G-FORCE 1800 (18M) PERFORMANCE CRUISING CATAMARAN
G-Force 18M Design Philosophy
The first G‐Force design, the 1400 (14m) caused a storm of interest when she so convincingly won the Brisbane
to Gladstone multihull race in 2009 and caught the imagination of those multihull lovers who burn for that,
now almost lost, perfect balance of pure, fast, but comfortable sailing which only a light efficient design can
achieve.
The G‐Force 1500 (15M) was the next design in the range. Not surprisingly, a French sailor led the charge from
this interest and wanted a larger version with a little more accommodation, just that extra double cabin without
upsetting the same blistering dynamics and performance of the 1400. The G-Force 1500 “Mojo”, launched in
2011 from the Noosa Marine boatbuilding factory at Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, has caused even more of a
stir with its striking good looks, blistering performance with early race results, and now proven cruising ability,
with the boat now having cruised from Sunshine Coast to Sydney for the 2011 new years eve celebrations and
2011/2012 summer and then all the way back up the east coast of Australia onwards to Indonesia where she is
currently cruising the Indonesian islands.
Interest in a larger version again was inevitable. The G‐Force 1800 (18M) was engineered to fill this interest and
its dynamics remain similar to the smaller G‐Force designs, waterline beam to length ratio, power to weight,
and her lean mean attitude guarantee similar performance numbers but the luxury of length adds that little
X‐Factor. The G-Force 1800 is an ocean-going performance cruising and race-able catamaran for those seeking
that balance between speed, comfort, luxury, and proven design pedigree, all in an 18M or approximately 60ft
size range. For example, accommodation is in keeping with a luxury cat of this size but with a clean “minimalist”
approach, where layout choices are kept to the “light is best” principle, but that said she will be very quick yet
safe for offshore cruising and long distance, short-handed sailing.
About Julian Griffiths and Noosa Marine
Julian Griffiths, owner of Noosa Marine, personally has over 25 years boatbuilding experience, and has been
involved with and/or managed personally the build of over 35 boats, ranging from small high performance
dinghies to large luxury yachts. Julian completed his boatbuilding apprenticeship at Norman Wright and Sons at
Brisbane, one of QLD’s most well respected and sought-after boatbuilding companies of its time.
Noosa Marine’s most recent large yacht build and launch to date was the Schionning Designs G-Force 1500
Catamaran “Mojo”. Mojo was successfully and smoothly launched in November 2011 on the Noosa River, and
quickly developed the reputation as being the most well finished and successfully built and launched G-Force
15M to date.
Within the last 10 years, Julian Griffiths has overseen and personally “hands-on” built not only Mojo, but also
5x Spirited 380 Catamarans, a carbon fibre Leech650 sports boat, 2x Farrier 22 Trimarans, 10x Farrier 33
Trimarans, 2x Schionning Power Catamarans, and numerous other smaller builds.
