Commuter System
Gautrain Rapid Rail Link
Bombardier Transportation, as a member
of the Bombela Consortium, provided
the impressive 80 km rapid rail transit system
that connects Johannesburg, Tshwane
(Pretoria) and the OR Tambo
International Airport in South Africa.
In a contract awarded in 2006, Bombardier was
Gautrain Rapid Rail Link station platform
responsible for the design and supply of the core
electrical and mechanical systems, including a fleet of
vehicles, of which most underwent final assembly in
96 BOMBARDIER* ELECTROSTAR* vehicles, and is now
South Africa, were designed for commuter operation
providing 15 years of maintenance services.
and are capable of speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The commuter system features the BOMBARDIER*
The project was a Public Private Partnership, consisting
CITYFLO* 250 train control technology, well proven on
of financing, designing, building and operations and
transportation systems in Europe. The ELECTROSTAR
