ENGUNGWINI Editor’s Foreword The most significant accomplishment is the successful introduction of the SwaziBank Debit Card which is supported by MasterCard. (See pages 6&7). VISION To be the first choice provider of world class financial services nationally and beyond. It is on that premise that the Bank has been able to finance a number of viable projects as per its mandate to develop the economy as well as look after the community it operates within through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme. MISSION To continually exceed customer expectations through: • The provision of excellent and competitive financial products and management services • The offer of unique memorable experiences • The professional management and administration of funded projects Through its CSI programme, the Bank was able to host yet another successful SwaziBank Cup tournament with the slogan “Kusenjalo… .Washa-Thu!!” (Read more on Pages 26-31). The Bank’s aggressive and successful CSI programme has seen it being conferred with a PMR Diamond Arrow Award 2013 for being the institution doing most to enhance Corporate Social Responsibility in Swaziland. (Read more on Page 8). DEAR READERS AND COLLEAGUES It is that time once again when the Engungwini News is published with diversified coverage focusing on activities of the Bank with its internal and external stakeholders. The Bank has had its fair share of accomplishments and challenges throughout 2013, but as a family we are still marching on with one aim – to make SwaziBank a first choice provider of world class financial services nationally and beyond – as enshrined in the Vision Statement. 2 Engungwini Newsletter On the sporting side, SwaziBank staff travelled to Botswana on September 5 last year to participate in the tripartite sporting activities featuring Bank of Botswana (Bob) and South Africa’s Industrial Development Company (IDC). The games were played at Gaborone on September 6 and 7, and we were all back on September 8. (See more on Pages 32 and 33). Your favourite picture spread “Roving Eye” is featured on Pages 20 and 21. Lukhele joined SwaziBank in 2004 as General Manager Financial Services, responsible for credit functions and insurance business where he headed asset finance, venture capital and empowerment fund, SMME development and Small Scale Guarantee Fund. In 2010, he was appointed Executive Manager Corporate Services, a position he held until his appointment as MD. Lukhele joined the Central Bank of Swaziland (CBS) in 1981 and worked in various departments until 1993. He worked as supervisor in the Exchange Control Department and thereafter as an Economist in the Research Department. He was later promoted to Senior Economist and also acted as Research Manager in that department. From 1994 to 2004, Lukhele worked for Swaziland Railway (SR) as Market Research and Development Manager and thereafter as Corporate Planner and Board Secretary. Lukhele holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Illinois in the United States of America (1990); Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Botswana and Swaziland (1980) and a post graduate Diploma in Advanced Banking from the University of Johannesburg (2005). Speaking during a Media Conference where his appointment was announced by the Minister of Finance Martin Dlamini, Lukhele promised that he will take his new responsibility with full commitment and further do his best at all times. He thanked Government for trusting him to take up this challenging position. He also thanked customers and staff for being calm and loyal to the Bank during the period when the institution had no substantive MD. Minister Dlamini acknowledged that Lukhele’s new position was a mammoth task which he (Dlamini) was optimistic that the new MD will successfully execute. Engungwini Newsletter 3 ENGUNGWINI Column FROM FROMTHE THEMDÊS MDÊSDESK DESK I feel honoured to be appointed the Managing Director of the Bank at this point in time. It is indeed a great challenge and one that I take with full commitment. I do not for a second underestimate the magnitude of the responsibility before me. I wish to thank the outgoing Board and His Majesty’s Government for the trust that they have bestowed on me. I also wish to thank staff for the support and congratulatory messages. I hope that we will continue to work together to take this bank further in the path of progress. Despite the difficulties of the past year while the Board worked on filling the position it was still a year of progress, and one in which we all held together to keep the Bank going. For this I wish to thank the bank’s staff for being calm and focusing on their work. While Mr. Enock Mavimbela, Ms. Babhekile Matsebula and myself acted in the position at different times we were able to get support from the staff. The Board also acted with diligence in ensuring that continuity and stability was maintained. We should also be grateful to our customers who also continued to support the bank. We should also not forget my predecessor, the late Stanley Matsebula, for the good work he did in steering the Bank from difficult times to what it is now. As I take over I have ample confidence in the resilience and continuity of the bank as a business. There are of course still many challenges but a good foundation is there to build on. It is up to us, the employees of the bank to ensure that we work together and focus on a better future for the Bank. Taking the bank forward is our collective responsibility and I hope that we support each other and work hard. 4 Engungwini Newsletter When I joined the bank, just over ten years ago, it was just a few years from its re-launch. The process of change was already in motion and moving fast. Since then there has still been immense change in both operations and personnel at all levels. It is inevitable that during my time as Managing Director the Bank will continue to change to remain relevant to the times while keeping and fulfilling its mandate. However, I am confident that we have a carefully recruited and well qualified workforce and the physical assets and systems to compete in the banking sector. We have rolled out a variety of other products including Khululeka, Siphephelo, Insika Savings, Siyakhula, Silulu in our quest to offer our clients a variety of products. He noted that the Bank’s services so far have been accessible only in Swaziland, making it impossible for customers to access their funds when they are out of the country. “The Bank was obliged to address this by soliciting a banking solution that will allow our customers to access their funds across borders. This challenge was identified as part of the Bank’s Strategic Plan and that is how the partnership between SwaziBank and MasterCard was born,” said Lukhele. SWAZIBANK has sponsored the 2014 Swaziland Schools Music Competition with a total of E400, 000 as the annual event reaches its 10th year since inception. The sponsorship is made up of E280, 000 for the competition and E120, 000 to cater for the 10th Anniversary activities such as an orchestra. SwaziBank Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele announced that the main sponsorship was E580, 000 over two years, which meant E280, 000 in 2014 and the same amount for 2015. “The 2014 competition is an important milestone because it is the 10th anniversary of the sponsorship. We will, therefore, do things differently,” he said during the launch of this year’s competition at the SwaziBank Auditorium on Tuesday 27th of May 2014. He added: “The competition has an exciting line-up which will include an orchestra for Champ of Champs choirs. We have also been assured of the presence of the Afro Tenors group during Champs of Champs completion, and also the introduction of soprano and alto soloists for primary school competitions, to mention but a few.” The MD also mentioned that a new tagline for competition was solicited to mark the competition’s 10th anniversary. Lukhele said a number of potential taglines were submitted by pupils from various schools and the winning tagline was “10 Years of Flawless Music”. He further presented the pupil who came up with the tagline, Thandolwethu Mamba of KaBoyce High School, with E1, 000 cash. Lukhele announced that a team from the Bank will be strategically placed at the competition venues to help with the opening of Siyakhula Savings Account. “This account is a product for children, which is aimed at inculcating the culture of saving from an early age. During the competition you can open an account instantly without having to visit a SwaziBank branch,” he said. Under Secretary in the Ministry of Education & Training Macanjana Motsa said the ministry supported the Bank’s vision in sponsoring the competition. “The vast experience accumulated since the inception of this activity over the years is admirable. We commend the Bank for this invaluable sponsorship,” she said. The competition started on Saturday 7th of June 2014 and finished on Sunday 22nd of June 2014. Engungwini Newsletter 9 ENGUNGWINI Wellness Column MISTAKES SEPARATED OR DIVORCED PARENTS MAKE Breaking up is hard to do, and it may be especially hard for kids. Kids of separated parents can feel they’ve been hit the hardest by the end of their parents’ relationship. Some are asked to broker peace between warring exes, even as they are grieving the loss of a parent who has abruptly moved out. Others must deal with parents who suddenly can’t cope with everyday tasks, like making dinner or helping with homework. Many children carry the battle scars of divorce well into adulthood, wounds that never needed to be inflicted in the first place. But broken-up spouses can help stop the damage by managing their own behavior before the ink dries on the divorce papers. Family and divorce expert M. Gary Neuman, LMHC, gives exes pointers on how to split up without emotionally destroying their kids. 10 Engungwini Newsletter 1. Don’t make your child the messenger “Too many parents attempt to communicate through their children,” Neuman says, “which causes undue emotional stress on them and forces them to negotiate a situation their own parents could not handle”. Email is an excellent tool nowadays to communicate with your exspouse. It allows you to specifically discuss the practicalities of raising your child without detouring into negative areas and opening old wounds. It also provides a recorded message, admissible into court, so parents tend to be more careful when using it. “If you want or need to speak with your ex over the phone or in person, be focused and stay on task, and most important, don’t swallow the bait if he or she descends into anger. Simply say, ‘I appreciate your feelings, but I am here to discuss our child’s school assignment.’ Take the high road. “Your child’s emotional health depends on it.” 2. ... or your therapist. “Teenagers like to feel in control, and divorce turns their world upside down,” Neuman says. “Don’t fall into the trap of sharing divorce details or your angry feelings about your ex with your older kids. Their own anxiety and need for control causes them to be ‘understanding’ of what you’re going through, but you need to be the parent. Get outside help for yourself, get therapy if necessary, and maintain those boundaries. Making your child your cohort is wrong and does them damage.” 3. Try to “get” your kid. “Kids need to feel as if they are understood,” Neuman says, and after a divorce their feelings may be in turmoil. “Listen to them. Don’t tell them what to think. And it might be difficult, but never criticize your ex, it’s a criticism of your child, who, of course, is 50% of your ex-husband or wife. Respond specifically to what they are telling you. Say, ‘It sounds like you are feeling sad/ mad/upset about meeting your dad’s new girlfriend, is that right?’ As a parent, you don’t have to have a solution. You just need to hear them. “And don’t editorialize. You can suggest your child write down his feelings and share them with your ex, but only if the child wants to do so. Stay trained on your child’s feelings, not yours. Healing comes through a loving connection and from feeling understood.” 4. Avoid the third degree. “I tell parents to treat their child’s weekend away with their ex-spouse as if the child has just visited an aunt or uncle,” Neuman says. “Saying nothing will leave your child stressed, as if he must compartmentalize both worlds and tiptoe around this other experience. On the other hand, grilling the child puts him squarely in the middle, which is an impossible position emotionally. So ask your kid fun and general questions, which diffuses tension. And then let it go.” By Eunice Malaza News ENGUNGWINI SILULU PERSONAL LOAN REVAMPED T HE Silulu Personal Loan Account has been revamped to assist existing and new customers who have bonds with the Bank to access loans to cater for needs such as school fees, renovations and acquisition of new furniture. Speaking at the product launch, the then Acting Managing Director Babhekile Matsebula attributed the restructuring of the product to the Bank’s willingness to listen to its customers’ needs and suggestions and strive to meet these. She said the ever changing and demanding socio-economic status of the world brought challenges to life hence the need for good and appropriate financial products and services. “It is on that premise that as a financial institution we always have to be ahead in the provision of appropriate banking solutions and services to meet the ever growing needs of our present and prospective customers,” said Matsebula. In his presentation, Executive Manager Operations Enock Mavimbela mentioned that Silulu Personal Loan was tailormade for customers who have urban housing loans with the Bank. He said this was a re-advance facility whereby a customer can borrow the difference between the current market value of the property and the balance remaining on the housing loan. For instance, if a customer has a balance of E100, 000 on his/her housing loan and the market value of the house or property is E400, 000, he/she is eligible to borrow up to E300, 000 (the difference) subject to ability to repay. Mavimbela further stated that the maximum repayment period was now aligned with the remainder of repayment period for the principal housing loan. For instance, if a customer had eight years remaining to repay housing loan, the repayment period of the Silulu Personal Loan will be eight years. “However, clients are at liberty to repay the loan over a shorter period than allowed,” said Mavimbela. On new customers who would like to access this facility, Mavimbela said bond-free properties can be bonded to the Bank to access this loan product. Engungwini Newsletter 11 ENGUNGWINI News 6 TRAINED IN CUSTOMER RELATIONS SIX staff members were trained in Customers Relations Management during a workshop by SADC-DFRC in May 2014. The workshop, which was attended by participants from other financial services organisations, was held at the Happy Valley Resort & Casino from May 14 to May 16, 2014. SwaziBank staff members who attended the workshop were Makhosazana Shongwe, Nkosinathi Silombo, Simiso Masuku, Phumlani Gama, Thabsile Hlophe and Sifiso Masinga. SwaziBank Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele officially closed the workshop and handed out certificates to participants. Speaking during the closing ceremony, Lukhele said regular training was important because customers were now more knowledgeable, demanding and also aware of their rights. He said customers are the lifeblood of any organization - be it a global corporation with thousands of employees and a multibillion dollar turnover or a sole trader with a handful of regular customers. “As service providers, customer service is our differentiating factor, one that puts us on the competitive edge if executed effectively and efficiently,” he said. 12 Engungwini Newsletter “Our ability to build long lasting relationships with our customers ensures repeat business and success of institutions. By forming individualised relationships with customers, we aim at improving customer satisfaction and maximizing profits.” Nkosinathi Silombo receives his certificate from SwaziBank MD Zakhele Lukhele. Makhosazana Shongwe receives her certificate. Lukhele said through that process, we are able to identify the most profitable customers and provide them with the highest level of service. He also mentioned the need to provide employees with the necessary information and processes to know, understand and identify customers, and effectively build relationships between their company and its customer base. The MD further said Customer Relationship Management can have a major impact on an organization through shifting of focus from product to customer and streamlining the offer to what the customer requires, not what the organization can make. “We want to integrate our customers in our business operations and form a relationship that is deeper and wider than the traditional ‘arms-length’ supplier-customer relationship,” said Lukhele. “Therefore, our customers have become our integral and most important stakeholder which influences our bottom line at the end of the day.” Phumlani Gama receives his certificate. Thabsile Hlophe receives her certificate. Simiso Masuku gets his certificate from the MD. Sifiso Masinga receives his certificate. ENGUNGWINI ELECTRONIC BANKING DIVISION TEAM Profile Genius Sihlongonyane Electronic Banking Manager Roman Dlamini Electronic Banking Officer Pholile Mndzebele ELECTRONIC BANKING DIVISION A new department known as Electronic Banking Division has been established within the Bank. The division was created primarily to oversee the Bank’s electronic banking offerings and chart the way forward as the Bank ventures into the world of electronic banking. In an interview with Engungwini News, Electronic Banking Manager, Genius Sihlongonyane, had the following to say; Engungwini News (EN): What are the core responsibilities for the division? Genius Sihlongonyane (GS): The new debit card is the first product that the department is introducing, with more to come in line with the Bank’s strategy to improve its electronic channels offerings. The core responsibilities for the department are card production, reconciliation, fraud monitoring, chargebacks and handling customer queries. EN: What are the advantages of the new debit card to the customer? GS: The key advantages of the new debit card are the ability to transact anywhere in the world through MasterCard supported Point of Sales (POS) terminals and Auto Teller Machines (ATMs), and also the improved security on the Chip card versus the previous cards we had. Also the safety of not carrying cash will be a plus for our customers. EN: What are the advantages of the new debit card to the Bank? GS: The Bank will now be able to retain and acquire more Neliswa Dlamini Thembumenzi Mamba Nomsa Dlamini customers through this new product. Previously our customers were multi banked due to services offered by other banks. EN: How many transactions on Merchant POS are allowed per day? GS: Customers are allowed a maximum of eight transactions per day using POS which are also tied to the daily limit to reduce fraud. EN: In the event a debit card fails to transact at POS, what would you advise customers to do? GS: Debit cards fail due to several reasons mainly unavailability of network to connect to the host system for authorisation of the transaction. Customers should mainly request tellers to check on the network for the POS and then try to do the transaction again. As a bank we have improved our networks to be able to handle more transactions at a faster speed and such occurrences have been reduced. Also, customers should call our hotline number +268 24095555 to report problems which we can then trace and resolve. EN: What future plans does your division have? GS: Future products are in the pipeline and will include completion of the MasterCard product by rolling out our own POS, pre-paid services, cellphone and internet banking, and also partnerships with other companies to improve the SwaziBank footprint. This will help improve customer experience with SwaziBank through improved customer services in the branches and allowing customers to do other transactions electronically. Engungwini Newsletter 13 ENGUNGWINI Customer Service Column MEASURING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION C ustomer satisfaction is quite a complex issue and there is a lot of debate and confusion about what exactly is required and how to go about it. With the phenomenal increase in the country’s population and the increased demand of banking services, speed, service quality and customer satisfaction are key differentiators for each bank’s future success. Major overall satisfaction measure consists of four subscales; • General satisfaction – you feel happy recommending the bank to a friend. • Trust – you trust the staff at your branch to do what is best for customers. • Reliability – requests are carried out right first time. • Professionalism – staff have knowledge to deal with any queries customers have. 14 Engungwini Newsletter It is far more difficult to measure the level of performance and satisfaction when it comes to the intangible expectations. One of the ways to help obtain loyal customers is by having products and services that are so good that there is very little chance that the customer requirements will not be met. Of course, one of the difficulties in understanding true customer requirements is that the customer can and will change them without notice or excuse. Having a good recovery process for a dissatisfied customer is a very vital process for any service organization. Customer satisfaction measurement helps to promote an increased focus on customer outcomes and stimulate improvements in the work practices and processes used within the Bank. However, there is a great deal of discussion and disagreement in the literature about the distinction between service quality and satisfaction. The service quality school view satisfaction as an antecedent of service quality, satisfaction with a number of individual transactions “decay” into an overall attitude towards service quality. The satisfaction school holds the opposite view that assessments of service quality lead to an overall attitude towards the service that they call satisfaction. We can recognise where we need to make changes to create improvements and determine if these changes - after implementation - have led to increased customer satisfaction. “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve” so says Lord William Thomson Kelvin. By Simiso Masuku ENGUNGWINI Insurance Column THE BANCASSURANCE DISTRIBUTION FRAMEWORK OF SWAZIBANK Integrative/ Generalist Model he Bank uses the integrative or generalist distribution model. This is the non-risk participatory distribution channel of ‘corporate agency’, wherein the Bank staff is trained to appraise and sell the insurance products to customers. T Here the Bank as an institution acts as a corporate agent for insurance products at a fee or commission. This diversifies the Bank’s income stream away from just retail banking to a more stable revenue base. A corporate agent is an entity that is empowered to function as a go-between for various types of businesses. The Bank, therefore, has received specifically assigned rights and privileges from the insurers (Metropolitan Swaziland and SRIC) to conduct business on their behalf. Among the several functions assigned as a corporate agent is the ability to handle financial matters on behalf of the client. The insurance activity is deeply integrated with the Bank’s processes. Insurance products are distributed by lending units and branch staff, supported by specialised insurance advisers from the Insurance Business Unit (IBU) for more sophisticated products. Theoretically, this offers “One Stop Banking” and requires extensive training of staff. Bank staff is supposed to know details of all the insurance products on offer. Staff is expected to follow the laid down underwriting guidelines for each product and when in doubt consult with IBU for the necessary support. Insurance products are fully integrated in the Bank’s range of loan products and the trend is for staff to sell a growing number of insurance products that are becoming further removed from its core business, e.g. funeral, health, or non-life products. Premium is collected by the Bank from customers’ accounts held in that bank. New business data entry is mainly through the Bank branches and lending units. The workflow between the Bank and the insurance companies is monitored by the IBU. Bank Employees: ank employees, particularly front line officers, are important when it comes to distribution. When they become “passive” insurance sales agents or do not actively generate leads, then the bancassurer’s potential can be severely impeded. However, if Bank employees are used as “active” centres of influence to refer warm leads to IB, production volumes can be very high and profitable to the B Bank. Bank managers at head office and branch level have a decisive position to play in this regard - to cultivate the culture of cross selling and also motivate staff to sell the bundled products. Cultural issues in distribution ankers and Insurers often come from different business cultures. There may be differences in the way of thinking and business approaches. These differences create a communication and implementation problem in bancassurance operations. Banks are traditionally demand-driven organizations with a reactive selling philosophy. On the other hand, insurance organizations are usually need-driven and have an aggressive selling philosophy. It has generally been observed that this friction is counterproductive in the case of SwaziBank. Since this is a crucial factor for the success of the business venture, it has to be confronted. Cultural differences between banking and insurance industries must be understood, respected and lived with in order for the bancassurance venture to succeed. This calls for a very strong commitment by all stakeholders. This commitment must be continuously conveyed to all Bank employees. The next issue will look at how cross selling can impact positively on the overall performance of the Bank. Matsebula said a Current Account came with many benefits such as overdrafts and enables one to make payments by cheque than to carry large amounts of money which was unsafe. “My advice would be that continue making regular deposits into your Current Accounts,” she said. He noted that each of the three retirees had served the Bank for more than 30 years. “They are leaving with a wealth of knowledge and history about the Bank. I thank them for serving diligently without disciplinary issues and misunderstandings,” said the MD. Nhlangano Branch Manager Christopher Nkambule said he worked well with Nhlabatsi and Ndzinisa, and further wished them success in their individual projects they would be doing during their retirement. Executive Manager Finance Zanele Dlamini said Fakudze had continued to be a dedicated employee yet energy levels tend to drop when a person approaches retirement. Master of Ceremonies (MC), Enock Mavimbela, warned the retirees to avoid risky projects and partnerships with people they did not know very well. Nhlabatsi, who took early retirement as she was due to retire in 2016, thanked the Bank for helping her look after her children. She said she would focus on her piggery business during retirement. Fakudze said she would rest and travel during retirement and not worry about income generating projects because she had invested well in property. Ndzinisa said he will do a lot of farming during his retirement. Engungwini Newsletter 17 ENGUNGWINI Then Acting MD, Zakhele Lukhele, making his remarks. Speaking at Ubombo Country Club on Wednesday 14th of August 2013 during a Networking Session between Bank officials and customers, SwaziBank Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele, who was acting MD at time, said the Bank had the funds to finance more farmers than it presently does. He told current and potential customers from the Lubombo region that SwaziBank had numerous products and services which they could utilize. He mentioned that Siphofaneni Branch had recently been upgraded from being an agency to a fully-fledged branch. “This means Siphofaneni Branch now opens every day except for Sundays unlike before when it opened only on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays,” he said. 18 Engungwini Newsletter Manager Motor Vehicle Finance Mfanafuthi Mabuza speaking at the event. He also stated that the Bank was looking at possibilities of establishing additional branches in the country if the demand was there. Lukhele was accompanied by, amongst others, Executive Manager Marketing Lindiwe Shongwe, Executive Manager Corporate Business Nozizwe Mulela, Senior Manager Insurance Business Robinson Hlophe, Agribusiness Manager Bhekizwe Maziya, SMME Manager Lucky Lukhele, Motor Vehicle Finance Manager Mfanafuthi Mabuza, Assistant Manager Insurance Business Mduduzi Hlophe and Head of Foreign Exchange at the time and now Mbabane Commercial Branch Manager Simanga Motsa. Making a presentation at Ubombo Country Club during a Networking Session between Bank officials and customers, Maziya said farmers can diversify into dairy farming and vegetables, for instance. He assured the gathering that the Bank was ready to finance farmers who diversified and not only sugarcane farmers. “We also finance other forms of farming like dairy and vegetable farming because we have the knowledge and experience in such,” he said. Maziya noted that a majority of farmers financed by the Bank were sugarcane farmers. “We have got vast experience in sugarcane ENGUNGWINI SwaziBank Networks nch Manager The audience listening to the various presentations by Bank akes his remarks. management. farming. He advised farmers to approach the Bank for assistance in infrastructure acquisition or development. “We say come forward and we discuss how this can be done so that your yields increase,” he said. Maziya said SwaziBank recognizes and abides with Government’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, hence its commitment to finance any form of farming. “Come to SwaziBank for finance to do agricultural business. Speaking during a networking session at Ubombo Country Club, SwaziBank SMME Manager Lucky Lukhele said the Bank had a fully-fledged unit which provided numerous services to SMMEs. He said SwaziBank offered SMMEs bridging finance, business loans, overdrafts and Small Scale Enterprises (SSE) Scheme. He further explained that overdrafts, however, were only for customers who have Current Accounts with the Bank. Lukhele said finance was granted when there is 100 percent security which can be in the form of land, structure or even cash. He quickly stated that in the event collateral was insufficient, the Bank does not reject a customer but engages him to ascertain how much security is available. “If you have no security, we do not turn you back, but we require that you provide minimal security and then top it up to required amount simultaneously as you repay the loan,” said Lukhele. Meanwhile, Motor Vehicle Finance Manager Mfanafuthi Mabuza said his department was responsible for purchasing vehicles either for commercial or domestic purposes. He said the Bank also provided finance for equipment such as cane loaders. Mabuza said the Bank financed vehicles from new to 10-year-old models. Mduduzi Hlophe, the Insurance Business Assistant Manager, indicated the importance of insuring investments such as vehicles, trucks, houses and household goods. “It is important to insure so that in case of an accident, you are covered and compensated to enable you to repair or replace your damaged vehicle,” he said. Hlophe also urged customers to apply for the Lungisa Funeral Plan, a funeral cover provided by SwaziBank. Head of Foreign Exchange Simanga Motsa assured customers that Bank provided international currency within three minutes, describing this as the fastest turnaround time in the country. And, nine Wellness Representatives were also recognized and rewarded for their contribution to staff wellness. The Guest of Honour at the event was the Minister of Finance, Martin Dlamini. Speaking at the event, the Minister noted that the Bank has continued to deliver on its mandate as expected and urged the Board, Management and staff to continue the good work. He said Government expected SwaziBank to contribute towards Government’s mission to see the country attain First World Status by 2022. “I am happy to observe that SwaziBank is a major player in as far as developing the economy is concerned, and I have no doubt that the Bank is capable of contributing towards making the country achieve first world status,” he said. Dlamini further congratulated the Bank for winning international professional awards, mainly because of its commitment to economic development and its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives to empower the community it operates in. He noted that successful CSI initiatives by the Bank were evident such as the SwaziBank Cup, SwaziBank Schools Music 22 Competitions and annual donations to organisations that promote entrepreneurship and take care of the terminally ill. The Minister then warned against complacency, saying that the awards were a challenge to the Bank to ensure that its products and services are commensurate with the awards. “It is, therefore, vital that your customers receive quality service that will demonstrate beyond any reasonable doubt that you deserve these awards,” said Dlamini. Speaking at the same event, Acting Managing Director Babhekile Matsebula said 2013 was a year full of challenges for the Bank, having started it with the demise of the MD Stanley Matsebula. She said, however, the Bank was able to pull through the challenges and continued with the strategy to have all branches upgraded and refurbished to have the same look and feel “so that our customers experience the same environment irrespective of which branch they visit”. She said the recently refurbished Mbabane Commercial Branch was already opened and the Bank had renovated Simunye, Manzini, Matsapha and Mbabane Main branches in recent years. She said this exercise, although capital-intensive, would continue to other branches. Engungwini Newsletter Staff Awards ENGUNGWINI LONG SERVICE AWARDEES – 2013 10 YEARS 1. Hloniphile Nkambule 2. This follows the expiry of a threeyear SwaziBank Cup tripartite agreement between SwaziBank, National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) and Premier League of Swaziland (PLS). Speaking during the SwaziBank Cup Prize Presentation held at the Royal Swazi Sun Convention Centre on Thursday 10th of April 2014, Lukhele said: “I am pleased to announce that the SwaziBank Cup sponsorship will continue and a new agreement whose details will be announced at a later stage will be entered into with the relevant football stakeholders – the National Football Association of Swaziland and the Premier League of Swaziland.” The MD mentioned that the Bank remains committed to contributing towards the development of football in the country as one way of ploughing back to the community it operates in. “The SwaziBank Cup is one of the Bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects that it is proud of,” he said. Lukhele said the Bank was deeply concerned with the continuous malfunctioning of flood lights at the Somhlolo National Stadium during 26 matches. He noted that this unfortunate scenario reared its head in 2012 and once again this year during the “Kusenjalo…Washa-Thu!!” edition. “As a sponsor we are very concerned about this, especially because people have to pay twice to watch the same match when it is replayed,” he said. He said the Bank was grateful to the Minister of Sports, Culture & Youth Affairs David Ngcamphalala for having taken a personal interest to have the problem resolved and the tournament proceeded without further hiccups. “However, we sincerely hope that those responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the stadium will ensure that this issue is resolved once and for all for the benefit of football,” he said. Lukhele said the introduction of the SwaziBank Cup Under 20 tournament added a very good and important dimension to the tournament. The event was attended by Minister Ngcamphalala, NFAS President Adam Mthethwa and Miss Swaziland 2014 Samukelisiwe Magagula, amongst others. The inaugural tournament was held this year and it was played concurrently with the main SwaziBank Cup “Kusenjalo…. Washa-Thu!!”. SwaziBank Managing Director Zakhele Lukhele pronounced during the Under 20 tournament prize presentation ceremony that the tournament will continue. “It pleases me to announce that the Bank will continue sponsoring the Under 20 knockout tournament for the next three years,” he said during the prize presentation ceremony held at the Bank’s Auditorium on Tuesday 8th of April 2014. He said the Bank was pleased to have sponsored the tournament and it became such a success without any hindrances and challenges on its inception. “All over the world, people want to see development in soccer and sports in general, hence as a bank we saw it fit to sponsor a Under 20 tournament as a contribution towards the development of soccer at grassroots level,” he said. Lukhele noted that without proper development at grassroots level, senior squads, such as the national team (Sihlangu), would always face challenges when it comes to achieving positive results. “We are, therefore, proud to say that as a bank, we are pleased to be a part of development of this kind in the country,” he said. “It added some diversity to the SwaziBank Cup tournament as a whole and we look forward to working together with football stakeholders and Government in the development of football in the country.” The MD further congratulated the first SwaziBank Under 20 champions, Manzini Sundowns. “I witnessed the final this past Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium between Sundowns and Malanti Chiefs, and it was entertaining, full of zeal, determination, talent and skill,” said Lukhele, adding: “The way the young players performed during that match brings hope that our football is on a growth path.” PRIZE BREAKDOWN Best Goalkeeper Lwethu Simelane (Manzini Sundowns) E2, 000 + Trophy Top Goalscorer Siboniso Mncina (Malanti Chiefs) E2, 400 + Trophy Player of the Series Senzo Shongwe (Manzini Sundowns) E3, 000 + Trophy Runners-Up Malanti Chiefs - E12, 600 Champions Manzini Sundowns - E27, 000 + Trophy Manzini Sundowns Coach Penuel Malinga receives his team’s first prize cheque and trophy.
