GEOFFREY ATHERDEN – Playwright
Geoffrey Atherden is best known for his multi award winning
television series MOTHER AND SON and GRASS ROOTS. His
other television credits include EGGSHELLS and ONE DAY
MILLER, both award winning situation comedy series and
BABAKIUERIA, which received a United Nations Media Peace
Award. His writing career began with Architecture Reviews
when he was a student. His play, HOTSPUR, had successful
seasons in Melbourne (MTC) and Sydney (STC) in 1993. In 1997,
he rewrote his MOTHER AND SON series for the BBC. Retitled
as KEPPING MUM, the series was produced and broadcast
in 1997 and a second series in 1998. Other productions from
translations of his original scripts include MADRÉ Y HIJO (Chile
1995), MAMAN, CHERIE (Quebec 1998), GLÖEM INTE MAMMA!
(Sweden 1998), PAS PÅ MOR (Denmark 1998) and YENTE ANNE
(Turkey 2002). A further production has also been completed in Greece. STEPFATHER OF THE BRIDE, a telemovie broadcast
on ABC television in 2006 was awarded a Silver Plaque in the
2007 HUGO awards in Chicago. Geoffrey was President of
The Australian Writers’ Guild from 1994 to 1998, is currently a
Board Member of Screen NSW and is President of the Australian
Writers’ Foundation. In 2009 he was made a Member of the
Order of Australia. In 2009 he was made a Member of the Order
of Australia.
MARK KILMURRY – Director
Mark’s Ensemble directing credits include CASANOVA, LAST OF THE RED HOT
LOVERS, MURDERERS, ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER, AND THE COW JUMPED
OVER THE MOON (also writer), ABIGAIL’S PARTY, LITTLE NELL, TUESDAYS
WITH MORRIE, MARY STUART, YOU TALKIN’ TO ME? DIARY OF AN OLYMPIC
CABBIE (also adaptor), THE BUSY WORLD IS HUSHED, HALPERN & JOHNSON,
DERRIDA IN LOVE, THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG, HAMLET, THE RETREAT
FROM MOSCOW (Ensemble Theatre); KING LEAR, HAMLET (Studio Company/
Riverside Theatre); THE LOVER (Belvoir Street Theatre) and HAMMERKLAVIER
(SBW Stables Theatre). Mark is the recipient of two Norman Kessell Memorial
Awards for an Outstanding Performance by an Actor for his roles
in HAMLET and JAPES and was awarded with the 2006 Hayes Gordon
Memorial Award for Important Contribution to Theatre. Mark is currently
Artistic Director at the Ensemble Theatre.
MICHELLE DOAKE – Alex
Since graduating from NIDA Michelle has appeared in JAPES and David
Williamson’s BIRTHRIGHTS for Ensemble Theatre; ARCADIA, DEAD WHITE
MALES, THE WHARF REVIEW and THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISSOCIA for
Sydney Theatre Company; A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC for MTC; THE WINTER’S
TALE, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, MEASURE FOR MEASURE, THE
MERCHANT OF VENICE and MACBETH for Bell Shakespeare; MRS WARREN’S
PROFESSION, THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO, SEPARATION, TALKING
HEADS, LATER THAN SPRING, PEGGY FOR YOU, LABOR DAY, GOD ONLY
KNOWS and CRIMES OF THE HEART for Marian Street Theatre; STORIES FROM
SUBURBAN ROAD and THE CORPORAL’S WIFE for Perth Theatre Company;

MEDIA WATCH. She has recorded voices for the animated series GLORIA’S
HOUSE, WICKED, JUANITO JONES, PETALS, THE SEASIDE HOTEL, DEADLY,
ZIGBY, ENYO and GASP. Michelle is a recipient of the Gloria Payton/Gloria
Dawn Fellowship and has received Sydney Theatre Awards for best actress for
her performances in ARCADIA, CRIMES OF THE HEART and THE HATPIN.
JESSICA SULLIVAN – Daisy
Jessica attained a Bachelor of Theatre Studies (Theatre and English)
from the University of New England in 2007. She also holds a Diploma in
Theatre Performance from STS 2009. Recent theatre credits include: THE
IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, MEASURE FOR MEASURE, THE REAL
INSPECTOR HOUND, TROILUS AND CRESSIDA, TEARS IN TINSELTOWN, THE
STRANGEST TRIBE, SISTERS, THE BLANKET THEORY, THE CHERRY ORCHARD,
JOAN OF ARC, MOONLIGHT, 242424 (Shopfront), THE SHED (Freshly
Squeezed), SAVE DRAFT and CHARITABLE INTENT. This is Jessica’s debut
performance at the Ensemble Theatre.

STEVEN BUTLER – Designer
Steven trained at NIDA in Theatrical Design, graduating in 2004, and is
currently finishing his Masters in Architecture at UNSW. Recent works include;
HMS PINAFORE (Melbourne) & the next Ensemble Theatre production
NOTHING PERSONAL (David Williamson, Dec 2011). Other theatre designs
include; THE MAGIC FLUTE (Adelaide), PLAYHOUSE CREATURES (Hobart),
FAUSTUS (B Sharp), THE WILD DUCK (New Theatre), THE ALTRUISTS (B
Sharp), THE GRAPES OF WRATH (NIDA), VINEGAR TOM, SPARKLESHARK, THE
ILLUSION, and STAGES AND HENS. In addition Steven has been the assistant
designer for the MTV awards, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, Channel
9 TV program RAGGS, Adelaide Festival and Bangarra. During this time
Steven has also had solo art exhibitions, and continues to lecture in Set and
Costume design. Whilst pursuing his love for theatre, Steven is also utilizing
his background in Architecture by merging Architectural practices with the
theatre design process.
PETER NEUFELD – Lighting Designer

MURDERERS, LITTLE NELL, TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, TRYING, THE DRAWER
BOY, A LOCAL MAN, AUNTY AND ME, SPINNING INTO BUTTER and I’M NOT
RAPPAPORT. For Sydney Theatre Company: THE PIG IRON PEOPLE, THE
VERTICAL HOUR, INFLUENCE, THE CLUB, ROME TREMBLE and WUNNERFUL
LIBERACE. For Bell Shakespeare: MEASURE FOR MEASURE, THE WAR OF THE
ROSES, THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS, HAMLET and THE MERCHANT OF
VENICE. Other productions include LOOKING THROUGH A GLASS ONION
(including its season in the West End), THE BLONDE, BRUNETTE AND
VENGEFUL REDHEAD, CAFÉ BREL, THE BASTARD FROM THE BUSH, THE
ELOCUTION OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, DON’S PARTY, PEARLS BEFORE SWINE
and PELL MELL. Peter has designed and been technical production manager
on many national & International corporate events. He has just lit the massive
BHP steel foundry exhibit in the Newcastle Regional Museum. An expert on
Computer Aided Design (Vectorworks) he also teaches at five universities.
DANIELLE MORRISON – Stage Manager
Danielle graduated in 2008 with a BA in Design for Theatre and Television
from Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga. Since leaving the countryside
Danielle has worked as a Stage Manager and lighting designer for THE
GOODIES, SBS YOUTH ORCHESTRA, VIVID SYDNEY-RACHID TAHA, ATYP-A
SECRET PLACE, ADAM BRAND, MELBOURNE COMEDY FESTIVAL ROADSHOW,
THE LAUGHING SAMOANS, PREMIER STATE BALLET, THE CHASERS AGE OF
TERROR VARIETY HOUR and ROCK EISTEDDFOD CHALLENGE. Danielle is
also involved in the audio scene where she has worked as a microphone
technician for Rockdale Musical Society, Willoughby Theatre Company, Bondi
Musical Society and is the Production Co-ordinator for Ironside Audio. She
has recently returned from working two years at London’s Lyric Theatre,
working on productions including GHOST STORIES, BLASTED and SPY
MONKEY. Danielle is excited for WARNING: EXPLICIT MATERIAL to be her first
production at the Ensemble Theatre.
LISA MIMMOCCHI – Wardrobe Coordinator
Since graduating from Sydney College of the Arts (2002) and Victorian
College of the Arts (2003) Lisa Mimmocchi has designed, manufactured
and co-ordinated costumes for theatre, contemporary dance and physical
theatre working for independent and commercial companies. Most recently
she has been based between Italy and Australia, touring in Cirque Du Soleil’s
wardrobe department for the European tour of ALEGRIA and the Australian
tour of DRALION. She has worked for companies such as Sydney Festival,
Performance Space, Pacific Opera, La Pocha Nostra (San Francisco), Opera
Publica (Rome) and contemporary circus performers Lin Yi and Wu Yi (China).

Please consider making a donation to the
Ensemble Theatre. All donations over $50.00
will be listed in our production programmes.
Donations can be made personally or on behalf of
someone who has enjoyed the theatre over the
years. For a more lasting legacy and if you feel the
time is right why not consider making provision in
your will for a bequest to the Ensemble Theatre.

Patrons are advised that the Ensemble Theatre has an EMERGENCY EVACUATION
PROCEDURE, a FIRE ALARM system and EXIT passageways. In case of an alert,
patrons should remain calm, look for the closest GREEN EXIT sign, listen to and
comply with directions given by the trained in-house attendants and if directed,
move in an orderly fashion to the open spaces outside the building.
The management reserves the right to make any alteration to cast which may
be rendered necessary by illness or any other unavoidable cause. Patrons are
reminded that out of consideration for others, latecomers cannot be admitted
until a suitable place in the performance. Taking photographs or tape recordings
during the performance is prohibited. Don’t forget to switch off your pagers and
mobile phones.
