A letter from Superintendent Joseph Corr: On behalf of the faculty and staff in North Colonie, I’d like to welcome you to the 2014-15 school year. It is a privilege and an honor to work with you and your children, and we look forward to the wonderful task of providing a rich and rewarding learning experience for all. The North Colonie Central School District has a long standing reputation for academic excellence. We remain committed to ongoing school and district improvement with a strong focus on growing and sustaining teaching and learning. This year, North Colonie was once again ranked as one of the top area school districts, according to the 2014 Albany Business Review's Annual Schools Report. Our district is ranked #4 out of 85 districts, and Shaker High School is ranked #3 out of 82 high schools. I credit this distinction to the hard work of our teachers and students, as well as the unwavering support from our district families. I strongly believe investing in education is one of the best investments you can make. 41 years ago, I entered education as a classroom teacher. While at one time, my classroom was tenth grade social studies, I now look at the entire district as my classroom. Developing individual potential and doing best by our students represents my personal and professional goals, as well as my aspiration for all individuals who work in the district. I wish everyone a successful and healthy school year. May this year be the best one yet! @ NorthColonieCSD facebook.com/NorthColonie District Mission: All students are provided the opportunity and necessary support to engage in relevant, challenging work which contributes to their academic and social growth and development. All staff, teachers and administrators are part of a larger learning community working together to build collective capacity in order to provide a high-quality, relevant, equitable education for all. Faces of our future 3 Welcome Back The North Colonie School District is renowned for the outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements of its students as well as the superior financial management provided by its administrators and Board of Education. These two pillars of strength explain why the Business Review of Albany repeatedly ranks North Colonie as one of the top performing districts out of 85 districts in the Capital Region. Our Schools Approximately 5,400 students attend North Colonie, which has six elementary schools, a junior high school and a high school. Our outstanding professional staff is expected to meet high performance standards and therefore receives rigorous support through multiple systems and frequent professional development opportunities. Our Community North Colonie is a suburban school district situated in the heart of New York State’s Capital Region, which includes the cities of Albany, Schenectady and Troy. The district is home to parents who work in professional job sectors and who place a high value on quality schools for their children. North Colonie is located in a highly desirable area. The district is a short drive from downtown Albany, the capital of New York State, and a regional center of commerce, government and entertainment.
