Message from James Kozlowski (Principal)
On the back of a highly successful 2015, Endeavour has had an even more impressive beginning
to 2016.
OUR ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND FOCUS
Recently we shared on our social media the university destinations of our top HSC performers.
These students have successfully enrolled in courses that have included law, science, business,
marketing, media and communications, design, engineering and teaching to name a few.
Buoyed by the best HSC results in 5 years, our focus on quality teaching and learning continues
at great pace. Endeavour’s number one priority will always be producing high quality
educational outcomes for students. This means ensuring that every student reaches their
academic potential.
Our teachers have participated in intensive professional learning sessions in best practice teaching, and our teachers
of senior students have just completed an in-depth analysis of the 2015 HSC results. Professional learning based on
the very best research, combined with the use of student learning data, underpins our high quality learning
environment.
Our Year 7 Extension Class has made a great start to the year. Their differentiated curriculum is resulting in students
being challenged and engaged. We recently had a large number of Year 6 students sit the Extension Class exam for
2017.
The full roll-out of our High Expectations Policy has been nothing short of an outstanding success. Students, teachers
and parents are fully aware of the criteria that must be met for students to participate in extra-curricula and sporting
activities. The criteria include:
1. Minimum 90% attendance.
2. Consistent good behaviour.
3. No incomplete subject tasks such as classwork, homework or assessment tasks.

A GROWING SCHOOL AND RAISED CRITERIA FOR ENROLMENT
In the last 12 months we have seen a significant increase in our student population. Our 2016 Year 7 cohort is the
biggest in many years, and our enrolments are up by over 15% across Years 7-10. This has resulted in an increase in
the number of teachers at the school. Given the huge crowd at our Open Night we are expecting to see the numbers
continue to rise.
The increase in demand for places at Endeavour has resulted in us raising, once again, our criteria for entry.
Regardless of sporting or creative talent, students must be able to demonstrate that they are serious learners in
order to be accepted into the school.
THE CREATIVE ARTS
We are very proud of our talented students and no more so than in the area of creative arts. Leroy Heta was the
stand-out in music scoring a Band 6 in his HSC and being identified by the Department of Education as delivering one
of the best practical performances in the HSC. Marissa Benson scored a Band 6 in Dance and also did very well in Art.
She is using her skill-set to undertake a Bachelor of Design at NSW University. The students in our school band and
music program have been performing at various school events and they never fail to impress. Finally, our dancers are
preparing for a big year of performances at various competitions and will also perform at the Laguna Street Fair on
April 2.
STUDENT & STAFF LEADERSHIP
We are very proud of our 2016 student leadership group that is incredibly well led by Metika and Oliver. Our
captains, prefects and SRC members are leaders in every respect and consistently set a great example for our
student body. We are asking our student leaders to take a very high profile in our community because they are the
best ambassadors for our school. Having said this, we are constantly reminding all of our students that they
represent our school from the minute they leave home in the morning until they return in the afternoon. I am
pleased to say that we have received several phone calls and emails from members of the public praising the
behaviour of our students.
Our outstanding Deputy Principals, Mr Dummett & Ms Kapsimalis, have been justifiably recognised by being selected
as only two of 28 leaders in the country to appear in the ‘rising stars’ edition of The Educator magazine.
TARGETED SPORTS PROGRAM
No other school in the country has more successful partnerships with elite sporting organisations. They include:

Combined with our incredible coaching and state-of-the-art facilities, Endeavour’s Targeted Sports Program has
never looked stronger and the demand for places has skyrocketed. We are very excited about the introduction of
Cheerleading in 2017 to our list of sports, and we look forward to delivering a high quality program in this rapidly
growing sport.
Trials will be held for our TSP program in Weeks 1 & 2 of Term 2 and registration details can be obtained by calling
the school.
Another exciting term awaits us after the holidays.

Message from Sophia Kapsimalis (Deputy Principal)
We have had a busy ‘learning’ start to the year. The focus in Term 1 has been to consolidate the High Impact
Teaching & Learning practices outlined in our School Plan’s Strategic Directions which were implemented in 2015.
Collegial observations of teachers implementing Direct Instruction and HSC for Success strategies in the classroom
has been a highlight of Term 1. Teacher observations and peer feedback has provided a platform for an open
classroom and improved teaching practice. This notion of an open classroom and shared practice has had a positive
impact on student learning but has had the simultaneous effect of portraying staff to students as ongoing learners;
emphasising the learning culture we value and expect from both students and staff alike.
In Term 2 we will be continuing with the implementation of Visible Learning Strategies with a focus on Feedback.
Staff will be provided with professional learning and a cyclical approach to teacher observations will occur.
The Wellbeing Framework will also be workshopped as we move towards a Positive Behaviour for Learning welfare
system. It is envisioned that this supports The Higher Expectations Policy developed in 2015.
At the Year group level, Year 8 have settled into the rhythm of learning well this term. Due to an increase in
enrolments there will be an additional class added and a restructure of classes. Staff will be following the Change of
Class Policy in ensuring informed changes are made, in order to ensure students learning needs are met but also
accentuated.
It has been a positive start to the year for Year 10 also, their positive attitude to learning needs to continue. Many of
them have been taking advantage of our Homework Centre on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, which
has been very pleasing and indicates their serious approach to their studies. Planning ahead is very important at this
stage hence, I will be meeting with students mid Term 2 onwards to have serious career and senior school orientated
discussions, the purpose being to focus on goals and senior school learning.
I am both very excited and saddened to see Year 12 move through to their final year of school. They are a wonderful
cohort of students passionate about their learning and achievements but also passionate in regards to their school
and each other. During my classroom observations I have been impressed with their thirst for knowledge, inquisitive
questions, response to teacher feedback and the way in which they have been supporting each other. I am very
proud of Year 12 and I am looking forward to updating our school community and the broader community with their
many successes at the end of the school year. As with Year 10, I will be meeting with Year 12 students and their
parents through Term 2 to discuss and execute final HSC preparations and to discuss career options, University
courses, ATARS and other concerns which may be pressing. It is important to note that our students are not
completing the HSC alone but that we are all behind them.
The loftiest towers are built from the ground up!

Message from Ross Dummett (Deputy Principal)
Welcome back students, parents and staff to another great year at Endeavour Sports High School.
There are just a few things I would like to address in this edition of the Deputy’s Report.
High Expectations has officially started and in Week 5 of Term 1 we had our first review of the whole school
population. Just to remind parents, High Expectations looks at three key aspects of the school day:
1. Welfare – Attitude, application in the classroom and following school rules
2. Attendance – Have an attendance rate of over 90%
3. Non Completed Tasks – not having any outstanding tasks throughout the school year
Once the respective Year Advisers have completed their reviews, any student who fails any of these three core
principles is excluded from extra-curricula activity so that their only focus is the classroom and learning. Extracurricula activities extend to school excursions, camps and all sporting events.
Endeavour Sports High School is extremely committed to ensuring every student has the best possible education and
it has already been evident that our High Expectations policy is having a significant impact on the commitment and
culture of the students. The student body has responded positively and accepted increased challenges that
Endeavour Sports High School is asking of them both in and out of the classroom.
Earlier in the term we held our annual Open Night. This is an opportunity for parents and students from our feeder
primary schools to come and have a look at the school and decide if we are the best fit for their child. I am happy to
report that this year we noticed a significant increase in our attendance and fielded a lot of questions regarding the
application process. This is expected to translate into further growth for 2017, which is very exciting as a school.
Finally, Year 12 have just started their Half Yearly Exams. I had the pleasure of supervising the first exam, English, and
I was very impressed with the commitment and application by all students. For the entire time all you could hear was
the soft sound of ball point pens on paper. Last year’s Year 12 cohort did extremely well and we are expecting even
better results from this year cohort once the Higher School Certificate rolls around. Well done Year 12, keep up the
great work.
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter break and would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break.

MATHEMATICS
We have had a great start to Mathematics in 2016. On the back of our 2015 HSC results, which were the best in
Mathematics and General Mathematics for five years. Every student in Mathematics achieved above average scores
for their value added mark and every student in Extension Mathematics scored an E3 or above. In General
Mathematics, we had a student achieve the highest mark in five years and the majority of students in the top class
scored well above the average value added score.
Year 11 have just completed their first assessment task and the results from this task look promising as many
students achieved excellent results. Year 10 have their in class exam coming up in Week 10, Year 9 currently have an
assignment which is due Monday Week 11. Year 8 have just completed their first exam for the year and Year 7 will
be completing their exams in week 11. Good luck to Year 12 who are about to start their Half Yearly exams.

LIBRARY
The library has been a hub of activity so far this term. Classes are booked in for research most periods of each day
and senior students are regularly working in the library during their study periods. Before school, recess and lunch
time are also very busy with both junior and senior students completing homework and assessment tasks. Our library
has also been used as a venue for various external presentations such as VET courses presentations, NRL welfare
courses, staff professional learning, hosting international students.
Oliver Implementation
Our school is in the process of migrating to the new library management system Oliver. The library staff are well into
the 12 week transition period where we have been completing designated tasks, completing study modules
(including sitting for a test!) and familiarising ourselves with the new system. All running smoothly, migration takes
place in the final week of Term 1. When the process is completed, students will be shown how to search for
resources using the new system.
Year 7 Reading Challenge
Reading is an excellent way to enrich our knowledge of the world around us and the emotions within us. It helps
extend our vocabulary, widen our perspective and expand our imagination.
A number of our Year 7 students are participating in either the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) or the Endeavour
Reading Challenge. Students may choose which challenge they undertake. Once a cycle I review books to assist
students with their choices and students are given the opportunity to update their registers if they haven’t already
done so at home. Both challenges
require students to have read 20
books by 19 August.

Year 8 Modern Greek Language
Year 8 Greek language classes have had a busy, fun-filled start to the year.
They have mastered reciting the Greek alphabet and have been surprised at how much usage of the Greek language
is made within the English language.
All students know how to spell
their name in Greek and can
hold a simple conversation with
each other in Greek, asking and
answering about their name,
where they live and where they
were born.
In addition, students are
familiar with general facts
about Greece; Capital city, tallest mountain, longest river, currency and
geographical location.
Students know how to draw the Greek flag and its symbolism as well as Greek National Day and the role and duties
of the Presidential Guards.

costumes which they
really enjoyed.

EXTENSION CLASS
It has been a productive and busy start to the year for our Extension Class cohort that we call the J class. They have
not only transitioned extremely well from their primary schools, seamlessly moulding into the Endeavour family but
have also engaged in numerous extra curricula activities already, broadening their academic, sporting and social
connections.
Each student has been asked to submit a self-profile survey on their strengths and motivations and the hobbies that
they engage in outside of school. These, along with the Extension Class teacher observation surveys have helped us
to begin the process of identifying the varied talents and gifts that our students have so that we can put in place
differentiation programs. These programs across the KLAs will cater for the acceleration or extension of students
that are already achieving the outcomes of Stage 4 and to encourage others to pursue leadership activities, personal
interests in creative arts, music and or humanities.
I have had the pleasure of meeting with the J class daily in the LEP (Learning Enrichment Program) time, where I
touch base with them about upcoming excursions, school initiatives and of course how they are going in their
subjects. The students have so far expressed an overwhelming appreciation of what the school has to offer and
they seem genuinely excited and happy with their introduction to high school here at Endeavour. We have begun
the process of working through Numeracy questions and activities during LEP to strengthen their skills so that they
are better equipped for Naplan in May. I am delighted to report that the students are finding the booklet easy and
they are eager to be extended. I have since had the Learning Support team put together more challenging work
and we will progress to this promptly.
Recently we had three of our J
class students submit a poem in
the
‘Gifted
and
Talented
Awareness week’ competition run
by the AAEGT (The Australian
Association for the Education of
the Gifted and Talented). They
were Harrison Parker, Sophia
Vagana and Byron Kay. All of
these
wonderful
students
prepared their own poems and
submitted them to the delight of
the NSW AAEGT chairperson. She
sent me back an email saying how
much she loved their poems and
how grateful she was for our
support in this initiative. Those three students were recognised for their
efforts with a Personal Best award and two of them were on Facebook with
their poems (see this page for a peek of their efforts). I would like to see
more students enter these competitions in future so they can broaden their educational experience and appreciate
different mediums of expression.
The J class have also just had the privilege of travelling by train then ferry out to Cockatoo Island for Geography
during Week 8, where they were exposed to a World Heritage listed site right here in Sydney. Mrs Jackson and I
accompanied them on this excursion and it was a great experience for us to see the students outside the
classroom. They were highly curious and demonstrated their own knowledge about Sydney’s convict past. Stand
out students such as Aden Davidson, Bayley Broadhurst, Harrison Parker, Juan Mallama Garcia, Byron Kay,
Reneigh Scott and Sophia Vagana all asked insightful questions about how the movement of people across
continents impacted Australia in the convict era and later on when the Orphanage for homeless children was
established in the late 1870s. It was an outstanding learning experience that the students thanked us for as they
left for the day.
It is wonderful to have these
opportunities to take the students
from the classroom out to field
trips as they enrich their
experience of the syllabus in more
tangible and real ways. We had
the added extra of the ‘Biennale
art exhibition’ being housed there
on the day and the students were
able to view and appreciate some
of the fascinating art work
capturing some of the raw and
often confronting aspects of the
human condition such as the
entrapment of young children’s
lives when destitute children lived
in the dorms of the orphanage. It
made the students appreciate
what they have and how lucky they are.
Up and coming events include the ‘Enviromaths’ excursion at the
Botanic Gardens on May 4 with Mr Donaghy, where the students
explore Mathematics through a study of the natural environment.
Mr Marland ( Head Teacher Mathematics) has also organised for a new program called Cambridge HOTmaths to be
implemented for the J class. It is a comprehensive mathematics learning system – an interactive online maths
learning, teaching and assessment resource for students and teachers, for individuals or whole classes, for school
and at home. We are investigating many new initiatives so that we can provide the best learning experiences not
only for students in the J class but across the entire Year 7 cohort.
The entire cohort of Year 7 has also undertaken the Acer- MYAT (Middle year Assessment) test in Week 9 so that
data received from this will allow for staff to consider further placements into the J class from other Year 7 classes
and for movement of students from the J class who are not performing at the levels anticipated.
The Extension Class team and I look forward to working with your children in Term 2 and hope to bring further rich
and motivational experiences to their education here at Endeavour Sports High School

SRC - 2016
The Student Representative Council – Celebrating a Wonderful Start to the Year
Term 1 of 2016 has been a rewarding and busy time for Endeavour’s SRC. New to the co-ordinator’s position, I have
been met with enthusiasm everywhere I look. The SRC have been participating in numerous leadership activities,
both at local schools and soon in Parliament. They have registered to partake in the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day
and have kept in contact with our partner school in Tanzania, St Judes. Such organisations have inspired us to
continue with fund raising ideas throughout the year, so please stay tuned!
I would particularly like to acknowledge the SRC’s
organisation and efforts on Open Night, where
they were able to display their keen leadership
skills and share with the local community their
love for and knowledge of our school. Students
stayed back longer than asked for and genuinely
enjoyed their involvement and the opportunity
to assist.
A special mention of Zac McLoughlin, Year 9, and
Marija Trpenoska, Year 8, who have volunteered
their time every morning and afternoon to the
raising of our new flags on the quad.
Finally, our senior members, specifically Oliver Milgate, Metika Collis Glynn, Zach Stewart, Dimitri Magoulias,
Tamika Siumaka and Crystal Reidy have made my role as co-ordinator that much easier and more enjoyable by
displaying their continual efforts and contributions and always offering a helping hand when I need it! They are
exceptional leaders for our school.

The School of St Jude – Report by Metika Collis Glynn, School Captain
On Thursday 17 March, Oliver and I along with our SRC
Coordinator, Miss Hountalas, were privileged enough to
be invited to Kareela Golf Club by the Sylvania Rotary Club
for a benefit dinner in support of The School of St Jude in
Tanzania. This is an extremely special school that
Endeavour holds close to its heart, due to our sponsor
child, Daudi. Endeavour has been sponsoring Daudi since
2011, and we are extremely proud of his schooling
journey, shaping him into an exceptional adult, ready for
his future. Our school has made a huge impact on this
young man’s life through our fundraising and support, and
it is very rewarding to hear about his experiences on the
other side of the world.
At this benefit dinner, we had the pleasure of hearing
Gemma Sisia’s inspiring story of “fighting poverty through
education.” She was the founder and brains behind The School of St Jude, and it is with her hard work,
determination and compassion that young people in struggling Tanzania now have the opportunity to learn and
access education. Gemma believes that a high-quality education should be the right of all children in the world, and
that education is the strongest weapon in the fight against poverty, corruption and political instability. Her story was
powerful and motivating, as she was just a normal Australian girl from Armidale, who from travelling to Africa as a
volunteer, gained a passion to change the world… And she did!
We also had the opportunity to hear Dorice Livingstone’s
moving story of being a student in Tanzania and how through
hard work and commitment, she now has the opportunity to
fulfil her dream and attend university to become a doctor.
Through having the opportunity to learn, Dorice can give
back to her local community, and for that she is eternally
grateful.
This evening was extremely motivating and it taught me that
we need to take advantage of every opportunity we are given
and value our education to the fullest and not take it for
granted.

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE
Endeavour says ‘No to Bullying and Harassment’
On Friday 18 March, Endeavour Sports High School again participated in the ‘National Day of Action against Bullying
and Violence.’ The aim of this initiative is to emphasise the commitment that Australian Schools make in creating a
supportive school environment, free from bullying, harassment and violence. Participation in this day was a way of
reinforcing Endeavour’s policy on anti-bullying:
‘Every person at Endeavour Sports High School has the right
to learn and teach within a safe, happy, fair and supportive
environment. As a community we value cooperation,
respect and compassion for others. At our school everyone
has the right to experience positive and respectful
relationships based on these qualities. Bullying is therefore,

This day was combined with Harmony Day, traditionally held
on March 21. Harmony Day is intended to show cohesion
and inclusion in Australia and promote a tolerant and
culturally diverse society. It is about community
participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
We took this opportunity to reinforce Endeavour’s stance on bullying and violence starting with a whole school
assembly. Our Principal, Mr James Kozlowski, addressed the school community providing a very clear message that
bullying and harassment has no place at our school. He discussed the importance of valuing individual differences
and taking the opportunity to learn from and accept these differences.
The School Captains, Metika Collis Glynn and Oliver Milgate presented a compassionate and engaging speech
discussing the importance of inclusiveness and the significant role of the bystander in providing support for all.
Nick Margaritas and Chantelle Symes demonstrated our array of
talent by performing a musical item that sent a message of resilience,
strength and compassion.
The Staff band then wowed our student audience with their rendition
of Santana’s, ‘Smooth’. Who would have thought we had such talent?
A local community organisation, ‘Headspace’ addressed the assembly
providing valuable information about support available for teenagers.
During the assembly we reinforced our continuing philosophy on antibullying and violence by showing a video clip made at Endeavour called ‘The Endeavour Promise,’ an uplifting
presentation involving our whole school community standing united against bullying and showing the importance of
the Endeavour family. Thank you to Tamika and our Year 11 girls for this wonderful presentation.
The assembly was then followed by a variety of whole school
activities emphasising the importance of community and standing
together against bullying. A number of cultural food stalls were set
up to reflect our cultural diversity and local support groups
provided information and activities for our students to participate
in.
It was great to see all the students and staff unite in our stance
against bullying and violence. This day was not a one-off. It
supports other programs implemented within the school such as
Rock and Water, Cyber Safety presentations, Internet Safety and
Social Networking, Anti-Racism, Peer Support and White Ribbon
initiatives.

U-TURN THE WHEEL
U-turn the Wheel is a series of road safety and awareness workshops aimed at those young beginning
and developing drivers in each district, locally, nationally, and internationally and run by the local Rotary Clubs within
each district.
This one-day program is designed to reinforce the Road Safety
curricula already being implemented in schools and provide
an opportunity for Year 11 students to access additional road
safety resources not easily available within the school. The UTurn the Wheel program is designed to specifically address
the attitudes & awareness of driver related issues such as
speed, fatigue, alcohol, drugs and the wearing of seat belts;
each of which have been identified as major contributors to
road casualties among our young drivers.
The students were split into groups and participated in various workshops, each dealing with a specific driving issue:
Keeping your L’s and P’s
This focuses on identifying risk taking behaviour,
such as speeding and use of mobiles.
Buying a safe used car
NRMA gives advice on what to avoid when
buying a used car. This also included a hands-on
session which covers car maintenance.
Are we there yet?
The students learn to manage distractions which in turn minimise the chances of a crash. The presenters also
discussed real-life consequences of car crashes.
Being fit to drive
In this workshop, students learn about how various substances can
inhibit driving ability and that there are no safe amounts of alcohol
when it comes to driving.
Overall this was a highly successful day with students actively
participating and learning about what it takes to be a safe driver on
Australian roads.

TSP CRICKET
There has been plenty happening over the past eight weeks in TSP Cricket.
The last week of last term saw our boys play the final of the Sydney Sixers 20/20 against Kirrawee High School. As
defending champions we were hoping to make it two in a row, but Kirrawee had a good side and we had to ensure
that we played well to get the win. We batted first and scored 110 with good contributions from Zac Hart (30), Akash
Biradar (32) and Jermaine Melchior (20).
Luckily our bowlers performed well with Zac Hart (2/12), James Muggeridge ( 2 /12) and Akash Biradar (2 for 13).
Well done boys. Champions two years running.
The senior Davidson Shield boys have also
performed well against the other sports
schools. A great away win versus Hunter was
followed by a last ball loss to Hills and a
second last ball loss to Westfields. We have
managed to narrow the gap greatly between
our sides in the last several years and this has
been due to the unity and ability of our senior
cohort. It has been great to see the
development of the squad both in terms of
their cricketing ability and their maturity as
quality individuals.
On 23 March we played against and beat
Westfields Sports High School which means
the boys have qualified to play in the last four at Bathurst in Week 10. There have been some good individual
performances from Luke Hawksworth, Will Vaandermall, Dimitri Magoulias and Harrison Tattersall. Special
mention to James Muggeridge of Year 10 who has been the outstanding bowler throughout both the 40 and 20 over
games.
Representative honours have also been achieved with Sydney East having Will Vaandermall, Luke Hawksworth,
Harrison Tattersall and Zac Hart all participating in the recent round robin competition.
From this, Luke was selected in the CHS seconds team.
The juniors have been training well and seem to be very passionate and committed to their favourite sport. This is
encouraging and we look forward to seeing how well they perform in Term 4.

Welcome back to an exciting year in Football at Endeavour Sports High School.
Sydney FC and Endeavour Sports High School
The launch of the Sydney FC School at ESHS took place earlier this year to
formalise our partnership with Sydney FC. It was attended by the Sydney FC
academy staff, our Principal, Mr Kozlowski and special guests Teresa Polias, ESHS
girls’ patron and captain of Sydney FC W-League grand finalists, Brandon O’Neill
and Riley Woodcock, both members of Sydney FC A-League team. The Leader
publicised an article on this event on our behalf. All our students, boys and girls
were in immaculate school uniform and listened with intent and respect to all
speeches, reflecting this day of significance.
Jimmy Van Weeren, our Sydney FC coach, has been busy
coordinating all years and has all the students well organised and
focused on their training. Stacy Allogdellis, our goalkeeper coach has
organised junior and senior specific sessions whilst Mr Bradley has
the girls working hard on technique development and developing
the FC principles of play.
Open Sports High School Round Robin
As the term has progressed we are now entering into a period
where some game time is being made available to our students. The Open boys and girls are now beginning their
games in the Sports High School round robin having just completed their first games against Hunter. The boys are
showing significant progress from last year and came out with a well fought draw against last year’s winners of the
Sports High School Cup. Ball movement and shape of play were pleasing aspects of their play. The girls started well
against a particularly strong Hunter team that was made up of emerging Jets, mainly from Year 12. Our young team
performed well initially, holding possession well but as the game wore on struggled to compete physically with
Hunter and ended up well beaten. Kelly Cross, Sydney FC Academy director who was in attendance on the day was
pleased with the direction both our boys and girls are heading in playing the style of football required by Sydney FC.
Sydney East Trials
The Sydney East trials were held recently. The girls were successful in
having Georgia Plessas, our Australian rep from last year, Emily Thurgar,
Year 9 student Alex Timms and Carla Smith all successful in making the
final squad.
In the boys, congratulations go to Perry Thomas (part of NSW All
Schools State team last year), Tommy Meier, Jared Kadar, Nathan
Hancock and Alex Lopez in making the Sydney East team to compete up in the Hunter next term.
Sydney FC Gala Days for Year 7 and 8
As part of the Sydney FC program our junior squads will be playing
against the other Sydney FC schools. These football days will have all
students play in teams, not necessarily schools on these days. It is an
opportunity for the students to be viewed in game situations.
The first of these days took place recently at ESHS where our Year 7 and
Year 8 boys took part in this competition at 5 Sports. Bossley Park, Hills
and Narrabeen all brought players to this day. By all accounts this was a
very successful start to this style of interaction between schools.
Term 2
Many competitions will be occurring during Term 2 including Regional Futsal, Under 15 Turner Cup (boys) and
Trophy (girls) and a continuation of the Sydney FC gala days. Our Sydney East regional competitions are also on, with
our boys and girls vying for an opportunity to trial for State representation.
All our students have been combining their obligations to football and schooling well, however, just a gentle
reminder to those students who may be a little behind in the school’s “High Expectations”. It is mandatory that
students fulfil their attendance obligations to the classroom and training and that all tasks are completed to a
satisfactory standard to ensure they are available to represent the school in any excursion.
Beyond football, ESHS we will be involved with the official launch of the Sports High School Association that will be
taking place at the Sydney Cricket ground and attended by Mr John Coates AC, President Australian Olympic
Committee and Vice President, International Olympic Committee. This is a vindication of the principle of Sports High
Schools and reflects the developing understanding and appreciation of how sports high schools have been integral in
the development of students in their chosen sport. It will be a widely publicised event that will be covered by FOX
sports.
We look forward to a year of firsts for Endeavour, Sydney FC and the Sports High Schools Association and we are glad
that our students and their parents/carers are able to be part of these exciting times. Good luck to all.

TSP NETBALL
Our TSP Netballers have been consistently training hard in Term 1.
Every Tuesday they receive specialist training from Ms McCulloch who shares
some expert pointers with the girls.
Every Thursday they visit the gym where they strengthen their bodies and do
circuit training. They are being fitness tested and all girls are showing
improvements in cardio and strength.
Our senior netballers successfully competed in the Sydney East Opens Knockout
competition and have progressed to the next round which will be played in
Term 2. Three of our netballers, Ky-Mani Schwenke, Kyla Gordon and Lauren
Hamilton Smith, have also trialled and made it in the Sydney East Opens team.
That is a great achievement. Congratulations to those girls.
We are physically ready for Term 2 when our girls will begin participating in various netball competitions.

TSP SWIMMING
The start of the new swimming year has been very busy with the many carnivals taking place. The TSP swimming
squad has been training hard and with commitment under coach Craig Stevens, working towards improving times
and qualifying to represent at the next level of competition.
The squad welcomes our three new Year 7 swimmers, Johnathon Goddard,
Leilani Fauonuku and Andrew Rutherford as well as Jayden Gimbergh, a Year 11
student who has joined the squad from Tamworth and has been an asset to the
program as part of our successful boys freestyle and medley relay teams.
Our TSP squad also helped at the Sutherland Zone PSSA swimming carnival
where they performed time keeping duties. This is a good experience for the
swimmers to experience another very important aspect of competitive
swimming.

Endeavour Sports High School, Port Hacking Zone and Sydney East Carnivals,

Elite Sports High Schools Rugby Sevens
With the introduction of Rugby Sevens as an Olympic Sport in Rio this year, the ARU has teamed up with the Sports
High Schools Association (of which James Kozlowski is the Vice President), to run The Elite Sports High Schools Rugby
Sevens Tournament. Matraville SHS hosted the second leg of the tournament which saw Endeavour u17’s finish 3 rd
out of 7. Endeavour beat Narrabeen SHS 29 - 21, but narrowly lost to Westfields 19 - 26 to finish 2nd in Pool A.
Endeavour SHS went on to defeat Matraville SHS 38-0 in the Playoff to finish 3rd overall. The squad conducted
themselves with professionalism on and off the field. The coaching staff are very proud. Player of the Day was Dantè
Lusio with 8 tries across 4 games.

TSP RUGBY LEAGUE
Welcome to all our students and their families to what we
anticipate being another exciting and rewarding year. The
2016 Rugby League season has started busier than ever, with
our regular training sessions at school and a number of
games already played.
St Marys Cup
The first game of the season was played on Endeavour’s
“Field of Dreams” on Monday March 7 against Ashcroft High,
who have only entered the St Marys Cup competition this
year. Prior to the Opens match we had a trial game against
Ashcroft’s under 14 team. Despite the opposition scoring
first, the Endeavour boys were able to run away with a
resounding win 42-10.
The Opens game was keenly contested and
Ashcroft threw everything at Endeavour’s
defence. In the end, the boys in red had a
resounding win to kick start the 2016 season,
winning 30-12.
Our second St Marys Cup game was against
Chifley College in Week 9. Scores were close
at half time with Chifley in front 10-6. An
early try to Chifley put them even further
ahead but the Endeavour team were able to
claw back and eventually come away with a
convincing 38-12 victory.

Buettner Shield and Stanley Cup
On Wednesday March 9, the under 13s and
under 15s ventured out to Cabramatta stadium
to take on Westfields Sports HS and Illawarra
Sports HS in the preliminary rounds of the
Buettner Shield and Stanley Cup. In this
competition there are two pools. Each school
plays the other two schools in their pool, with
each team ranked at the end of the day’s play.
The number one ranked team takes on the
number one ranked team of the other pool,
consisting of The Hills Sports HS, Matraville
Sports HS and Hunter Sports HS on the finals
day. The second and third ranked teams take
on the corresponding teams on finals days also.
The 13s played first up
against Illawarra and
were able to get away
to a solid start and
score a comfortable
win against the south
coast boys. The under
15s game against
Illawarra went the
same way as the 13s,
despite a lack of
possession in the
opening stanza of the
game.
The second
game against Westfields in both the under 13s and 15s was a tougher test against a bigger opposition, Westfields
prevailing in both games.
Canberra Nines
Our Opens team ventured down to Queanbeyan for the Nines carnival hosted by Erindale High School. After
camping out at school overnight in preparation for a 6am departure, the boys jumped straight off the bus onto
Seiffert Oval for the first of five games for the day. Despite being undefeated for all pool games including a victory
against the host school, Erindale were able to scrape their way to a 22-18 win in the final. Despite the loss, the boys
thoroughly enjoyed playing in the nines format and had a great day.
Sydney East Trials
The Sydney East trials were held in Week 8 at the Cronulla Academy. The trials are the first opportunity for boys in
the under 15s and Opens to gain selection in a schoolboy representative team. Congratulations to the following boys

Refereeing Day
Earlier in Term 1, our Year 10 boys completed their
refereeing course, conducted by NRL Development
Officers from Cronulla. A number of the boys were
then given the opportunity to referee for the primary school ET Shield at Barden Ridge, held in Week 8. As relayed in
Michael Hanratty’s email from the NRL (below), the following students were obviously outstanding ambassadors for

Endeavour SHS was well represented in the Auckland 9s
with 12 graduates competing across 9 of the 16 teams
