Tin Shui Wai is one of the fastest developing regions in Hong Kong. Apart from the densely populated new
town, there is also fantasitic habitat for wildlife -- Hong Kong Wetland Park. The Park comprises a visitor
centre of 10,000 square meters, Wetland Interactive World, and a 60-hectare Wetland Reserve. The Wetland
Reserve is a mitigated wetlands of re-created habitats specially designed for waterbirds and other wildlife,
such as insects, crabs, butterflies and migratory birds.
There are three major exhibition galleries, these are "Living Wetlands", "Human Culture" and "Wetland
Challenge". Visitors are able to gain a better insight into the world of wetlands.
To echo with the World Wetlands Day 2009, Hong Kong
Wetland Park is hosting a series of activities -- the

travel comfortably with Light Rail and MTR Bus to
explore Yuen Long eco-heritage attractions.

Heaven for migratory birds and paradise for bird watchers
Mai Po Nature Reserve lies in the northwestern corner of
Hong Kong and is managed by WWF Hong Kong. Full of
“gei wai” (shallow water shrimp pond), mangrove and
reedbeds, the Reserve is an ideal heaven for migratory birds.

Shui Tau Tsuen and Shui Mei Tsuen
are well known for their heritage sites.
There are historical buildings such as the
traditional Chinese residence, ancestral
halls (Tsz Tong) and study halls. Visitors
may have a stroll around the buildings and
gain a better insight into the history of the
Tang clan, a group of indigenous residents
in Hong Kong.

spots - Nam Sang Wai. Apart from lots
of “gei wai” (shallow water shrimp
pond), fishponds and farmland, there
is also a large stretch of wetland that
provides a natural habitat for many
migratory birds.
If you plan to visit Nam Sang Wai, the
best way to do so is to take a sampan,
the common transport for local residents
and visitors across Shan Pui River for
decades. It is the only place in Hong
Kong where you can take this traditional
form of water-borne transport. Once in
Nam Sang Wai, you will see a diversity
of plants and living creatures, including
Red River Gum, reed, many distinctive
species and fiddler crabs, etc. You
may also find a lot of waterbirds at
the gathering point, which is at the
confluence of Kam Tin River and Shan
Pui River. A great number of waterbirds
such as Little Egret, Great Egret and
Black-faced Spoonbill search for food by
the waterside which makes it a paradise
for bird watchers.
