Safety and security are your top concerns when towing, so keep in mind that many chassis manufacturers recommend a supplemental braking system for towed vehicles. Many four-wheel-drive vehicles such as most Jeep Grand Cherokees, and certain automatics fit into this category. The Chevy Cavalier, Chevy Malibu and — James and Patricia Turpin Pontiac Sunfire must have 4T40E transmissions. Many Saturns with standard transmissions and most 4wheel drive vehicles are towable as well. It’s important to know your vehicle’s requirements before towing, so if you’re unsure, check your manual or local car dealer. Make sure restraints are installed correctly and in good condition. 3. Use RV-actuated taillights or light bar on towed vehicle. 4. Make sure hitch is snugly engaged and the safety pin is in place to prevent accidental unhitching. 5. Inspect all lights at the rear of the towed vehicle. 6.
