MovingForward Looking Back & Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching We will now be able to put our annual $63,000 payment into scholarships for students. Our deep commitment to strong preaching is exemplified in the establishment of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching. This initiative highlights AGTS’ commitment to train passionate, biblically centered preachers. We are grateful to Pastor John Lindell and James River Assembly, Springfield, Mo., for the initial funding of this effort. The legacy of Cordas C. Burnett is one worth emulating. His passionate preaching and commitment to the Bible led him to serve Assemblies of God (AG) institutions of higher education: Central Bible College, Bethany Bible College and the Assemblies of God Graduate School (now AGTS) as its first executive vice president. Dr. Doug Oss serves as director of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching. AGTS Annual Report 2006-2007 Knowledge on Fire Book Project AGTS’ commitment to developing Pentecostal leaders is seen in our faculty’s numerous publications, which have inspired scores of students. To honor this legacy of Knowledge on Fire, we have showcased these publications in the halls of the seminary. Each book can be sponsored for a donation of $500 with proceeds going to student scholarships. Currently 32 of 44 publications have been sponsored. Endowment Growth During the final months of 2006, AGTS received six significant contributions from individuals, churches and foundations totaling $220,000, including $150,000 designated for scholarship endowments. In another effort, AGTS employees established a scholarship endowment that has grown to nearly $40,000. We are grateful for the generosity of faithful donors who Board of Directors are making endowed scholarships for AGTS students a reality. Miraculous Provision In August 2006 I gave my annual report to the General Presbytery. Little did I know that 30 minutes later the General Presbytery would pledge nearly $375,000 to pay off the seminary’s long-term debt. General Superintendent Thomas Trask and Pastor Dan Betzer led the charge in challenging the General Presbytery to wipe out this debt. The seminary is grateful beyond words for their advocacy. We will now be able to put our annual $63,000 payment into scholarships for students. We are grateful to this Fellowship for supporting AGTS’ mission to train Spirit-empowered leaders for the 21st century. Our 2006– 2007 chair was Dr. Alan Johnson, veteran missionary to Thailand. Dr. Johnson’s stirring address to initiate this effort focused on the centrality of the apostolic function in the missionary enterprise. This prophetic sermon can be downloaded from www.agts.edu. Our 2007–2008 chair is Dr. Mark Hausfeld. Dr. Hausfeld serves as area director of Central Asia for AG World Missions. The first group of honorees nominated by the president and approved by the AGTS Board of Directors is: • Philip Bongiorno • Cordas C. Burnett • Charles Hackett • J. Philip Hogan • Arthur Klaus • Edgar Lee • Anthony Palma • Del Tarr The qualifications for this initiative are as follows: • Dedicated the majority of his or her life to significant full-time ministry in the AG. • At least 65 years of age; a deceased person may be honored posthumously. • An endowment gift of $25,000 or more to AGTS that honors the legacy of the candidate. Other opportunities for recognition include the following: • Champions of the Faith: current ministry leaders under the age of 65. • Communities of the Faith: churches investing in future Pentecostal leaders. • Heroes of the Faith: lay leaders recognized as examples of Spirit-filled life.
