Le Dejeuner
Manet’s painting and the various interpretations throughout the ages
are the Inspiration for our 21 st century Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe in
urban settings...
J.Seward Johnson
At the time Manet’s painting was presented for
the first time, it caused great disturbance, but it
was this painting that inspired many other great
painters to give their vision. Claude Monet included a portrait of Gustave Courbet in his own version of Le déjeuner sur l’herbe.
Manet’s painting inspired Picasso to a cycle of numerous paintings and drawings. Many photographers and cineasts were equally inspired by this
painting.
Today, roughly 150 years later the Belgian artists
and silversmiths Thalen & Thalen create their Le
déjeuner sur l’herbe. They will create and organize
an event on a limited number of sites, where a
very limited group of people can participate in a
dejeuner sur l’herbe setting….
Under various circumstances on a 20 foot long
table they will create a table setting in pure silver
for twelve persons in a design never been seen
before….
Three chefs and their team will be participating to
create food especially designed to play with the
silver items….
Wines from exquisite vineyards will be tasted in
the silver beakers.
