Introducing the new Digimatic MyCal E-Z Caliper
featuring ABSOLUTE LINEAR ENCODER technology. It
has achieved superior cost performance and ease of use
by featuring only essential functions.
Features
• The Absolute MyCal E-Z allows direct measurements
from power on. You can forget the time consuming
origin setup which otherwise is required each time the
power is turned on.
• Zero-setting of the display is also possible at any slider
position for easy comparison measurements (incremental mode).
• Large .295" high LCD digits (.365" high LCD digits for
12" Model) allow measurement results to be at a
glance.

• A scale contamination detection function is implemented to detect contamination of surface and display the
error message (ErrC) on the LCD. The correct value is
only displayed if the contamination is removed.

MITUTOYO’s new Absolute
Encoder Digimatic Caliper offers
special functions which allow it to
always remember its measuring
position even after the gage has
been switched off.
• Origin: Allows setting of an origin
starting point to be used as reference in subsequent measurements (generally set to closed jaw

position). Once set, the Absolute
Encoder caliper will switch on
showing its true position from the
origin point rather than 0.0000 as
with standard models.
• Zero/ABS: Allows the display to
be Zero-Set at any point along the

mode and display of the true
position from the origin point.
Also provided is inch/mm conversion and SPC data output. Another
outstanding feature of the Absolute

SOLAR ABSOLUTE MyCAL
DIGIMATIC CALIPER
The Solar Absolute MyCAL is Mitutoyo's latest
advancement in caliper technology.
The Absolute Encoder feature eliminates the need for zero
setting each time the caliper is turned on.
The Solar Absolute MyCAL will always turn on showing its
true position. Memory of the origin point will not be lost
when power is cut off even if the caliper is left in complete
darkness for extended periods. Additionally, the Absolute
scale provides unlimited response speed which means no
more over-speed errors. For comparison measurements an
incremental measurement function is also provided.
Power is supplied by built-in solar cells which operate even
in low light conditions down to 60 Lux.

These large Digimatic Calipers have a beam constructed
of a strong carbon fiber which makes them both durable
and easy to handle. Standard jaws will take both outside
and inside dimensions. Optional attachments available for
special measurements.
Features
• Lightweight Digimatic caliper that employs CFRP
(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) in the beam and
jaws.
• The range of applications can be expanded by using
the optional attachments.
• Display: 6-digit LCD with a minus sign (-)
• Functions include:
Preset of desired starting point
Inch/mm conversion
Zero-setting, Data hold, Error alarm, Low battery alarm,
Data output. (Note: Data hold and output functions cannot be used at the same time.)
• Power supply: One SR44 (541980)

How to Read Vernier Calipers
Fractional Reading Vernier Scale.
1/16" on the main beam is subdivided
into eight or to 1/128".
Because of .300" inside jaw thickness,
the vernier is placed .300" off from
zero point.

Scale. 1/40th of an inch is
subdivided into 25 by the
vernier to read to onethousandth. One inch is
first divided into ten, and
then 40 graduations.
Each smallest graduation
on the main beam represents .025".
Inch Fractional and Decimal Readings
This vernier caliper has two scales which enable readings to a fraction of an inch as in the case of 1/128"
graduated vernier (upper scale), or in decimals as in the
case of 1/1000" graduated vernier (lower scale).
Each division on the fractional main scale represents
1/16th of an inch. The vernier further subdivides each
division on the main scale to read 1/128 of an inch.
Each division of the decimal main scale represents one
fortieth of an inch or .025". Each fourth line marked by 1
represents .100", the line marked 2 represents .200",
and so forth. The vernier consists of 25 equal divisions
which further subdivides each division on the main
scale to .001".

Inch Decimal Reading Only (for Inside and
Outside Jaws)
The vernier reads inside and outside dimensions with
the same jaws. Inside measurements are taken by the
specially designed jaw construction. Because of the
.300" inside jaw thickness, the vernier is placed .300" off
from zero point. Taking this difference into account, the
final inside reading is .300" greater than the outside
reading.
Like the Vernier Caliper in the preceding column, the
vernier above also reads to 1/1000 of an inch. In this
case, however, each division on the main scale represents one-twentieth of an inch or .050". This means each
division on the main scale is twice as wide as the previous example, and therefore, the vernier must span twice
the length to read to 1/1000 of an inch.

Pairs of conical probes are specially
designed for Digimatic, Dial and
Vernier calipers to quickly measure
centerline distances.
Due to the fact that the smaller
attachment is .375" in diameter, and
that the conical points are .375"
apart when closed, the centerline
gages do not measure distances
less than .375" when the caliper is
closed with the attachment installed.
The centerline distance is read
directly off the caliper without a conversion factor.
Each probe has two small holding
bolts and the attachment is supplied
with an Allen wrench. The probes
are black oxide finished, and are
quite durable for the required measurements.
The 60° conical probe snugly fits into
the holes, and takes guesswork away
from center distance measurements.
