AN INTRODUCTION TO DURESTA
A TYPICAL CONSTRUCTION - THE BLANCHARD ROYALE SOFA
Thank you for considering Duresta Hand Made Upholstery.
Duresta has been making high quality upholstery for 70 years. Our factory is in Long Eaton, a
Nottinghamshire town renowned for the skill of its people in all aspects of furniture making, from
the traditional joinery of frame makers through to all kinds of fabric cutting and sewing expertise
and, of course, an unrivalled understanding of upholstery. You will find that our furniture making
combines these skills with the best materials available to produce long lasting sumptuously
comfortable upholstery. Frames are made from selected hardwoods, each dowelled, glued and
screwed for trouble free long life. The standard specification, as can be seen opposite, includes coil
sprung seating for durability and comfort.
We always bear in mind that sofas and chairs are not merely functional objects for seating. They also
play an important part in establishing the character of the room they are set in. Although our designs
naturally respond to changing tastes, at the heart of each lies Classic English Style, which throughout
the world is generally considered to have a flavour of understatement, subtlety and fine proportion.

density foam, and fibres are used to make up the arms.

matched, all cushions are reversible.

5 High density edge profile is combined with foams,
felts and fibres to form a durable but flexible seat base.
We offer a very large range of fabrics which we source internationally to ensure the widest choice
of styles and colours. These are individually hand cut and expertly sewn with separate valances
applied by hand slipstitching. All undergo rigorous quality testing to reduce the incidence of
premature wear and tear and to guide you as to suitability.
For many years Duresta has held a unique licence which enables us to study closely the myriad
design details and original pieces of furniture found in the collections of The National Trust.
Where you find its symbol as you leaf through this catalogue it indicates that a design has been
based on such studies. In addition, we have recently introduced a small collection of fabrics, this
time inspired by the beautiful parks and woodlands in the care of The National Trust.

When purchasing furniture it is difficult to make a considered judgement about the various seat cushion interiors offered primarily because
most things feel comfortable when you have been traipsing around the shops for hours, it can be a joy to sit down on almost anything.

LEATHER FURNITURE
There is much to consider when choosing leather furniture as it is available in a great variety of qualities and finishes. At Duresta we seek to
manufacture upholstery to the highest standards and always endeavour to retain the natural beauty and integrity of good quality materials.
Only 5% of hides produced are selected for aniline dyeing and subsequent use by Duresta. The leather is soaked in transparent dye which
allows natural marks to remain visible. Every hide is unique and will exhibit colour fluctuations due to the tendency of leather to accept
dyes differently in specific areas. Natural markings such as neck and belly wrinkles, healed scars, scratches and insect bites are normal. It is
these, combined with the varied and interesting textures and colour effects, which our expert craftsmen carefully exploit during tailoring to
best reveal the full character and beauty of the material. It is important to appreciate that these characteristics will be present, they are a
natural hallmark and distinguish top grain aniline leather from the lesser grades used by the vast majority of manufacturers.
Top quality aniline hides, such as those used by Duresta, will gain in character over the years. Most scuffs and scratches will appear and fade
during use, and given the care due to any of your favourite possessions, your Duresta leather upholstery will endure for a very long time.
