This valuable resource will relay the university's contributions to public education. "My goal is to write not only a general history of the institution, but also some special profiles of some important alumni, faculty members, staff members, and supporters. There will be brief profiles interspersed throughout the book. These "Profiles in Viking Pride", I hope, will inspire young people and will touch the hearts of those who love ECSU." "Research for the book will come not only from the ECSU Archives, but from outside archives-the State Archives, Archives at North Carolina Central, as well as archives outside of the state," Bowman said. Like most freshmen, he noted the classes he would have to complete in order to earn his bachelor's degree in Aviation Science from Elizabeth City State University. He later also made room in his schedule Students from Perquimans Middle School - one of nine area schools (600 students) who participated in the Chancellor's Young Voyagers program on February 23. One day while scanning a bulletin board on campus, he saw an advertisement for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. This fellowship, funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Congress, annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals the opportunity to spend one year in the other's country, studying, working and living with hosts in a cultural immersion program. Marrow was accepted and served as what the agency describes as a Junior Ambassador. It was his first trip GIVE TO ECSU abroad for an extended period. It was also the turning point of his view of college as simply a slate of courses completed on a small, northeastern North Carolina campus. He was one of six individuals and one team slated for the March SHARE 1st induction in Charlotte, N.C. The induction ceremony caps Carmichael's journey to the South that began when he was a 20-year-old Army veteran from Trenton, N.J. A friend, Marvin Trotman from nearby Princeton, N.J., encouraged Carmichael to enroll at what was then Elizabeth City State Teacher's College. Trotman liked the university so much that he assured Carmichael he, too, could achieve there. Carmichael was reluctant but considered the suggestion. READ MORE Are you an alum with exciting news?
