Engage celebrates the diversity of cultures, through exhibitions, workshops, activities, food and performances. Engage provides an opportunity to learn about other cultures, and to experience the diversity of customs and traditions that are on our doorstep. There will be a range of community groups showcasing the amazing mix of talent and cultures in South Gloucestershire. Opening Ceremony There will be a spectacular opening ceremony hosted by the chair of the council Councillor Erica Williams and TV Celebrity Sherrie Eugene. The ceremony will commence with a procession which will be led by a Chinese dragon dance to the sounds of traditional Indian Dhol Drummers. Media Zone Visit the media zone which will include a variety of regional TV & community radio broadcasters, including: Made in Bristol TV, Bristol Community Radio and Bradley Stoke Radio, broadcasting live from the venue. Sports Zone Would you like to get more active but not sure how to go about it? Visit the Sports Zone where disabled and people of all abilities can try a range of sports and get active together. There will be experienced sport coaches available all day for all ages and abilities to come and have a go at athletics, judo, family fitness, multi-sports, and table tennis. No pre-booking necessary – just drop in. Rugby Zone To coincide with the IRB 2015 Rugby World Cup, Bristol Rugby Academy is running activities and workshops, including a secondary schools coaching master-class, first team player attendances and book-readings with young people. Eco Zone Get stuck in to a wide variety of environmental themed activities for people of all ages, such as woodwork, nest-box building and painting through pedal power. There will also be opportunities to learn about climate change and Fairtrade, how small changes can make a big difference to the planet. Zone Asia Experience and learn about various traditions from across Asia. Discover Indian customs and traditions such as mehndi (henna tattoo), Rangoli (folk art from India), and sari (South Asian female clothing) workshops. There will also be opportunities to discover and have a go at Chinese calligraphy, origami and Tai Chi demonstrations. Performance Zone Enjoy a variety of dance, music and songs from around the world, including traditional Chinese, African, Indian and Bollywood dance. There will also be cultural dance performances by local young people, and a youth jazz orchestra, plus much more. International Food Zone The International Food Zone offers the chance to experience different flavours and dishes from around the world. The International Food Zone will host a variety of foods including Caribbean, American, English, Chinese, Indian and Polish. Workshops The festival is not just about watching others in action, but having a go yourself. A full programme of workshops is running all day, for a chance to discover and experience something new, such as sari workshops, food demonstrations, a puppet theatre and much more. Zone Asia Experience various Asian traditions, such as Henna, Rangoli, Chinese calligraphy and sari workshops. Eco Zone Get closer to nature with our environmentally friendly Eco Zone.
