INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the fourth edition of our education book. Please check it out and read about all of
the exciting activities and training courses we have planned for you!
To describe a professional, we would probably have to start with the definition: conforms to the
standards of skill, competence or character normally expected of a properly qualified person in a
work environment. My challenge for us is to think in the following context: What does my client
or new stylist and community feel about my level of professionalism?
An important factor in being considered a professional is to be part of a unified group, striving
to make their industry better. Professionals also have strict guidelines, such as following the rules
of engagement, behaving with conduct becoming of a professional in good standing, taking
ownership of their skills and pursuing ongoing training. Protecting and enabling the future is
also very important for professionals.
During my 27 years in the industry as a hairdresser, salon owner, platform artist and now as a
creative director, I have heard excuses/jabs such as “Stylists are creative, so we don’t have the
discipline” or “We are individualistic, so the thought of committees or group decisions turn us
off.” Or how about my favorite: “We are too emotional, so we can’t make a decision based on
reason or facts.” What a load of … you know!
There are so many stylists earning very low wages, and we the senior stylists of the industry, need
to be proactive in guiding their growth and ensuring that we can provide the roadmap for a
long, successful career.
I feel that mentorship is the key. Just recently I was reminded of the power of mentorship: Team
I.C.A.N., made up of hairdressers with less than three years of experience, WON at RAW Premiere
Orlando.

Sassoon realizes that not everyone can get to a dedicated Academy with the frequency
that they would like, so they will travel to you! In-salon seminars are suited to small
audiences and can last from one to five days, depending on the depth or level of
education required. The environment allows for a high degree of detailed instruction,
where every day begins with a demonstration, and the afternoons are devoted to handson learning.
CREATIVE TEAM
The optional addition of presentation models provides impact in illustrating the
demonstration. The in- salon seminar format can be delivered in an alternative venue,
should your salon not be spacious enough.
Please be advised that all hands-on and demonstration work undertaken by the Sassoon
team will be carried out on live models only.

For 30 years, Mark Hayes has been inspiring young hairdressers
at Sassoon with his passionate approach to hair and his
technical expertise.
North American Creative Director, Traci Sakosits started her training
at Sassoon in New York in 1992, where her talents were soon
recognized and she moved swiftly up the ranks. She transferred to
the Beverly Hills Sassoon Salon location as a stylist in 1994 and was
promoted to Assistant Creative Director by 1996. Traci’s next move
was to the Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles in 1997, where she has
been based for the last 15 years.
Richie Rivera started his Sassoon career at Sassoon Academy
in Los Angeles, CA in 1992. He then went on to complete his
Sassoon Salon apprenticeship in Boston in 1993, where he has
been based for the last 19 years.
Mark’s signature style – a series of pared-down looks reflecting
his love of modernist art and architecture – puts him at the
forefront of global hair design, and his role as International
Creative Director takes him all over the world, coaching,
teaching and inspiring.
He has ultimate responsibility for the renowned seasonal
Sassoon collections, eagerly anticipated by those wanting to
know the future of fashionable hair.
While in Los Angeles, she earned the roles of Creative Director and
Regional Creative Director. Then, in April 2012, her passion and
dedication to Sassoon led to her most recent appointment of North
American Creative Director.
As North American Creative Director, Traci ensures that there is
absolute consistency in education, while organizing and developing
her team. It’s a job that involves extensive travel both nationally and
internationally, spreading the word about the Sassoon methodology.

During Richie’s time in this Sassoon, he worked as Salon Color
Director, until being named East Coast Regional Color Director
in 2009. Then, in April 2012, Richie earned the prestigious role
of North American Color Director.
As the North American Color Director for Sassoon, Richie has
the ultimate responsibility of educating and developing the
next generation of colorists and tinters in all the North America
Salons and Academies.

Look & Learn seminars deliver an insight into the unique world of Sassoon education.
While the emphasis is firmly on technical instruction, presentation models complement
the step-by-step cutting, coloring and finishing executed by the on-stage Creative Team.
The Look & Learn seminar format offers a high degree of flexibility, ensuring that you
meet both your audience’s expectations and your business objectives.
