From Pickering in the west to Whitby in the east, this picturesque trail is completely paved and beautifully landscaped with many breathtaking vistas that can be enjoyed from numerous rest areas and community spaces. Duffins Creek Trail - SOUTH This section begins at the Waterfront Trail in Rotary Park and travels north along the eastern edge of Duffins Marsh. There are many lookouts to view the marsh birds and wildlife. Most of the trail is limestone screenings. The trail meets the paved off-road trail running west on the south side of Bayly to Church Street. Duffins Creek Trail - NORTH The Duffins Creek Trail north section runs from Mill Street to Birchmount Road and has several scenic bridge crossings and points of interest. You enter the north section west off Church Street at Mill Street. This area is a favourite of Trout fishermen who you may see fishing along the creek. The trail passes under Kingston Road and then heads westward over a long pedestrian bridge spanning Duffins Creek. After a final bridge crossing the trail ends south of Rossland Road. Carruthers Creek Trail This narrow paved off-road trail runs through a forested and residential area on the west side of Shoal Point Road between Callander Court and Bayly Street. At Bayly Street, the trail runs west along the south side of Bayly to Salem Road. Millers Creek Trail The Millers Creek Trail begins just north of Hwy. 401 and connects many neighbourhoods. The trail meanders through open parkland in the centre of Ajax, and passes the McLean Community Centre (MCC) as it winds its way north. The trail north of the MCC has few hills, which makes for easy walking, jogging, cycling and in-line skating. It ends at Taunton Road near Harwood Avenue where it joins the Taunton Road Trail. Greenwood Conservation Area Trails Progressive Accountable Trail Guide and map proudly produced by the Ajax Trails Committee. Community-Focused Eco-Conscious 80 kilometres and counting The Ajax trail system is the envy of many municipalities. With more than 80 kilometres of trail to explore, the Town is quickly becoming the trail capital of Durham Region. And, there are plans for more. The Town will invest close to $5 million in additional infrastructure over the next four years (2010 to 2013), increasing our total trail infrastructure to close to 105 kilometres. North of Taunton Road, between Westney Road and Church Street lies Greenwood Conservation Area with its many natural trails. As you explore the trails you will enjoy the sounds of many birds and the gurgling of Duffins Creek as it rushes on its way to Lake Ontario. As well as the many scenic lookout vistas, Greenwood offers a number of historical sites. There is no cycling on the Conservation Area Trails. An eco-enthusiasts’ dream, the Town’s trail system is surrounded by rich natural settings, including four greenway spines (Duffins Creek, Millers Creek, Carruthers Creek and Lake Ontario), and integrates key green infrastructure such as the Town’s undeveloped waterfront and Greenwood Conservation Area. Ajax Greenbelt Trail To complement the trail system, the Town is introducing bike lanes to its system. The bike lanes will provide additional transportation routes to major destinations such as the Ajax GO Station. This bike lane network is the first of its kind in the Durham Region. The Greenbelt Trail travels through well-established neighbourhoods and is shaded by many beautiful old growth trees. It connects to the Waterfront Trail and to Harwood Avenue, and provides access to the Ajax-Pickering Hospital, the Ajax Community Centre and Downtown Ajax. Duffins Bay Greenbelt Trail This newly-restored community trail system connects streets in the Duffins Bay neighbourhood, and also provides easy access to schools and shopping. It has connections to both the Waterfront Trail and the Duffins South Trail. Achilles Trail Runs west in a parkland from Salem Road to Ajax Town Hall and the Memorial Outdoor Pool. w w w. a j a x - n a t u r a l l y. c o m Ajax’s Trail System: For more information about the Town’s trail system, visit www.ajax-naturally.com Why Ajax trails are number one? • Multi-Use • Inter-linked with multiple entry points • Close to Town Facilities and bike parking • Accessible • Most trails open year round • Majority equipped with lighting • Ongoing trail surveillance Ajax Trail System Trail permitted activity Walking, running, cycling, hiking, roller blading, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, bird watching and wildlife viewing.
