All Tricare Retirees For Life (over 65) have received letters from Tricare saying, they
want us who use Walmart, CVS and other non-base Pharmacies for our medicines to have
them mailed to our home to save Tricare money. The letter indicates there are waivers available for those who the system would not save money, due to fwding and other costs. I called
and asked what they were going to do with us who live in our RVs and travel extensively. After
explaining our situation to the representative, I was given a waiver for our use and a waiver of
the 100% costs you must pay w/o a waiver. So call the Number in the letter, explain your particular circumstances, don't be afraid to ask for a waiver, and enjoy other benefits before it disappears. Larry Sockwell President
Dear SMART friends:
It looks like traveling season has started. Please review the SMART Master calendar for local musters along your route. It is great to experience this great country
with our fellow military brothers & sisters. You are welcome at any chapter's muster-just call the muster master or chapter president for an invite. I hope you are carrying
and passing out SMART recruiting brochures with you as you meet other non-SMART
military travelers--spring & summer are our peak recruiting months. I enjoy sharing
our fun SMART experiences with others. I hope to see many of you at the September National
Muster in Hemet, California. If you haven't signed up yet, please get your registration form in and
join us for a great time. Your Board of Directors (BOD) continues to work on our organization's
main problem--dwindling membership. We need your help! Both sides of the membership equation--recruiting and retention-- are extremely important. We need your ideas and participation to
both keep our current members and gain new. We have a proposed change to our by-laws to allow
our associate members to become Regional Directors--please vote on this proposed change. Many
of our new members who came in under the "two for one national dues if you join a chapter" program are leaving our organization--we need your help at the chapter level to keep them. Your help
in sharing the fun SMART experience with fellow military background RVers you meet on the road
will improve our recruiting. We need to work our way back above 2,000 SMART members. Please
call/e-mail any of your BOD members with your inputs. Please share the information about our super value packed SMART caravans. Our Canadian Maritimes caravan just started and should be in
Halifax, NS, on 1 July at the Tattoo for Canada Day. Our other caravans have a few more spaces
available, but unfortunately some of our planned 2014 caravans had to be cancelled due to lack of
participation. 2015 caravans are in the planning phase and some can be seen on the SMART website. Please sign up early! Our caravans are significantly less cost than comparable commercial caravans and you get to travel with great military minded folks. Terilu & I are staying in our RV at our
AF daughter's house in Clovis, NM, visiting with our AF son-in-law waiting for her to return from Afghanistan in July. We even get a special treat of having our granddaughter visit while we are here.
We will be heading out on the road again at the end of July, working our way to California. We
hope to see many of you on our way to and at the National Muster in California this September. I
wish you all safe and interesting travels as you wander about seeing this great country we defend!
Craig Christen, 1st Vice President

Archives and Records Administration. A docent will lead you on tour of
the Library and Museum where you’ll see the original farm house where in 1913 the
37th President of the United States was born and only a few steps away is his final resting
place. You’ll see “Marine One” a Sea King helicopter, which served Presidents Kennedy,
Johnson, Nixon and Ford while in the Presidential fleet 1961-1976. This tour includes a box

USS MIDWAY CV-41 and “OLD TOWN”: San Diego, CA
A visit to this historic naval aircraft carrier is an essential experience for people of all ages.
Commissioned in 1945, decommissioned in 1992, the Midway is the
Navy’s longest serving carrier of the 20th century. With her 64,000
ton displacement, crew of 4,500 and 4 acre flight deck she was
the largest ship in the world for more than a decade. This impressive
naval museum on San Diego’s embarcadero is a must. Then it’s
off for a short ride to Old Town and San Diego State Park, the birthplace of California. History comes alive here amongst the many original and reconstructed historic buildings. There are many shops and
restaurants among the cultural sites. No visit to Southern California
would be complete without a visit to Old Town for the colors and flavors that are California.
This tour includes a box lunch and a Mexican dinner in Old Town. Must be ambulatory.

One of the highlights of a trip to the Richard Nixon
Presidential Library and Museum is the
chance to step aboard Marine One--the helicopter
used by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and
Ford. Extensively restored and now on permanent display at the library, the helicopter presents visitors with
a rare chance to see how presidents traveled aboard
one of the most storied aircraft ever made.
The helicopter, which seats sixteen and cost a million
dollars to construct in 1960, is a six-ton Sikorsky VH
3A "Sea King" model, bureau number 150617. During
its presidential service, the helicopter was known either as Marine One or Army One, depending on
whether Marine or Army pilots were operating the craft. President Nixon used it on more than 180
trips, including on overseas visits such as his summit meeting with President Anwar Sadat of Egypt
in 1974.
Perhaps his most famous use of the helicopter was his last, on August 9, 1974. On that day, President Nixon resigned and flew in the helicopter from the South Lawn of the White House to Andrews
Air Force Base, where he boarded Air Force One for a flight to his private residence in San Clemente, California.
The helicopter was retired from White House service in 1976 and later used for the training of Secret Service. After being put in storage, the helicopter's interior and exterior were restored, and it
was installed on the grounds of the library in 2006.
The Sikorsky VH 3A "Sea King" helicopter is on loan courtesy of the National Museum of the Marine
Corps.

“BETWEEN LAKE ITASCA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO”
Old Man River, Father of Waters, “body of a nation,” Big Muddy: By any name, the
mighty Mississippi River cuts a mythic figure across the American landscape. Who
hasn’t read Mark Twain or listened to Showboat and not dreamt of a trip down the
Mississippi? Then do what Huck Finn would have done if he’d had a driver’s license: Tag alongside the Mississippi on the Great River Road. Created in 1938
from a network of federal, state, and local roads, the Great River Road—also known
as the River Road, and commonly abbreviated to “GRR”—forms a single route
along the Mississippi from head to toe. Designed to show off the 10 states bordering the Mississippi from its headwaters to its mouth, the GRR is nothing if not scenic, and anyone who equates the Midwest with the flat Kansas prairie will be pleasantly surprised. Sure, farms line the road, but so do upland meadows, cypress
swamps, thick forests, limestone cliffs, and dozens of parks and wildlife refuges. A
full 50 percent longer than the comparable route along the interstates, the GRR
changes direction often, crosses the river whenever it can, dallies in towns every
other road has forgotten, and altogether offers a perfect analog to floating downstream. For those who travel it, the GRR spares you the fleets of hurtling 40-ton
trucks and that Interstate parade of franchised familiarity, and rewards you with
twice the local color, flavor, and wildlife (two- and four-legged) found along any alternate route. Lest these tangibles be taken too much for granted, every so often
the GRR will skip over to a freeway for a stretch to help you sort your preferences.
Savor, and enjoy. We’ll be taking it easy and enjoying the history of the GRR starting in New Orleans and working our way North. There is still more to see of this
splendid country of ours, The One we Defend, so please sign up early as we’re limited to 15 rigs. More Information will be provided as the Northern part of the route
defrosts. Send a deposit of $280.00 along with your application to HQ.

CORPORATE BYLAWS CHANGE TO ALLOW CANADIAN MILITARY VETERANS ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP AND ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
TO BE ELECTED REGIONAL DIRECTORS Your VOTE is requested!
BACKGROUND: During the September 2013 Board of Directors (BOD) Meeting, two proposed changes to the smart Bylaws were
considered. First, a change in the definition of Associate Membership of Canadian Armed Forces as contained in Section 4.03B.
Second, a change to allow Associate members of SMART to be elected as Regional Directors as contained in sections 4.03 and 6.02.
Since these proposed changes constitute a significant change of the Bylaws, a 2/3 affirmative vote of the voting membership is required to approve the change. If approved, the new section of the Bylaws would read as follows: CHANGE 1 4.03B. CANADIAN
ARMED FORCES**: Active, retired and honorably discharged veterans of the Canadian armed forces holding a valid military identification card or other official documentation of service. RATIONALE: Honorably discharged Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces
were overlooked when veterans of the US Armed Forces were approved for membership in SMART. This change will eliminate an
inequity among the services and bring some additional members into SMART. The note referenced by the ** is not changed.
CHANGE 2 4.03. ASSOCIATE MEMBER: Associate members shall have all the rights and privileges of a regular member except they
may have national office holding privileges only at the Regional Director level. They shall have voting privileges unless precluded
elsewhere in these bylaws. 6.02. ELIGIBILITY: Any member of the CLUB with office holding privileges is eligible for nomination and
election to the office of 2nd vice president, unless precluded elsewhere in these bylaws, and starts the progression to president.
The individual must be a member in good standing for three (3) years. To hold the office of regional director the individual must be
a member in good standing for one (1) Year. RATIONALE: This more positively defines Associate member rights and privileges.
The various Regions of SMART experience difficulty finding people to fill Regional Director (RD) positions. Often these positions
either remain unfilled or the current RD stays beyond the 2-year/2-term limit, more out of necessity than willingness. Some have
held the office for as long as 6 years. Additionally, there are Associate Members who by their background and association with the
military and SMART are more than qualified to function as RDs. Finally, this would give our Associate Members a greater stake in
the continued growth and success of SMART. A comment period was provided to all the members of SMART. This DOES NOT
change the eligibility requirement for the office of 2 nd Vice President or the progression to President. The vote on the proposals
will take place using the following methods: (1) PAPER BALLOT (USPS mail to SMART HQ) – Cut out the ballot below, mark your
vote and place the ballot in an envelope with your SMART Member Number and the word “Ballot” printed on the outside of the
envelope. Each member must use a separate ballot. Seal the envelope and place it inside another envelope. Place nothing else in
the envelope. Address the outer envelope to: SMART HQ, 600 University Office Blvd. Suite 1A, Pensacola, FL 32504.
(2) EMAIL BALLOT – A ballot may be submitted by email to smart@smartrving.org. The Subject Line of the Email must read “Ballot
to Change SMART Bylaws”. Then the Email must read: “I vote FOR the change to Section 4.03.B.” OR “I vote AGAINST the change
to Section 4.03B.” AND “I vote FOR the change to Section 4.03 and Section 6.02.” OR “I vote AGAINST the change to Section 4.03
and Section 6.02.” Your SMART Member Number must be included in the email for the ballot to be counted. Each member must
use a separate email to vote. IN PERSON – ballots may be cast at SMART HQ in Pensacola, FL during normal office hours, OR at the
2014 National Muster in Hemet CA.

LIFE
As with a lot of people I try to evaluate my
life. I look at the trinity of life past, present
and future. The Past holds all of our life experiences,
accomplishments, failures, thoughts, memories of
what we have done and who we have met that molded us into who we are today. The present presents us
with the unique opportunity to continue as we have
in the past or reevaluate where we are in life and
make changes to enhance our life. The future will be
a report card on the decisions we have made in the
past and the ones we make in the present. The following list is a quote from Mother Teresa that gives
us thought provoking ideas on how to approach life.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”
With this in mind I would encourage you to laugh
often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent
persons and the affection of children; to earn the respect of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of
false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in
others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit
better condition; to have played and laughed with
enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even
one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
May today be all you need it to be!

CHAPTER AND REGION NEWS
The AR Hogs held their June
Muster at Mountain View, AR. Mountain View is well noted for keeping the
Folk Lore alive and kicking. Music is
played at the Court House Square and
in their music park. People travel from all over to
come, take lessons, join in with groups playing and
enjoy the festivals held during the year. We went to
lunch at the famous Woods Drug
Store, which has and old fashion drink
and ice cream fountain. What a treat
that is and brings ole memories to
mind. A group of about 12 kids came
to the campground and entertained us with their
string instruments with folk lore music. We held our
business meeting and a pot luck lunch, at Glen and
Pat Fosters. Glen and Pat were unable to travel to
Mtn. View, so we took the
meeting and lunch to
them. They were excited to see
everyone and all had a great
visit. We topped our muster off
with attending The Ozark Folk
Center. The music was outstanding. All in all a fun muster.
SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL
MUSTER 2014
South Central Regional Muster 2014 in Foley, AL has come and gone. It was five days
of meeting, greeting and enjoying a great area for a muster. Anchors Aweigh is a terrific venue for this type of activity with shopping, restaurants, and the beach nearby. The park itself is beautifully kept up and the managers did all they could to make us welcome. The Tri-State
Panhandlers & White Sands chapters did a marvelous job under the direction and
watchful eyes of Muster Master Chuck Kuzma. As usual, we played games, both day and
night and during tournaments. We also had seminars on the ever-popular topic of the
infernal computer, Sky Med, Family Assistance, and Helping SMART Survive. The golfers
got their game on. We had a pot luck, two catered meals, and an ice cream social catered by Sky Med. All eight chapters, two at a time,
prepared breakfasts over four days. There was a
craft & yard sale. Many, many, many, door prizes
were awarded as well as many 50/50 pots. The
most important aspect, however, was interacting with SMART members
from throughout the region as well from other regions. We were fortunate to have our National President, Larry Sockwell and wife, Cynthia,
National Chaplain, Larry Shields
and wife Bonnie, from the SE region as well as Past President David Weis and his wife Jackie, president
of the STAR chapter also from the SE region, and Melissa and Phyllis
from HQ. Also, making a guest appearance, was SMARTY Bear. Our
next regional get together is in Rayne, LA hosted by the Cajuns May 1317, 2015. Hope to see you there. Denny Olvany SC Regional Director

There's lots in this "country we defend"
that still needs discovering and sharing !
While enjoying Fathers' Day yesterday, I took a look-see at my email and found something that I'm sharing not only with all our SMART DUFFERS, but also with all our SMART
MEMBERS. Got to thinking that should just half of us share via our SMART E-NEWS AND ETRAVELER the wonderful discoveries we experience out there on the road, all our travels
could take on yet another exciting dimension! So, with that in mind, here through Larry Sockwell's eyes and pencil, is a golf course and a campground, indeed, a town and area, that
might just be "must stop" for many of you. Don Vardell (DUFFERS AND MAGNOLIAS).
I have found your golf course! It is in Bracketville, TX, about 140 miles west of San Antonio. It is located on a massive Civil War Fort called Fort Clark Springs. I am told the entire Fort
property is several miles in all directions from Hwy US 90 - except North. As you know, Hwy 90 runs
from Florida all the way to California. There are two 18-hole courses, and, believe it or not, if you are
staying here, you get to play everyday for FREE. Daily rate is $23 and as a Lifetime Good Sam and
Passport America member, I paid $104 exactly, for seven nights, 50 amp, full hookup, cable and WiFi. Deer, Turkey and Rabbits roam the entire park. If you are here during Deer Season, you can
even go hunting in certain areas. People who live here play golf every day if they wish. There is also a great walking track, lots of paved and unpaved roads to walk, run or crawl. Last night we rode
around close to dark and there is a circle with RV Ports w/ or w/o houses, all the way from a kitchen
outside to full houses with RV garages attached, and of course, room for golf carts, boats, and motorcycles. I have seen Golf Carts downtown w/no license plate. Very laid back place. Downtown includes County Courthouse, Hardware Store, Grocery Store, Border Patrol, several restaurants, a
Subway and a Dollar General - your typical small Texas Town - est. pop around 4,000. Now the
good part. I mentioned it was a Civil War Fort started in 1852 for Horse Soldier Training. Closed in
1944, sat vacant for many years. Somehow the city bought the fort; sold most of the Base Housing
to individuals. Many have been refurbished at least once, and several are currently available. When
we are 90, might think about it. Seems to have it all. [If you are not aware, the military has contracted out base
housing and management. Many bases around the country now rent to anyone, whether retired, HDV, or civilian. Check out on the
internet Balfour Beatty Communities who manage housing at the NCBC Gulfport, MS and Forest City Military Communities who manage housing at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. Don].
Not sure when the RV Park came in existence, but mostly filled today with Pipeline workers
or people who support oil or windmills. Last night before our ride around, neighbor next door
spread Deer Corn about 35 feet in front of our two RVs and we sat at a table between our rigs and
watched nine deer (all Does) come within about twenty feet of us. They are not afraid but are very
inquisitive of us. I met a Military Retiree today who says he feeds a large buck in his front yard every
night just before dusk and invited us down tonight. www.fortclark.com gives you a lot more information. The reason we came here from San Antonio was there was a replica of the Alamo built in
the sixties in order to film the movie Alamo w/ John Wayne and I had been to it before. Put this one
on your list when you head to California, Larry. Don Vardell, President, MS Magnolias Be

The May Tristate
Rebels
muster happened and was another
Muster for the record books. It sure
was good to see all of the members
that were there. All that were unable
to attend were truly missed. We had
17 rigs and 36 members present. We
had one of oldest members, Walt and Ester Machowski
and our new member Wally and Susan Turner with
us. As well as two couples that were guests that joined
our Chapter before we departed. Our new members are
Les and Ann Paulk from NC and Joe Hilton and Elaine Rainey from Fla. Most of us were there
by Friday. The weather was just great and the beginning summer. We all got up early Saturday and went to St. Mary for the train ride (picture). We had a great time and enjoyed the
program presented by the Railroad and the Veterans of our Armed Forces (picture). After the train
ride, some folks toured the events down town St. Mary including the Submarine Museum, and Antique Shops. We had two new hosts for the Muster, Keith and Coleen Hardman and Dave and Martha Garvin. Even though it was their first time, they did a wonderful job and if they needed any help
others stepped up and helped in the Tri-State-Rebel way. Thanks to all and I don't think there was
anyone that did not get enough food or have a great time. We
did all of our usual things, like happy hours and eating together, playing holey board and games, sightseeing and shopping. We went out to Lunch at one of the local eateries and

FLORIDA SUNSHINE
PROUD PARENTS:
USS Ross Reporting For Duty At
Naval Station Rota
Cmdr. Tadd Gorman, Navy Live
Blog, June 17
Being the son of a Navy Sailor,
(son of Jim and Bonnie Gorman SMART
#12959) I learned early in life that a ship is only
fully operational when her Sailors are sharp and
ready. The crew of USS Ross (DDG 71) has been
putting in long hours as we prepare to become a part
of the U.S. Forward-Deployed Naval Force (FDNF) in
Rota, Spain. Ross has undergone countless inspections and complex ballistic missile defense (BMD)
upgrades to ensure we have the tools, the knowledge
and the people required to complete all possible missions. Now that we have transferred into an operational
theater as part of 6th Fleet, our capabilities as a multimission warship may be tested at any moment. We may be
called upon at any time. We will be ready. Preparing For
Rota Ross prepared two ways for deployment: operationally and educationally. For several years, the ship’s crew
worked to make sure that we are able to perform our mission under any circumstance. We prepared for INSURV
multiple times in Norfolk before finally having the opportunity to complete the process, which we passed with flying
colors. Ross performed extraordinarily during our recent
independent deplorer certification exercise and successfully participated in the Joint Warrior exercise in April. During
those exercises, we engaged in anti-submarine warfare
missions, air and ballistic missile defense exercises, naval
surface fire support at Cape Wrath, Scotland, electronic
warfare exercises, and various simulated small boat attacks. In addition to ensuring Ross could perform at
peak efficiency, we also started preparing as a crew
and as individuals to live in a new country and encounter a new culture. That’s where the education
came in. The Navy has provided a series of lessons
and resources to help our Sailors understand the culture of Spain and prepare for life in Rota. This has
included bringing aboard instructors from Navy Information Operations Command Maryland with regionspecific expertise, and hosting Naval Station
(NAVSTA) Rota employees who have taught the
crew. These classes have ranged from the broad –
the importance of recognizing and appreciating cultural differences – to the extraordinarily specific –
how to obtain a driver’s license in Rota. These educa-
lifestyle change as smooth as possible. Operating Forward (with Help) We are arriving in Rota with just weeks to
settle in before we head out for our first patrol. There is a
palpable level of excitement among the crew about the
opportunity to live and work in a new country, particularly
one with as
rich a culture and history as Spain. But
moving to a new port and a new country is not a simple
endeavor. This whole process would have been far
more challenging if not for the unfailing support of
NAVSTA Rota. NAVSTA Rota’s staff is tirelessly
working to expand its services to meet the needs of
the more than 1,200 Sailors and 1,600 family members expected to join the U.S. community in Rota by
2015. In addition to sending employees to Norfolk and
Ross to help with advance preparation, NAVSTA Rota has
also provided each family with a local sponsor family, offered an extensive host nation familiarization program, and
is currently working with our Sailors to arrange local housing as quickly as possible. We owe NAVSTA Rota a debt
of gratitude, and are happy to know that we are joining a
supportive Navy family in Rota. Expectations for the First
Patrol Everything Ross has done over the last few years is
building up to our first patrol from Rota, where we will help
show the American flag around the region. Our strategic
presence in Rota allows the Navy to maximize options
across a broad range of missions in the Mediterranean and
Atlantic. Operating out of Rota is the most efficient way to
support NATO and U.S. missions and priorities. Today,
ballistic missile defense (BMD) is one of the premier missions for Navy guided-missile destroyers. Our Aegis BMD
system provides scalability, flexibility and mobility for defense against known and emerging threats. Yet we will be
called upon to do much more than missile defense during
our time in Rota, including participating in the Standing
NATO Maritime Groups, as well as joining in naval exercises, port visits and maritime security cooperation activities.
Our first patrol is an ideal opportunity for the crew to grow
closer and more tight-knit. Though I previously served as
the Ross executive officer, many of my shipmates joined
Ross for the first time this year and may not know her full
capabilities. They also don’t fully know each other. Morale
is already high due to the opportunity to serve in a highprofile role and living in a country as rich in culture and history as Spain. But true, enduring morale that knits this crew
together will only develop when we are forced to come together as a team to overcome our first major operational
challenges on deployment. Given the environment we will
be operating in, I foresee many challenges ahead.
Setting Sail No matter what challenges are thrown at
Ross and her crew, we know what the Navy expects
of us. We must constantly be at the highest state of
readiness as we operate forward. We must pursue
relentless excellence. And we must constantly strive
to improve. If we maintain a steady course following
those sailing directions, Ross will honorably serve her
country. Cmdr. Tadd Gorman is Commanding Officer, USS Ross. (DDG 71)

SMART Cajuns Ya’ll Come ~ Past and Present …
Over a decade ago, SMART Cajuns Francis and Lynette Arceneaux decided that there was too
big a time lapse between the last muster of the year and the first muster of the following year. So
they decided to hold a Ya’ll Come … not an official muster, but just put the word out that it was being
held,…. And Ya’ll Come! This was in April when crawfish were in season, so of course a crawfish
boil was the main fare. This gathering was such a success that it was repeated for years afterward.
Then the year came when there were not enough regular Musters scheduled, so the Arceneauxs
were asked if the Ya’ll Come could become a regular Muster; they agreed … and the rest is history.
April 2014 brought another successful Ya’ll Come, with some 100 members and guests attending.
Many activities were enjoyed, including the crawfish boil, cracklin’ cooking, catfish frying, golf tournament, games, and lots of good eating.
The fun aside, some serious issues took over the Ya’ll Come agenda:

The Cajuns Select Fisher House Foundation for Charity Cause …
The committee appointed to research various charities and report to
the Cajuns, recommended The Fisher House Foundation after much information
was studied. The committee, headed by Lois Maurer, included Doug Barksdale
and Jim McCurry. The Fisher House Foundation matches funds raised by local
volunteers, and builds “comfort homes” for families of service men and women who
are undergoing treatment and hospitalization. The homes are suites to accommodate many military families so that they can be close to a loved one suffering a
combat wound or illness. The Muster Host will decide the activity to raise funds to
support this charity; possibly 50/50, craft sales or silent auctions, among many others.

Golden Gate Chapter Visits Lake Tahoe
The Golden Gate Chapter June Muster was held on the shores of the
beautiful Lake Tahoe. The weather was wonderful, we had 12 rigs
parked in the pines of the South Lake Tahoe Camp Ground by the
Lake. A great big thanks goes out to our hosts were Frank & Mariko
Vilimek and Lou & Elane Simmins! We had dinner on your own after
happy hour on Monday, it gave members to try some of the quint
small restaurants in the area, pot luck on Tuesday, pancakes and sausages Wednesday morning prepared by
Steve Thornberg & Rich Thompson, the famous Lou burgers for dinner, Tom & Bob's Biscuits & Gravy with
eggs Thursday morning and Lou's pork loins for dinner, Friday was
eggs and sausage for breakfast and cook your own meat for dinner and fruit turn-over for Saturday morning before heading
home. We had a fire every evening where we could unwind and
share the days activities. During the days people explored the area, thrift shops, quilt shops, shopping, and a trip over to the Minden airport to see the War Bird planes that we visiting for the day
and Tom & Sue Wentz went
to the Sea Food Buffet on the
th
18 floor of Harrah's casino to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary.
Then there were some that just sat and soaked in the beauty of the lake
and mountains. We welcomed two new chapter members, Bob &
Marge Precourt from Nevada City and Tom Wise from Reno. It was really good the have the Esparza's join us. We were saddened at the passing of Mary Allan and dedicated our Muster to her memory. Our next
muster will be at Duck Island on 10 to 15 August hosted by the Abel's and Wentz's. See you there!!!!!

FAMCAMPS:
Military RV, Camping & Outdoor Recreation, that’s a positive thought, is it not. One of
the best opportunities that we have as we travel across these beautiful states in the USA,
are the campgrounds that are available for us as military personnel. There are 262 listed
of those in the United States available for us to use, growing all the time. The FAMCAMPS book is a very productive listing of all the FAMCAMPS throughout the USA that
are available for us to use including the, all branches of the military which includes Alaska
and Hawaii.
Suggestion goes to the nearest Base Exchange or Naval Air Station and gets the latest
copy of the FAMCAMPS. It will give you the telephone numbers to call, the directions to take to get there and
the amenities they have or that are available to each for each FAMCAMP. It will also give you the directions to
get to the nearest base facilities if there are any.
By the way the United States Air Force has a program still available to get you free nights, called U.S.A.F. frequent camper. By bringing in your log book they will sign off and get you a cheaper rate for nights staying at
the USAF FAMCAMPS. I just used it at Patrick AFB in Florida which is right on base, full access to the BX, as
well as the commissary, thus allowing you to use and see the sights that are accessible to all base personnel.
The military operates more than 260 of these FAMCAMPS around the world. If you have questions about the
FAMCAMP program contact myself Paul Proctor National Military Parks Coordinator at 817-239-0171, or
email pauleproctor@msn.com.

I Larry D. Shields SMART
member # 13213 do here
by apply and accept the
nomination for the position
of South East Regional
Director. I hereby agree to
accept to meet all the required responsibilities if
elected. I have read National Bylaws Section 6.11 regarding compensation. By affixing my name above I certify that I accept the responsibility for the position if elected and will serve that position
to the best of my ability. I would like to submit my resume for consideration. Summary
of positions held in SMART: I am currently
serving in the appointed position of National
Chaplain. I am a member of the Florida
Roadrunners and currently it’s President. I
am currently a member of the Chattahoochee
Drifters, Florida Buccaneers, Florida Sunshine and the Duffers chapters. Reasons for
wanting to serve on the South East board: I
recognize that SMART is a great organization. It provides a network for likeminded
people, with a military background, to continue the fellowship of military life. With the
graying of the organization I see the need for
members with the abilities to get involved to
insure that the organization is a viable operating entity for the next generation. Can I
make a difference? I think so, and so do
some of my peers who have encouraged me
to run for the position of South East Director.
