Chapter Director’s Report
In last month’s article I stated that April was going to be a busy month and that sure turned out to be
true. It started on the 1st when 10 of us attended the Chapter H Gathering in Shelbyville. We were in
search of the Region N Wandering plaque, but unfortunately we were bested by the visiting chapter
from Knoxville, TN. I have to give them a tremendous amount of credit as they showed up with 14
people, half of which rode their motorcycles. That is impressive in itself, but when you realize that
they only have 16 people in their chapter it is truly amazing to have that large of a turnout. They must
have really wanted that plaque and they certainly deserve it. We have nothing to be ashamed of and
did very well for ourselves. The criteria for the Region plaque are that you multiply the number of
miles ridden by the number of people attending from your chapter and anyone on a motorcycle gets
double points. Any chapter from outside the district gets a “bonus” rider added to their score. We
would have won had the Tennessee chapter not been there. Again, my congratulations to them and
my sincere appreciation to those Chapter G members who made the trip along with Leah and I.
We had a very nice turnout for our April gathering as expected due to our having the District Traveling
Plaque. Our thanks to Chapters C and H for attending. Chapter H had the most members visiting, but
the plaque went to Chapter C, who defied the odds and won. Congratulations to Chapter C.
Unfortunately, our dinner ride conflicted with their gathering on April 16 th and we weren’t able to go
after the plaque. Speaking of our dinner ride, it was fantastic. Steve Centner led a great ride for us to
enjoy some beautiful scenery with perfect riding conditions. The ride was followed by a delicious meal
at Rafferty’s in Florence. I had reset my trip meter when I left my house and when I parked at
Rafferty’s it read 115 miles. The distance from my house to the Mt. Zion Kroger is 16 miles, so that
means Steve’s ride was just a mile short of 100. I’ll take that anytime!
The ice-cream rides are happening every Wednesday evening from now until October. Those of you
who attend certainly know first-hand what a great job Steve does leading them. I hope each of you can
find at least one Wednesday evening free where you can experience it for yourself. You will not be
disappointed.
We have a packed schedule coming up over the next couple of months. Please check the website often
for updates and keep watching your email for last minute riding opportunities. We can’t predict where
the Traveling Plaque will be and we want to make as many attempts to capture it as we possibly can.
Hope you can join us. Each attempt is a destination with an opportunity to have a good time with
friends from other chapters as well as our Chapter G family.

Assistant Chapter Directors Report
Hello all! The April meeting was another big one, due to the chapter
having the plaque. Since the weather has gotten better, we hope to
do some more riding to the events. Kathy and I will be going to
Spring Fling in TN to try getting some vendors for the KY Blast. If
there is anyone in the chapter who would like to be a vendor,
remember it’s half price! Ride Safe!

Congratulations to our winners from the April Get -Together. Angela Grigsby from Chapter H (2016
Couple of the Year) won the $10 membership draw this month. Ron Harper won 1st place of $50, Joe
Rogers won 2nd place of $30 and Jeff Sullivan (Assistant Chapter Director for Chapter C) won 3 rd place
of $20.

Rider Education Report
Now that it is June, and Tech Day has come and gone, we are ready to hit the road and ride. While we
each have our own favorite way to ride and places to go, we all share one thing in common – we all
need gasoline to operate our motorcycles. Gasoline contains a lot of energy. What other very
common, legal, affordable (relatively speaking), and readily available substance can propel a 3,500pound object 30 miles? Because we all use gasoline every day, it is easy to lose the respect we should
have for the potential danger of mishandling it.
Here are a few tips I found for fueling your motorcycle.
Turn off your motor. Besides being a federal law, it just makes sense. If the fuel was to spill as you
bring the nozzle from the filler neck, or as a result of an overfill, the risk of fire is much greater if the
engine is running due to the heat of the engine and the spark from the active ignition.
Take your helmet off. The rising fumes, which are not healthful, may get trapped under your helmet
visor and create a toxic cloud around your head. Also, if your helmet is still connected to your audio
system, it may be more difficult to get away if the fuel was to ignite.
Get off of the motorcycle. If you spill the gasoline, your clothing may get wet. Then what do you do?
Yes, it will evaporate, but it is the fumes of gasoline that actually burn, not the liquid itself. In fact, and
I do not recommend testing this, but if you take a lit match and place it fast enough into a container of
gasoline, the match will be extinguished, without starting a fire. You must immediately drench the
effected clothing with water and then remove them. Do not walk anywhere with gasoline on your
clothes. Static electricity may cause the fuel to ignite.
Turn off your ignition, all electrical accessories, and especially your mobile phone. Do not smoke
within 20 feet of the pump. This is also federal law.
A fire at a fuel pump happens somewhere in the United States almost every day. Be smart, obey the
rules, and stay safe.
What are your plans for Memorial Day?
"This weekend I am going to do something different. I am going to buy some carnations
each day and go to one of the nearby cemeteries and walk through the sections for
soldiers. When I find a grave that has no flowers, I'll leave one and say a prayer for the
family of that person, who for some reason could not bring their soldier flowers. I will pray
for our country and all who serve or have served. For their families, who also serve by
losing precious days, weeks and months spent with their loved ones who are off serving, preserving
peace and the freedom we have in this country. I'll pray for the families who paid the ultimate price,
who's loved ones died, or were taken captive and never returned. I'll pray for anyone who may still be
held in captivity and thinks perhaps they are forgotten. I do NOT forget. -Sylvia Mohr

I would like to thank all the people who sent cards. My mantel looked like Christmas time. Thanks
to Renzo and Donita for helping me with the newsletter. Also, thanks to Charlie Thornton and Ron
Harper who took over tech day and all the other people who helped me.
Time to ride! It's been 6 months, waiting for Doc to give the OK to ride. Getting
TAZ out and checking over the bike. Look over the tires for cracks, check air
pressure, and look for rocks or nails in the tires. Check all the lights, turn signals,
brake lights, etc. Put gas treatment in the tank.

Ride Coordinator Report
Our April Dinner Ride was at Rafferty's in Florence. There were 16 members present and
everyone seemed to have a nice time and enjoyed the food. Since the weather was so nice, a ride was
scheduled also on Saturday before eating at Rafferty’s. We went on the back roads to Falmouth.
Those on the ride were Tom Dierig, Rick Artmayer, Rick Cridlin, John Snyder, Paul Hartke and
Steve Centner.
Our first week for the ice cream ride was rained out. We got to go the next week, and we had 11
motorcycles. It certainly was great getting back to our weekly ice cream ride season. Hope to see
a great turn out for next Wednesday.

Time to Ride!
We have always enjoyed camping. I started camping at a young age. It was a less expensive
way to travel, and my parents, although being far from wealthy, always wanted us to expand our
horizons and see the world. By the time my kids were born, things hadn’t changed all that much, so we
spent a lot of vacation time sleeping in a tent, but we always had a great time! I set a goal when my
kids were very young, to get them to all 48 states before they graduated (leaving Alaska and Hawaii for
them to explore on their own). I wasn’t sure it would happen, but then my wonderful hubby came into
my life, and suddenly anything was possible! The summer before my daughter’s senior year, we
completed our quest with a flight to Seattle to pick up our last two states- Washington & Oregon.
Many of those states were camped in, with our longest stretch of miles being a flight to Los Angeles
(with camping gear as luggage), and a really great ride all the way back to Kentucky in a small pick-up
with just two little drop down seats in the extended cab. Both of the kids were teenagers by then, and
not small, so the traveling was tight, but the sites we saw together made it all worthwhile. Now my
kids have families of their own, and their own adventures. Renzo and I have grown old enough to know
that we no longer want to sleep on the ground, so now we own a wonderful motorcycle camper that
has more amenities than some hotels we’ve stayed at! They’re not all glitz and glamour…LOL. We
once stayed in a place with a paper bath mat (don’t scrunch your nose like that…I told you we were
poor…hehehe). We’ve seen amazing things: mountains (the Appalachians to the Rockies), rivers and
oceans, and lakes so big that you can’t see the other side! We saw thousands of tiny little crabs along
Georgia’s golden coast and star fish the size of dinner plates on the Oregon coast, glaciers and
waterfalls, the great lakes of Michigan and the hot springs and geysers of Yellowstone. Buffalo bigger
than some cars we’ve owned, wild horses running on the beach, and we once watched from our tent
as raccoons pillaged our site for leftovers!
Welcome to May my winger pals! The gateway to a world of whatever
you want it to be! We have all been blessed with an amazing mode of
transportation that will take you anywhere you guide it! The time has come to
get out and ride! You won’t see any of it sitting at home, and life is too short!

TRIP TO LAMBERT’S CAFÉ IN SIKESTON, MO
Hello Everyone!
To those of you who are interested in the trip to Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, MO on June 25 and
returning June 26, we have chosen the Pear Tree Inn as our motel. I have them holding a total of 13
rooms right now, but that can be adjusted as our needs require. We have non-smoking rooms with
two double beds for $99.99 plus taxes and non-smoking king beds for 109.99 plus taxes. ROOM
RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE NO LATER THAN MAY 24. I will be turning in any leftover rooms at that
time.
Pear Tree Inn is a top-notch motel that is owned by the Drury Inns. They have a free hot breakfast in
the mornings and soda and popcorn from 3PM to 10PM every night in the lobby. They also have
limited hot food and cold beverages in the evening from 5:30 to 7:00PM, but we probably won't be
around to enjoy them.

Hysterical Historical Highlights
Congratulations to our members who are celebrating their
May Chapter G anniversaries!
We began this month by honoring our moms … and extending a well-deserved ovation,
For teaching us things like potty training and playing nice, while hiding her frustration.
And she taught us how to ride a shiny new bike … for she knew the joy it would bring.
But she had no idea that one day we’d trade in that bike … for a shiny new Wing!
And now we want to honor our May “G” members … by starting back in the year ‘89,
And you may just be a little surprised at the unexpected blessings we will find.
For that’s when we first met the Centner’s … both Steve and his sweet Babette,
And one year later came our own Bill Boone, who we certainly don’t want to forget.
Then three years later came Ralph Cox … who was followed by Bob and Judy O’Banion,
(And didn’t they make a great choice when choosing their perfect lifelong companion!)
And speaking of couples who are truly in love … whose devotion has been simply heaven,
That reminds us of the Rogers’ … both Mary and Joe … who joined with us in 2007.
But, there are more happy “G” couples who appear to be … on one blissful nonstop date,
Rena and Charlie, Vada and Wayne, Jackie and Chuck … who all joined the “G” in ’08.
And, of course, we can’t forget Mrs. Feldkamp … who we all love and simply call, Robbie,
Who seems that spending time with John on their Wing, is her most favorite hobby.
Now as riding back roads, highways, and byways, here’s one thing you must certainly do,
Stay alert and focused and always look out … for those who aren’t looking for you!
For we all want to remain both healthy and whole … and be more than just simply lucky,
As we enjoy riding in Missouri or Montana, or simply … cruising the roads of Kentucky!
And as I close this month, there’s something important, that I think I need to mention,
Though I don’t want to cause undue alarm, I feel, I should bring this to your attention.
It frequently occurs … may catch you off guard … and cause you to shake and to wiggle,
But don’t be alarmed, it’s simply the sound of our Rena’s, charming and delightful giggle!
