Tamil or English.
Another competition conducted in the DFW Hindu Temple was the Dharma Bee Level 1 and Level 2. This is a
competition that motivates children to learn about Swami Vivekananda.

We had a BLAST at Anand Bazaar selling the SUPER POPULAR Tender Coconuts.
Penny Wars, a fun fund raiser, is in full swing. Apr 28 is the last day of Penny Wars and the winner will be rewarded
with an ice cream party. New Youth Group Board takes over in June to be in sync with the academic school year.
