Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome
to Berlin! It is 1931, the beginning of
the end in Germany, with the dark
shadow of the Nazis threatening
to engulf all of Europe. But inside
the Kit Kat Klub, life is a cabaret,
with beautiful performers, a lively
orchestra, and an impish Master of
Ceremonies to oversee the eccentric
entertainment.
Cabaret is the iconic story of
American writer Cliff Bradshaw
and his relationship with the
“strange and extraordinary” British
performer Sally Bowles as they
navigate the seedy happenings of the
Kit Kat Klub. With music and lyrics by the award-winning team behind Chicago, Cabaret
is based on stories by Christopher Isherwood and was immortalized by Bob Fosse’s 1972
film adaptation starring Liza Minnelli. A masterful merging of storytelling and song, it will
sweep you into its sizzling, and at times shocking, world – while never quite letting you
forget the ominous reality that looms just outside the cabaret door.

Brian Yorkey, Issaquah native and Pulitzer Prize winning writer and lyricist,
returns to direct this inspired production, with a unique, retrospective
approach to the classic story. Brian Earp (Leo Bloom, The Producers) takes
the spotlight as Cliff Bradshaw, with Billie Wildrick (Carrie Pipperidge,
Rogers and Hammerstein’s Carousel at The 5th Avenue) as Sally
Bowles, and Jason Collins (Sir Francis & Various Others, Around
The World In 80 Days) as the Emcee.

From the Executive Producer and Artistic Director
Composer John Kander and lyricist Fred
Ebb remain one of the greatest teams in
musical history, contributing such musicals
as Chicago and Cabaret to the musical
theatre canon and scoring several films,
including Martin Scorsese’s unforgettable
New York, New York. We are so excited to be
closing out this incredible season with one
of their classic stories.
Set in Berlin in 1931 just as the Nazi party
is beginning to get a foothold, Cabaret
transports us to an era that carries a lot of weight for an audience enlightened
with historical hindsight. But the allure of the entertainment, the conflicts of the
characters, and the existential themes of this story are timeless. It is impossible not to
be seduced by the charming Cliff Bradshaw, the carefree Sally Bowles, and all of their
eccentric companions at the cabaret.
There’s a certain thrill to seeing what a creative team brings to a show like Cabaret,
and director Brian Yorkey’s inspired vision for this production is shaping it into
a show you won’t want to miss. Music Director Tim Symons will lead a live, onstage band in the famous songs of the Kit Kat Klub, and Kathryn Van Meter will
choreograph. Our incredible design team includes Matthew Smucker on Scenic
Design, Alex Berry as Lighting Designer, and Alex Jaeger for costumes.
Cabaret has been interpreted so many different ways, with each generation making
the musical its own. Village Theatre last put on a production of Cabaret in 1995.
Twenty years later, the beloved story will surely resonate in a whole new way. We are
thrilled to welcome you to Village Theatre to experience all of the excitement and
entertainment of this musical classic.

Playing Fair is
a Snow White
story like you’ve
never seen
before. The Rose
Recovery Center
is a secluded teen
rehab facility
where Scarlett
rules supreme over all her patients, that is until
Snow arrives. A kind, mysterious girl with no
memory of who she is or where she’s come
from, Snow begins to turn Scarlett’s perfectly
balanced world upside down. Tensions run
high as the teens try to navigate these new
challenges presented in the real world as well
as in their own minds. Playing Fair is a new
musical drama, written by KIDSTAGE teens,
that tackles the serious issue of mental illness
and puts a modern twist on a familiar story.
