Where has the time gone? It seems only a short while ago I attended my first Newcomers Coffee when a few
delightful people introduced themselves to me and quickly told me about all the wonderful activities and events
the Club offered. I of course joined right away and I never looked back! That first encounter was in the Spring of
2012, my husband and I had recently moved to Park City from Texas and we were looking for ways to meet new
friends and become more involved in our new community - through Newcomers we found the perfect way to do
both.
The story of how I came to join Newcomers is not unique but the Newcomers Club has been a unique and
wonderful experience for me. I was struck by how so many people gave so unselfishly of their time and talent to
put together a monthly calendar full of events and activities, continually providing members with opportunities
to build new friendships, maybe learn a new skill, or find a new place to volunteer and get to know the Park
City community better. Through the Club I have met many terrific and interesting people; I am grateful for the
kindness that was shown to me from day one and especially for the friendships that were built along the way.
It has been a privilege to be part of the Leadership of the Club for the past several years. I was encouraged to
take on the 1st VP position along with Lisa Hunter and together we enjoyed organizing the monthly 1st VP events
and especially being an integral part of the planning for the Club’s signature event, our annual Membership
Luncheon. To serve as your Co-President for the past two terms has been a very gratifying experience and I am so thankful to ALL who
served with me on the Board. Thanks for all your support, hard work and for having a “can-do” attitude with every task at hand. I appreciate
your spirit of cooperation and innovation and the dedication you show to your positions in the Club is remarkable.
A sincere and deeply heartfelt thank you goes to my two Co-Presidents, Marlene Peacock and Anna Lea Kantor. It has been a pleasure
serving with you both; you taught me a lot, I am proud of how the Club has evolved and grown during our time together and I am especially
pleased with how we have strengthened our partnerships throughout the community. In addition, I extend a special thank you to a number
of Past Presidents of the Club; your council and guidance has been invaluable and I am so very grateful for all your support. I encourage
everyone to consider stepping up to volunteer in the Club! I am excited to take on the new challenge as Chair of Advertising and Publicity,
and my very best wishes go to our new incoming Co-Presidents, Anna Lea Kantor and Karen Caldwell. I am confident that you, along with
the new Board, will continue to successfully grow the Newcomers Club and make it an even better organization in the years ahead.

Kerri joined Fox News in 1994 and is a frequently sought after motivational speaker whose warmth and down-to-earth style make her a
favorite with audiences. She covered the 2002 Winter Olympics and has received the Milestone Award for her 20 years of dedicated service
to KSTU. In 2011 Kerry suffered serious injuries in a bike accident in Salt Lake City and her presentation at the Coffee will center around
her struggles recovering from her injuries and the perseverance it took to get through it all. In addition, she will talk about her climb of Mt.
Kilimanjaro.
Please join us after the Coffee for lunch at Good Karma Restaurant on 1782 Prospector Avenue in Park City. Good Karma is a locals favorite
offering unique lunch specials with an Indian/Persian flair. There is ample, free parking.

We’ve all watched with fascination as a film studio was being built at Quinn’s Junction. Now we have the opportunity to see
all that has been constructed and to hear about future plans. The studio is the largest multi-use facility in the state of Utah.
There are three full service sound stages encompassing 45,000 square feet plus another 24,000 square feel of office space.
The facility is designed and equipped to use cutting edge digital technology. It can accommodate productions of various sizes--indepedent feature films, television series, workshops for film professionals and special events. Tour limited to 20 guests,
so reserve early!
Following our tour, we will have lunch at Ganesh Indian Cuisine. Ganesh is one of Park City’s newest restaurants and is getting great reviews. They are located at 1811 Sidewinder Drive, Suite #102, Park City. This is in Prospector with easy parking.

Hiking
Enjoy our beautiful mountains and trails, get some exercise, and meet new people. We gather in the
morning and carpool to the trailhead. Our hikes are generally 2-3 hours long.

Social Singles
This is a fun group of local singles! The goal is to
get together monthly for a variety of activities;
plans include dinners at local restaurants, concerts, lectures, Operas at the movie theater and

Sunday evening, June 19th, is a full moon that will rise
about 8:15 pm -- almost an hour before sunset at 9:00 pm.
This means we can see the moon in the sky while it is light
enough to see detail in the landscape, which is an ideal
situation for getting interesting moonrise shots. The moon
will be rising in the southeast, over Synderville Basin as seen
from Kimball Junction, and perhaps over McPolin farm.
So, we will meet at Starbucks in Kimball Junction at 7:00 pm,
share ideas on the best photo locations, then head out to
SHOOT THE MOON. Bring telephoto lenses, the longer the
better, and a tripod. There will also be equipment to share.
And, there might be a chill to the evening.

Come join a fun night of sipping and evaluating wine while
socializing in a casual environment. This month we will be
having Shiraz and Chardonnay. Attendees should bring either
2 bottles of the same Shiraz or 2 bottles of the same Chardonnay (one bottle for tasting and the other a gift for the hostess),
and a small tasting appetizer to share such as: cheese/dip,
crackers or fruit. Cost of the bottle of wine should be between
$10.00 - $20.00.
Please bring one bottle of your wine with your name and the
price of the wine written on the label of the wine bottle in a
brown wine paper bag (the wine store will give you the bag at
purchase). As guests mingle and sip, you will judge each wine
and tally your wine scores on a ballot sheet. Towards the end
of the evening the host/hostess will tally the participant’s wine
scores and reveal which wine the group liked the best.

Supper Club is held once a month in a member’s home.
It is a fabulous time to meet new friends and everyone is
welcome, singles and couples alike. The Hostess decides
on a theme, cleans the house (or not), provides dishes,
utensils, and non-alcoholic beverages, opens the door, and
the party begins! Please contact the Hostess for your food
assignment. Once you have RSVP’ed, please let the Hostess
know immediately if your plans change and you are no
longer able to attend so they can insure a balanced menu.
Please bring your own beverage (BYOB) along with your
dish.
Please keep in mind the following Supper Club Etiquette and rules:
»» Bring your assigned dish. If you cannot bring that dish,
advise the Hostess as soon as possible for a new food assignment.
»» Bring a dish that serves 10 to 12 people.
»» If you RSVP and then cannot attend, notify the Hostess at
least 48 hours before the event.
»» f you need to cancel the day of the event, contact the
Hostess and let her know.
»» If you can, make arrangements to have your dish
delivered to the Hostess.
»» Be respectful of the home of the Hostess. If you spill or
damage something, tell the Hostess immediately.
»» BYOB – this means that you bring your own beverage and
do not expect to “share” other people’s beverages.

The Garden Club will be held on Thursday, June 16th in the
garden of Sisel Castelli. In addition to touring Sisel’s garden,
Hillary Jessup will report to us on what she learned at Plant
Con 2016 to be held June 11 at the Conservation Park in West
Jordan.
We will also have our annual perennial swap on June 16.
This is a great way to share the abundance in our gardens.
Everyone should come with a nice size labeled perennial in a
pot. If you haven’t already dug up and potted your perennial
please do it NOW so that it becomes acclimated to the pot
and doesn’t look half dead! If you don’t have perennials that
you can split, you can also purchase a perennial to bring to
the swap or better yet ask a friend with an established garden
to dig something in her garden. We want to share perennials
that we know will grow in Park City!
Bring a sandwich and Sissel will provide beverages.

Dennis Romankowski, sommelier, vintner, and owner will take
us on a tour of his wine facility and then lead us in tasting his
craft wines featuring select grapes from the Napa Valley.
We are very fortunate to be able to visit our local Park City
winery. Cognition wines are served at many of our fine Park
City restaurants including, Riverhorse, Glitretind, Montage,
Zoom, and High West. Labels feature local PC landmarks.
And the wines are delicious! We look forward to seeing you
on the 16th of June. Carpooling is encouraged!

Yoga will continue through the spring and summer on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 11:30 am -12:30 pm. We have
added a Thursday class by popular demand. Classes will
continue to cover the foundational poses of yoga as well as
some very simple breathing and a some introduction to meditation. It is designed to give everyone a taste of yoga and all
it’s benefits. Yoga helps bring the body, mind and heart into
balance so that with practice you can find a calm and steady
presence in all of your endeavors on and off the mat. All are
welcome all ages and abilities. The class is a fun introduction
to an age-old tradition. Tuesday classes will be taught by Pattie Bittel and Thursday classes by Edie Kilchenstein. Kristen
Mitchell will also be on hand to help as well.

Shooting Group
The Newcomers Shooting Group met on 17 May
at the Park City Gun Club. This was a “what would
you do” session where we talked thru several crisis
scenarios, and examined how we would/should react to them
(and no, firearms are NOT the best solution to any of them). All
of the scenarios are situations that could occur in locations that
all of us frequent: the food court at the mall, a parking garage or
parking lot, the bank (does anyone go into them anymore?), the
airport check-in area, hiking trails where visibility is quite limited,
etc. Did we go into a situation where the hair on the back of our
necks stood up, are we alone or with loved ones, is there an exit
readily available, is there some place readily available to hide, are
you sure that law enforcement is not already on scene, etc? When
TSHTF, our brains will not “think thru” the situation; we’ll either
freeze, panic, or revert to actions that our brains have already
thought out in calmer settings.

A fun dice game that requires no skill!!!! Bunko includes rolling dice, rotating partners for lots of socializing, snacks and
wine. A great evening that usually lasts about 2 1⁄2 hours.
Bunko will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at
6:30 pm.

June’s activity, mid-month date TBD, will be a refresher for those
who are interesting in learning gun safety and shooting, but
where it’s been a LONG time (maybe never?) since you’ve been
shooting. If you’re uncomfortable being around firearms and
want to examine that feeling, safely, this session is also for you. If
you have firearms in your home, but don’t know safety rules and
gun handling basics, and kids or grandkids ever visit your home,
this session is definitely for you. You’ll need absolutely nothing
for this session, except a couple hours of your time. Cost is zero.
Small caliber guns, ammunition, targets and a certified instructor
will be provided.

FRIENDS OF THE PARK CITY LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP
It is time to renew your membership or become a new member of Friends of the Park City
Library. FOL is non-profit organization that plans and does fund raising and other events to
benefit our local Library. All membership fees and fund raising proceeds go directly to enhancing
the collections and fund projects for the Library.
Friends of the Park City Library also provide volunteer opportunities.
Membership forms are available at the Park City Library at 1255 Park Ave, Park City. For additional information
