Season 4/5 Pre Vizsla helmet ear cap How‐To STUFF YOU MIGHT NEED: 
2‐ Properly size all‐threads with double nuts or a bolt small enough to set the head in the ear cap pivot post. 
2– wing nuts that fit your all‐thread or bolt 
Epoxy pu y for se ng the bolts/all‐thread in the ear caps. 
2 part epoxy to set the alignment dowels in the ear caps. 
2– small diameter wooden dowels (Ear cap alignment dowels) 
A drill 
An assortment of drill bits 
Some acrylic cra paint 
A sharpie 
A square 
Fingers 
Eyeballs 

Some form of celebratory drink 1 STEP 1: Trim the neck hole and sand any sharp edges so you can work inside the helmet without risking injury. STEP 2: Test fit the ear caps and double check the level of awesomeness you are about to achieve. (These ear caps antennae have been installed for reference. It is perfectly acceptable to install these a er the ear caps moun ng is finished.) STEP 3: Drill a hole in the center of each ear cap pivot point on the sides of the helmet. STEP 4: Drill a hole at the bo om and slightly off‐center in the deepest sec on of the ear cap rim. Make sure that you only go about 1/4” deep so as not to go through the other side and ruin the outer finish of the ear. This hole is for your alignment dowel. (I use Resin dowels, wood is fine.) 2 STEP 5: Drill a hole slightly larger than the head of your bolt or the nuts that you intend to secure your all‐thread with in the very center of the ear cap pivot post. Make sure that you only drill as deeply as you wish to set the head of your bolt or the nuts on your all‐
thread. The deeper you drill, the more sturdy your mount will be, but make sure that you do not drill too deeply and penetrate the outer surface of the ear cap. STEP 6: Insert the dowels and mark them along the inner face of the ear cap. Meas‐
ure about 1/4” from this mark and trim the dowels to length. (They only need to protrude about 1/4” into the side of the helmet to limit rota on.) Using some two part epoxy, glue the dowels in place in the ear caps. Insert the bolts or all‐thread into the holes you drilled into the ear cap pivot post. Epoxy these in place making sure that they are perfectly square with the rear face of the ear cap. Go make a sandwich and check your Face‐
book, allowing the epoxy to cure. STEP 7: Fit the ear caps on the sides of the helmet pay‐
ing special a en on to the alignment and rota‐
on. Once you are sa sfied with the alignment, make a small mark on both the ear cap and the side of the helmet. This will be your alignment for the standard rota on. (Now is a good me to mark your ear caps as le and right as the alignment dowels will really mess with your head should you accidentally get them mixed up a er the following steps….) 3 STEP 8: Place a dab of acrylic cra paint on the alignment dowel and very gently align the ear cap according to your mark. Press the ear cap steadily against the helmet in order to leave a precise and uniform impression of paint on the moun ng surface. STEP 8: Centering your bit in the paint mark, drill a hole the same size as your dowel in the ear cap moun ng surface of the helmet. Your ear caps will now mount in a fixed posi on. STEP 9: If your bolt or all‐thread is too long and runs the possibility of skewering your precious head inside the helmet, now is the me to mount the ear caps and mark the length on the inside of the helmet. Be sure to allow enough thread for a flat wash‐
er while taking into considera‐
on how easy it will be to get your wing nut started. 4 STEP 10 (opƟonal): Should you wish to allow your ear caps to rotate forward for the “range finder” effect, simply place the earcap in it’s center and rotate it to the desired angle. Reach inside the gap between the ear cap and the helmet and mark the helmet where the align‐
ment dowel ends up. Remove the ear and sketch an arc between the hole you drilled earlier and the new mark. Make sure to use the arc of the ear cap moun ng surface as a guide. Cut this arced slot with a rotary tool or by drilling consecu ve holes all along the arc and then cleaning up the slot with a proper diameter round file. Step 11:
