Graduation
2010
District Superintendent Dr.
Patrick Savini greets guests
as he walks into the stadium
to oversee his last commencement ceremony at Sussex
Tech. Dr. Savini arrived at
Sussex Tech in 1991 to be the
school’s first principal after it
changed to full-time status. He
was instrumental in overseeing the successful conversion
of the school into a full-time
technical high school.
Dr. Savini will retire in
August following 27 years
with the district. With love, the
Class of 2010 asked Dr. Savini
to be their graduation speaker.
As usual, his wit and humor
did not fail the students.

(note date change)
Several business students from Sussex Technical High School attended the 2010
National Leadership Conference of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) which
took place from May 5-9 in Anaheim, California. BPA is the leading career and technical
student organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office
administration, information technology, and other related career fields. State winners of
various BPA contests qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference.
Proudly representing Delaware and bringing home a second place plaque for desktop
publishing was senior Cartina Church. Cartina had to design three assignments. Other
Sussex Tech students who participated in the conference were Megan Cannon, Drew
Crouse, Josh Ritter and Ryan Fitzgerald. Megan and Ryan were recognized with a Torch
Award Ambassador Pin, the highest national link, for their service to their community. They
were accompanied to California by business teachers Sabrina Neal and Frank Makray.
In between competitions, every attendee of the national conference this year had the
opportunity to spend a day at Knott’s Berry Amusement Park, seeing the sights and riding
the rides. Students could also visit the Expo and College Fair that featured close to 30
businesses and schools to connect with.
Sussex Technical High School students attending the National Leadership
Conference of the Business Professionals of America were, left to right: teacher Frank
Makray, Megan Cannon, Ryan Fitzgerald, Cartina Church (holding her national second
place plaque), Drew Crouse, teacher Sabrina Neal, and Josh Ritter.

Health Community Walk
Members of the baseball team were
just some of the many athletes who
participated in the walk.
Sussex Tech pulled an
upset by capturing the
Coalition Cup away from
Woodbridge when it had the
most students and staff
participate in the walk.
Raffle winners at the walk were: PACTT staff member
Sol Feliciano who received a paid vacation day; student Jeffrey Clavette, a Wii; student Michael Mather,
an Ipod Shuffle; and PACTT baby Stella Carmen (held
by mom Kristin), a week’s free tuition.
JROTC cadets lead exercises before the walk.
Members of the Electronics class
(below) took a few minutes away
from the Hamfest (also being held
the same day at Sussex Tech) to
participate in the Community Walk.

Juniors Produce
$1,000 Commercial...
Media Broadcasting juniors Savannah Maher and
Destiny Williams produced a 30-second video commercial

the winning video in the “Get Up and Do Something” contest, sponsored by the Delaware Division of Public Health.
It will be considered for possible airing in the Division’s
“Get Up and Do Something” campaign.
Savannah and Destiny received their award while also
being honored at a Blue Rocks baseball game in late May.
They are shown with their check and Media Broadcasting
teacher Gary Conaway.
