First Lady Supriya Jindal Visits ISL
The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children announced their donation of interactive white boards on Thursday, February 16, 2012. ISL was one of the 85 schools selected statewide to receive the interactive boards. Mrs. Jindal’s foundation seeks
to aid Louisiana’s children in all aspects of education. Emphasizing on mathematics and the sciences, Mrs. Jindal’s foundation
provides teachers with new tools that foster an innovative and enriching learning environment. This generous donation will make
a lasting difference in our classrooms.
If the school does not receive your Intent to Return Form, your child will lose his/her place at ISL for the 2012-13
school year. If you did not receive a form via US Postal mail, please e-mail mmarascalco@isl-edu.org to request
another copy.

Annual Fund
ISL's 2011-12 Annual Fund Campaign is entering the
home stretch. Our goal this year is to have 100% family
participation. Your contribution to the International
School of Louisiana’s Annual Fund is, in many ways, the
most valuable gift we receive. It provides essential
support for the year's operating expenses and makes an
immediate and tangible difference to our students. The
ISL Community would like to take this opportunity
to thank you, and to let you know that through your
support, the lives of our ISL Students have been so
very positively impacted by your generosity.

This February, ISL was bustling with noteworthy visitors: The French Attaché for Educational Affairs,
Jean-Claude Duthion, visited ISL to get a first-hand
look of our French Immersion program. Mr. Duthion
stated that ISL “mirrors programs worthy of note by
the French Ministry of Education.” On February 16th
Louisiana’s own First Lady, Supriya Jindal, announced the installation of interactive whiteboards
donated to the school by her foundation, The Supriya
Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children. Mrs.
Jindal then taught a sample lesson to first and second

grade students.
ISL-Jefferson Parish is opening August 2012 and we are currently accepting applications for next year. ISL-JP will open with kindergarten through 7th grade. We are hoping to start with 340 students and grow to about 540 students through 8th grade shortly thereafter. The school will offer French and Spanish immersion and include cultural
enrichment classes. The school’s leaders will be announced March 7, 2012.
Each month the Board of Trustees hosts several committee meetings and at least one
general Board meeting. The committee meetings are Governance, Finance, Strategic
Planning and Nominating. These meetings are held to assist in guiding the direction of
each school as well as the overall organization. I encourage everyone to make at least
2 meetings a year and follow the proceedings through the minutes posted to ISL’s
website.
The Administration has proposed expedited growth of the Olivier Street Campus by
adding three additional classes in second and third grades for the 2012-13 school year.
This growth will assist the school in acquiring student services (nursing, library, counseling, and speech therapy) and simultaneously minimize the per student operational
cost. We are looking forward to including more students in the ISL learning experience.
March brings the first round of state testing for ISL students. Our students are aptly
prepared to meet and exceed the requirements set forth by the state. We anticipate that
results will continue to show growth over the past year. The Academic Team’s use of
interim assessments has helped to target student learning so that all are prepared to do
well.
Sincerely,
Sean Wilson, CEO/Head of School
