The idea to work with Mexican
artisanry started with a trip
to Oaxaca in 2009 where
David saw artisans work with
“Barro Negro” for the first time.
Since then we are committed to
Mexican culture and craft.
We are on a constant journey to combine tradition and
innovation with our passion for high quality. Mexico
is a rich country in culture and art, but we can see
many traditional materials not coming out of their
preconception. Our focus lies on local craftsmanship,
combining the incredibly interesting materials with
contemporary design and state of the art technology.
We see a big advantage in local manufactures by
creating small collections of exclusive and individual
personality that embody Mexican heritage in an
outstanding design concepts.
Studio davidpompa’s corporate culture is driven by the
love for the work we do. We are obsessed with quality
and try to share the same philosophy with our craftsman.
We are on a constant journey to discover new parts of
Mexican culture and try to innovate heritage.
We don’t focus on working with big companies, we
have the commitment to work with the best artisans and
professionals in each field.
We see the artisans, communities and companies as
partners to create beautiful and high quality products.
Over the last years we tried to achieve a new level of
quality in different artisanry by challenging the ways of
production to guarantee a wonderful product, piece by
piece.
Studio davidpompa was
born out of the desire to
create contemporary design
with a strong commitment to
Mexican identity.
We work with an ethos of
innovating craftsmanship &
materials while respecting
its heritage.
We see a big
advantage in local
manufactures by
creating small
collections of
exclusive and
individual personality
that embody
Mexican heritage
in an outstanding
design concept.

handblown &
recycled glass
For all of our products we use 100% recycled glass.
This creates surprisingly tiny air bubbles inside
the glass surface and creates a special appeal
combined with light.
Glassblowing is a glass forming technique that
involves inflating molten glass into a bubble with the
aid of a blowpipe. The glassblower brings the glass
in its shape at this moment before it cools down.
That allows the glassblower to define the shape
more exactly.
Because of the artisanal hand driven process,
every piece shows a unique personality. We use
traditional methods together with high quality
standards for our products.

Barro Negro
Barro Negro is a special pottery from San Bartolo
Coyotepec Oaxaca, wich is characterized by its
black colour that is found just in this area.
The magic behind this material is the process which
requires a lot of experience, sensitiveness and time.
Polishing the pieces before firing with smoke creates
the metallic shine on the surface. Today just a few
families produce Barro Negro pieces and secure
their living expenses by selling mainly decorated art
sculptures and vases.
Our aim is to reinvent this extraordinary artisanry
in a contemporary way as well as it is our principle
to improve the artisans living situation by creating a
professional and constant work environment.

Uriarte
Talavera
Talavera has its origins in Puebla, Mexico.
It is considered a premium quality pottery in
Mexico as well as in many parts of the world.
It is known for tableware, vases and tiles. The
process to create Talavera is elaborate and
it has not changed since the early colonial
period when the craft was first introduced.
Only natural clays found in the area are used.
We have a collaboration with Uriarte
Talavera - the company was founded in
1824 and is famous all over Mexico for their
exceptional quality.
Our aim is to reinvent Talavera with a new
unique visual identity, but still respecting the
materials heritage.

handwoven
It is a tradition in Mexico to weave any product
or form. We are working together with “AKELE
home”, a family company with tradition,
experience and incomparable quality on our
first collection woven by Mexican artisans.
The framework is made of metal and will be
powder-coated to ensure long lasting products.
After this, the artisans start weaving with a
complex technique. The recyclable plastic
strings are produced with high quality basic
materials which guarantee durability in and
outdoor.
La Caleta creates
