Americana Makeover
Like baseball and apple pie, this Pennsylvania abode is
tried-and-true in its nod to the red, white and blue.
So when they decided to redo their kitchen, the
homeowners wanted the room to reflect that same
Americana style. They also wanted an agile assemblage
that would facilitate frequent entertaining . One of the
nation’s foremost architects, the client also requested an
uncommon kitchen that would mesh with the overarching
vernacular while spotlighting a painstaking consideration
to design and construction. As such, they brought on
award-winning renovation firm Gardner/Fox to provide
design and construction services.
At once warm and elegant, the room is evocative of
traditional Williamsburg—with an emphatic twist.
Natural American cherry is a classic counterpoint to
the distressed black painted cabinets. Molding and stars
accent the radiused beaded-inset cabinetry for a singular
impression. An oversized island pulls double duty as an
entertainment station and the crowning centerpiece for
holiday soirées. French doors open up against each other
for fluid traffic flow from inside to out. Fully integrated,
the refrigeration units emulate the warmth of antique
furniture as the primary influence throughout this
radiant room—an all-American redux that’s truly ahead
