“Colour is the most obvious and fundamental
element of my work. I continue to be fascinated
by the land, building up and obliterating different
layers of colour echoing the layering and breaking
down of geological and agricultural history. Still
life
paintings
are
preoccupied
with
the
relationship of one area of colour and texture to
another and the line, or lack of it, which forms the
boundary between them. Fields, buildings, boats, flowers and fabrics are
becoming of ever greater importance as the means of organising and
expressing these aspirations.” CB.

Caroline Bailey's first solo show was held ten years ago here in
Broadway. It was to huge acclaim and, from that time on, Caroline has
achieved considerable success both here and with other leading
galleries around the country. We feel privileged to have seen her work
develop from those early days – Caroline is, and always has been,
passionate about painting and has approached her craft with the
utmost professionalism. She is a true colourist, and is thoroughly
deserving of the recognition and awards that she has received to date.
These include the NS Macfarlane Charitable Trust Award at the Royal
Scottish Academy (1999), the Glasgow Arts Club Fellowship at the
Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (1999), and the
Scottish Arts Club Award at the RSW (2001). She was elected a
member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours in
1998, and has also exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute, the Royal
Institute of Painters in Watercolours and the Royal Watercolour Society.
Included in the exhibition are 35 new paintings in
water-based mixed media, ranging in price from
£550 to £2,000. Those illustrated here are for sale on
receipt of this catalogue; they and other works may be
viewed on our website at www.john-noott.com from
We do hope you are able to join us to celebrate Caroline's 10th
Anniversary Exhibition.
