About Akshaya Patra:
AkshayaPatra Foundation has set up a field kitchen in Nepal to sustain emergency meal distribution efforts
with the help of Jamsetji Tata Trust and Sipradian Sahayatha Sanstha. The charity is able to produce 100,000
meals every day for the Nepalese people in the wake of two massively destructive earthquakes. AkshayaPatra is
uniquely qualified to deliver hot meals on the ground because of their innovative use of mechanised kitchen
facilities that provide school meals to 1.4 million underpriviledged children in over 10,000 government
schools across India. Today the name is a trusted resource working in partnership with the government of
India and now also in Nepal.
Conditions in Nepal are changing on the ground daily. The charity with its expertise on setting up kitchen
facilities are doing their very best to reach out to the people there in their time of need. In order to extend the
support for whatever time period it is required, concerned and compassionate individuals can help by
sponsoring meals.
Cheques payable to ‘The AkshayaPatra Foundation UK’ ref: ‘Cafe Royal Art Event’, 60 Worship Street,

Online Preview Sale, Exhibition
& Evening Auction
Exhibition curated by Tanya Baxter Contemporary Gallery and Art Advisory, &
Earl Grinhaff Art Advisory
As the first part of the charity evening exhibition event and auction, this preview sale features key
blue chip works of art offered exclusively to important collectors. Buyers will receive a discounted
dealer price, which is approximately thirty percent less than market value. As well as benefiting from
an excellent discount on significant artworks, buyer’s will also become patrons of the Akshaya Patra
Foundation, as the thirty percent discount also includes an approximate twenty percent donation to the
charity towards their efforts in providing emergency food distribution to the victims of the Nepalese
earthquake crisis.
To set the tone for the auction and exhibition we aim to raise £50,000 upwards from the first online
preview sale towards Akshaya Patra Foundation. We aim to raise a further £50,000 upwards from the
exhibition held on the evening of Friday June 26, and approximately £150,000 from the auction held
that same evening. This should steer us towards a fundraising total of a quarter of a million pounds.
For more information on the artworks please contact Tanya Baxter Contemporary at

Andy Warhol’s long-term obsession with money is well-documented, from his much-quoted
philosophy that “making money is art and working is art and being good in business is the best art,” to
his detailed diary entries of the cost of each and every cab ride. His fascination with the dollar, and all
it symbolized, reached its apogee with his Dollar Sign series begun in 1981.
When Warhol’s Dollar Sign series was show at the Castelli Gallery two decades later, it seemed to
proclaim a new era of conspicuous consumption and capitalistic greed. They seamlessly synthesize
Warhol’s brilliant understanding of commerce and of art as a commodity with his expert graphic and
artistic skills. This particular example, with the four Dollar Signs rather than the usual singular image,
is a unique and rare example of the series.

Contemporary Art practice with his works taking their place in many of the world's most important
collections.
This Kapoor piece is an outstanding example of the artist’s work, the seductive color and distinctive
shape interact to create magical optical effects. He is considered one of the most important sculptors
in the world, and there is a very strong market for his work supported by his recent Royal Academy
show, Olympic commission, and upcoming Versailles show. This particular piece is a rare form for
Kapoor and has a strong presence with a mixture of power, elegance, and subdued flash. It is a truly
stunning piece.

In the early 1990s, Quinn rose to prominence as one of the original Young British Artists, or YBAs,
who shook up London’s contemporary-art scene with their provocative conceptual works and
hedonistic antics. The thread uniting the divergent group was, in Quinn’s view, “the idea of bringing
real life into art” as well as a refusal to wait for institutional approval to show their work. He was the
first YBA to be signed by Jay Jopling, director of the multivenue operation White Cube gallery, which
still represents him and others from the group. (YBA patron Charles Saatchi snapped up various
Quinn works through Jopling, including Self 1991, which he later sold to American hedge-fund
manager Steve Cohen.)
Today, Quinn’s paintings fetch up to $400,000 and his sculptures range from $250,000 to more than
$1.5 million at White Cube and Mary Boone Gallery in New York. His work is in the collections of
Britain’s Tate, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, among
other institutions.

As with all of Warhol’s best work, the Lenin Series highlights the artist’s talent not only his inspired
use of exceptionally strong and resounding source image, but also his unique ability to preserve the
character of the original photograph while simultaneously undermining the viewer’s expectation
through the play of colour, depth, and other alterations. Lenin is a truly magnificent work from
Warhol’s powerful final series: a masterful re-invention of communist propaganda ironically recreated by Warhol.

Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Can’s signaled the arrival of Pop Art and the launch of his stellar career.
By taking a ubiquitous food brand mass produced and consumed by millions of ordinary Americans
and transforming it into fine art, Warhol reinvented the traditional genre of still-life and of painting
itself. “I don’t think art should be only for the select few,” Warhol believed, “I think it should be for
the mass of the American people” (A. Warhol, quoted in MoMa Highlights, New York: The Museum
of Modern Art, revised 2004, originally published 1999, p. 260). Visually striking and highly
memorable, they are iconic images of burgeoning consumer culture, and a characteristically savvy
reflection of contemporary society and Warhol’s wider oeuvre.
The original soup cans, bought by a Los Angeles dealer for $1,000, were sold to the Museum of
Modern Art in New York City in 1996 for $15 million, a deal that promoted Warhol to art’s first
division, and solidified the importance of the Campbell’s Soup Cans. Today, Warhol is the backbone
of any auction of post-war contemporary art, and an important addition to any serious collection.

Damien Hirst’s energy, inventiveness, and his consistently visceral, visually arresting work has made
him a leading artist of his generation. Hirst first came to public attention in 1988 when he curated
Freeze, an exhibition that showcased his own work and that of his friends; the group that would
famously become known as the Young British Artists. Since then his work has been exhibited at the
Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Serpentine Gallery, Tate Modern, the
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Royal Academy of Arts London, the Museum of Modern Art New
York City, White Cube, and LACMA Los Angeles among others.
The growing interest in art as an investment has triggered even further demand for Damien Hirst and
will continue to do so in the future. Increased auction liquidity and price transparency make him an
ideal candidate in terms of investment value, similar to what other prolific artists such as Picasso,
Warhol, and Calder are today.

Zeng Chuanxing is a Chinese painter known for his portraits of minority girls and women. Born in
Longchang County in the Sichuan province, a minority region in China, Zeng’s work is influenced by
the environment in which he was brought up as well as by the changing cultural dynamic of China.
His most celebrated series, Paper Brides, embodies the main ideals of the artist’s work, which serve as
a commentary on the post-Mao, post-Cultural Revolution era, as well as on the Western influence on
Chinese culture. The female figures in this series are wrapped in red and white paper fabric that
symbolizes Chinese and Western tradition respectively. The delicate fabric serves as a representation
of the instability of marriage in 21st century China.
Zeng’s work has been exhibited at the Beijing Yan-Huant Art Museum, the Hunan Museum in
Changsha, and the Guangdong Art Museum in Guangzhou in China.
