Now that we have weathered the storm; its time to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Crisp days and cool nights are here, so get outside and do some hiking and biking! Leave the cell phones, DVD’s, iPods and hand held computers: the latest diagnosis says that both young and old are suffering from a severe case of N.D.D. ( Nature Deficit Disorder) Take advantage of the new Purple Dot Trail that goes along the Mount Hope River at Ashford Memorial Park. Or check out the diverse Last Green Valley opportunities to explore some interesting areas during the month long “Walktober” celebration. The Rec. Commission meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Recreation office. We are interested in your input and involvement! Please call or stop in at a meeting if you have an idea, a program or a project you would like considered. Check out all the special events, trips and programs your Rec. Dept has to offer, and be sure to mark your calendar and register early so you don’t miss out! Remember the Benefits of Recreation are Endless! Sherry York - Director Ashford Parks and Recreation Commission has had a change in leadership. We are very grateful to Tom Paul our chairman for the past 5 yrs. His dependability and team leadership has benefited the commission and the community in countless ways. Tom was most often found behind the scenes doing what ever it took to deliver the program at hand; be it a Dunk Tank, Halloween Obstacle Course, Frog Jumping Contest, BBQ for 200 people, or sometimes a lengthy difficult meeting. Tom was there to see it through. He led by example and was not afraid to get his hands dirty. His patience, competence, (excluding ice skating) and innate sense of good and right will be difficult to replace. Our new chairperson is John Boiano. He has already served on the Commission for 3 years and knows our business. He brings to the position plenty of energy, and new ideas. In 2002, John resigned from a 14 year career as a sales and marketing manager at Kaman Music Corp. Now he presents seminars and trainings for teachers and students on social issues. He is a musician, and is proficient on ice skates and with computers and websites. Please engage him in conversation about what you would John Boiano Produced by the Chronicle www.thechronicle.com www.thechronicle.com President Lucy B.
