Reducing our carbon footprint . . .
Autosmart Australia has undertaken several reviews to look at reducing our carbon footprint.
One of our greatest initiatives has been to reduce the amount of plastic packaging we buy.
The 20 litre plastic packaging has proved to be
a disposal problem at landfill sites.
Our franchisee network will recover the empty
plastic cubes and send them for refilling. This
has reduced the packaging we need to buy
with the average cube being re-used six times.
This not only reduces our carbon footprint but
yours as well.
We also choose to buy recycled 200 litre drums
when possible and the 1000 litre containers we

empty for refilling.
Some 200 litre barrels we buy products in are
unable to be re-used. Rather than send them
to the tip we pay to have them picked up and
steam cleaned.

Whilst all our products are available in new
packaging, we would ask all our customers to

The Occupational Health and Safety Act states that
“any person who comes into contact with Hazardous Substances must receive training by law”.
Recent legislation has placed a large responsibility
onto the shoulders of the person introducing chemical products into the workplace. The safe handling
of these products and work practices carried out being subject to On-Site Risk Assessments. Autosmart
Australia are fully aware that most of our customers
purchasing products are not chemists and so rely
heavily on their suppliers for information to assist in
the preparation of these assessments. Verbal information, whilst it may be accurate, can be prone to
misinterpretation. Also, the paperwork handed out at
the time of sale can be misplaced.
Autosmart has prepared an introductory course on
Awareness of Hazardous Substances. Incoming employees train on the difference between Dangerous
and Hazardous goods and how to recognise hazardous and non-hazardous products, and also when to
use Personal Protective Equipment.
It is for this reason that we have the Material Safety
Data Sheets for all the products we sell on our Web
Site. For each of these products our customers must
do an On-Site Risk Assessment. On the Web Site are
a full set of the Product Information Charts to help
you conduct your Risk Assessments. These also contain advice on dilutions.
This course also uses training material supplied by
Workcover, giving employers a base on which to
start employee training.
This course has been written so that any employer
can present it and use it as the basis for their Safety
Training for employees. This course is available free
of charge as a service to our customers. Please contact your local distributor for details.

Quick Break and Biodegradable products
on the environment the product must break down
into elements that occur naturally in a healthy
ecosystem.
SUPERHANDS
Over many years Australia has been working towards
cleaner and less polluting work practices. Legislation
has been introduced to protect the environment from
toxic and non degradable waste products. Part of
this protection has been the requirement for businesses to install wash bays with sediment traps and
oil separation systems.
“The invisible glove”. Forms an invisible, dirtrepelling barrier to shield the skin against virtually all
forms of contaminant. Simply rinse away all soiling
without having to use chemicals or abrasives.
For these systems to work the chemical cleaning
products used must be designed to release oil in oil
separators. This type of product has been given the
general term “quick break”.
TWO IN ONE
What does Quick Break mean?
After work cream which can also be used as a barrier
cream. Effective against cutting oils, detergents
and alkalis; helps protect against dermatitis and
chapping. Containing a moisturiser, it is also an
effective after-work cream.
When cleaning a vehicle the soiling that is removed
can contain oils, grease, fuel and other mineral
contaminants. These products do not break down in
the environment and are soil and marine pollutants.
To remove grease and oil from car paintwork and
mechanical parts chemical products are used that
dissolve the oils and make them mix in water,
forming an emulsion. This emulsion is then passed
through the oil separator. For a product to be classed
as “quick break” this emulsion must be temporary
and break down releasing the oils to be skimmed off
in the separator.

What does Biodegradable mean?
Always ensure that the sediment trap is cleaned
regularly and the separator is working correctly.
The products removed from the system must be
disposed of in accordance with local council’s directions.
Barrier Creams
An example of this would be Autowash when
broken down, the alkaline and phosphates residues
promote plant growth. A product that breaks down
completely and leaves no pollutants is said to
biodegrade.

PRE-SPRAYS
Autosmart manufacture a full range of vehicle cleaning
detergents for cleaning in every type or climatic
condition that we encounter in Australia. Ask your local
distributor which product would give the best results in
your area.
TRI-FOAM
This is a product normally manufactured in America.
It consists of three different coloured foams, normally
Red, Blue and Yellow. How do you get different coloured
foams on a car? The answer is quite simple. You put
such a large amount of dye into the product that even
after dilution it colours the water and hence the foam.
So normally the three products are identical other than
just the different coloured dye. These products are
popular with customers who enjoy seeing the different
colours of foam. For this reason, tri-foams are available
from your local distributor.
ACID WASH
In some areas car-washes have found that no matter
what detergents they use a slight grey film still remains
on the car. When we analyse this it normally consists
of heavy metals such as cadmium and lead. These
have come from car exhausts and other atmospheric
pollutants and are now stuck onto the paint by their
electrons. This dirt is simply removed with a wipe, but
the electron bond will be too strong for detergents to
remove.
So in a touch free car wash the simplest way to remove
this soiling is with a mild acid wash being applied over
the vehicle. Autosmart Acid Wash achieves this without
damaging the vehicles. The phosphoric acid blend not
being as objectionable to people or equipment as other
acid products.
RINSE AID
Liquid Chamois. Rinse Aid assists the water to run off a
vehicle. This results in the elimination of water marks.
A gloss enhancer inhibits re-soiling.

Aquawax Cherry. Our most popular wax. This product
is Cherry fragranced and coloured so that the customer
can see and smell it being applied. The car is left with
a glossy streak-free finish. This product is suitable for
all carwash applications.
Aquawax assists in the rinsing of vehicles, leaving a
glossy streak-free finish.
BRUSHWASH
Brushwash has been specially formulated to enhance
the bristle life of a brushwash machine. The product
does not dry out the bristles and has a plasticising
agent to keep bristles soft and supple. This helps stop
the bristles snapping off and scratching vehicles. A full
range of waxes and drying agents are also available.

SOPHISTICUT
The aggression of a cutting compound can be adjusted
by using different density foam pads. If you wish to
increase the cut by using a hard pad, more weight will
be transferred to the compound and hence more cutting aggression. By using a soft pad the aggression will
be reduced. Also by using a 6” pad, a different cut will
be achieved than by using an 8”. It is for this reason
that Autosmart supplies a full and varied range of pads
to suit high speed buffs, down to low speed variables,
giving our customers a wide and varied choice.
MICROFIBRE CLOTH
For maximum performance, use Restore Microfibre
Cloth to quickly wipe the car and remove any residue.
BOAT/FIBREGLASS RESTORATION
Fibreglass can appear flat and dull. This is caused by
sun damage to the gel-coat. R6 is designed to remove
the oxidised layer whilst burnishing the surface to a
high shine. Once prepared an application of Platinum
polish will restore that new boat shine.
For removal of scratches, oxidation and surface
defects. Used by hand or machine, ideal for the removal
of denibbing marks.
Each product is fast to use and designed for minimal sling and an excellent finish. The added lubicity within the
Restore products eliminates the need to add water, increasing speed of use.
Aluminium Cleaning
Aluminium is a very soft material that can be easily
marked by aggressive chemical cleaning products. This
normally results in a whitening of the metal. When using
chemicals it should be trialled in a small, inconspicuous
area. The product should be diluted until the desired end
result is achieved. Should the metal be whitened, it can
be remedied using a product such as Autosmart’s Purple
Stuff. Caution: Most modern aluminium wheels have been
coated with a clear lacquer. These must be treated as a
painted surface.
PURPLE STUFF
This product is unique as the fine abrasive compound
is combined with natural wax. So, not only does the
aluminium buff up to a high gloss finish, but it stays
that way for much longer, with the wax preventing
reoxidisation.
BRISK LOW FOAM
Wheel Cleaning Non-Acidic
An acid based cleaner for unlacquered wheels and for
remedial wheel cleaning. Ali both cleans and brightens
the wheels in one action. HF safe.
ALI KING
Robust aluminium and Mag wheel cleaner. Excellent
at removing brake dust and red dust from wheels. HF

A low hazard, sprayable acid wheel cleaner, ideal for
cleaning and renovating all wheel types including plastics, painted and alloys. HF safe.

An excellent non-acid wheel cleaner, recommended
where the use of acids is undesirable.

cleaner with biodegradable, quick break
formulation, leaving a streak-free finish. This
product has been designed for the cleaning of
cars where, due to drought or water restrictions
the council has forbidden the use of a bucket
and sponge. The product is simply sprayed on
to the surface needing cleaning and is wiped
off. No extra water is needed. Not only is the
dirt removed but a wax is applied leaving a
