Please do not over-press the pusher as it could damage the movement. 1. Press one time on the pusher to advance the minute hand one step, along with the mechanically-coupled minute hand. 2. Press and hold the pusher to make the coupled hands go forward until the pusher is released. Pull the crown out to the 2nd position. 2. Turn the crown to set hour and minute hands. 3. When the crown is pushed back to the normal position, the small seconds hand begins to run. 1. Pull the crown out to the 1st position. 2. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to set the date. NOTE: If the date is set between the hours of around 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM, the date may not change on the following day. 3. After the date has been set, push the crown back to the normal position. The chronograph second hand keeps moving continuously for 11 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds after starting. The chronograph can be started and stopped each time Button A is pressed. 2. Pressing Button B resets the chronograph. AFTER REPLACING BATTERY) This procedure should be performed when the chronograph seconds hand does not return to zero position after the chronograph has been reset, and including after the battery has been replaced. 1. Pull the crown out to the 2nd position. 2. Press Button A to set the chronograph second hand to the zero position. The chronograph hand can be advanced rapidly by continuously pressing Button A. 3. Once the hands have been zeroed, return the crown to the normal position. NOTE: Do not push crown to normal position while the chronograph seconds hand returns to zero position. HOUR HAND: Pull the crown (C-) then push it back to the normal position (C). The hour hand (H) will jump, indicating that it is now ready to be set. a. Press and hold the crown (C+) to move the hour hand forward continuously. Release the crown to stop moving the hand. b. Press the crown briefly (C+) to step the time forward by one hour. 2. MINUTE HAND: Pull the crown (C-) then push it back to the normal position (C). The minute hand (M) will jump, indicating that it is now ready to be set. a. Press and hold the crown (C+) to move the hour hand forward continuously. Release the crown to stop moving the hand. b. Press the crown briefly (C+) to step the time forward by one minute. 3. If you need to make additional adjustments to the hour and minute hands, repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary. 4. To exit time-setting mode, release the crown to the normal position (C). After 10 seconds the watch returns to normal timekeeping mode. Press the crown (C+) for one second. Do not hold down on the crown. The hour hand (H) and minute hand (M) will move to the 12:00 position. The subdial hands (S1, S2, S3) will activate in a programmed movement for 10 seconds. Once the program has finished, the hour and minute hands will return to the correct designated time. Note: Do not over-push or use extreme pressure on the crown as it may damage the movement or crown stem. Also when pushing please do not press at an angle as it may break the crown stem. 43 A007WS caliber ("Automaton") Note: Activation Mode is designed to automatically activate at the top of each hour. The 10 seconds of movement is calculated in the program so the correct time should be displayed appropriately and no loss of time should occur. Our sapphire is cut from a polished portion of solid sapphire. Sapphire is measured in hardness at nine (9) on the Mohs scale. It is so hard that only a diamond which measures ten (10) on the Mohs scale can scratch it. MINERAL CRYSTAL: Some of our timepieces utilize high quality hardened mineral crystals and most are coated on the surface with our sapphire/diamond coating called, Diamondfx®, and are AR (anti-reflective) coated on the underside. It is made of a material that has an index of refraction that is somewhere between air and glass, minimizing glare. COATINGS: Usually the undersurface of the sapphire and mineral crystals are coated with proprietary aerospace technology that helps block the sun’s UVA, UVB, and UVC rays; reducing watch dial degradation. Please do not open caseback or have it repaired by any unauthorized WatchStar® dealer as it will void the warranty. American Star® 47 Gen. 1 Automatic 48 Sapphire or Hardened Mineral Watch Crystal with DiamondFX® Coating CARE FOR YOUR WATCH CRYSTAL: Wipe the crystal with a fine micro-fiber cloth. Although the mineral watch crystal is considered impervious to most abrasions it can be scratched by very hard minerals such as a diamond or diamond treated substances, e.g. filing emery board or jewelry. In the event there is a mishap, e.g., condiment, tea, or non-abrasive liquid, use a lightly waterdampened, non-abrasive cloth to wipe off most impurities and finish with a dry micro-fiber cloth. (Do not use soap). WARNING: Diamonds, diamond jewelry, emery boards can cause damage to your sapphire crystal. Please take extra care when these materials are present. If you purchased one of our timepieces with a quartz movement and it is not working: Please note that there is a plastic insert between the crown and stem. Remove the plastic and push the crown back to the Normal position to activate the timepiece. Water and Shock Resistant The WatchStar® timepieces are water resistant to one of these bars: 3 ATM = 30m/100ft, 5 ATM = 50m/165 ft, 10 ATM = 100m /330 ft, 15ATM = 150m/500 ft, and 20 ATM= 300m/660 ft. Please refer to your individual timepiece caseback for the exact water resistance. 3 ATM, Thirty (30) meters or one-hundred-feet (100 ft), means your timepiece will not withstand swimming or bathing. It can withstand quick contact with water, e.g. a rain shower or a brief exposure to water. 5 ATM, Fifty (50) meters or one-hundred-sixty-five-feet (165 ft), means do not wear the timepiece while bathing, snorkeling or scuba diving. It would withstand resistance to swimming in shallow water but no thrashing in the water as it puts extreme pressure on the seals in the timepiece. 10 ATM, One-hundred (100) meters or three-hundred-thirty-feet (330 ft), means that you can wear the timepiece around water, One-hundred (100) meters is the recommended water testing for boating, sailing, lap swimming, snorkeling, and shallow scuba diving, but no more than fifty-feet (50) feet and not for an extended period of time. 15 ATM, One-hundred-fifty (150) meters or five-hundred feet (500 ft), means you can wear the timepiece while playing swimming or pool diving, snorkeling and scuba diving. 20 ATM, Two-Hundred (200) meters or six-hundred-sixty feet (660 ft), means you can wear the timepiece while bathing, swimming, snorkeling, or deep water dives. 49 50 Water and Shock ResistaNT (continued) WARNING: To maintain water resistance, do not press any buttons or pull out the crown under water. SALT WATER: Rinse complete watch with fresh water after exposure to salt. NO HOT TUB OR SAUNA. Please do not take your WatchStar® timepiece into the hot tub or sauna. The combination of extreme heat and water may cause your watch to lose its water resistance. NO HOT SHOWER. Please do not wear your watch in the shower. Please do not place your timepiece on electronic units like speakers or a refrigerator since they have strong magnetic fields. Shock Resistance. Our watches are designed to pass shock-resistance tests. However, care should be taken to avoid damaging the watches sapphire or mineral crystal. No cleaning chemicals should be used on the timepiece or the sapphire and/or mineral crystal as they could cause damage. Superstar® Collection 51 Skeleton Automatic Frequently Asked Questions 1. Where can I find additional information for my timepiece? We maintain all of our current models’ instructions on our website at www.watchstar.com. If you have additional questions please contact our Customer Care Center at 410.884.4444. 2. How should I care for my timepiece’s case and bracelet? Stainless-steel cases and bracelets can be rinsed off in water, but don’t use any abrasive soap and only dry with a soft or micro-fiber cloth. Do not push or activate any pushers on the watchcase or pull out the crown during this operation. To obtain additional information please refer to the Water and Shock Resistance guide listed in this booklet. 3. Should I provide any special care for my timepiece? Your timepiece is a precious measuring instrument. Any timepiece you choose to wear should be appropriate for the physical activity you intend to do while wearing the watch. We recommend avoiding all unnecessary shocks or hard knocks, e.g. dropping your timepiece on a hard surface, which may damage the interior parts. Try to avoid leaving your timepiece in extreme cold or hot places, e.g. in the glove box or on the dash of your vehicle in direct sunlight. 4. Do automatic movements need winding? Automatic watches are mechanical and the energy is stored in the mainspring, so when its energy runs low so does the movement’s accuracy. If you stopped wearing your timepiece for 24 hours or longer you should wind it by hand before you put it back on your wrist. If you notice the seconds hand is running, wind the crown clockwise about twenty times but stop if you feel resistance. Most watches have a clutch to keep from over-winding but if you feel resistance stop winding or you could damage 53 Frequently Asked Questions (continued) your timepiece. If your timepiece has completely stopped, you need to wind the timepiece about thirty-eight times, because shaking or moving the rotor will not be sufficient. 5. Is my timepiece a limited edition? Turn your timepiece over and look at the caseback. Examine the caseback for the lettering, “Limited Edition” and/or an engraving with a number, e.g. 000/500. If shown, your timepiece is a limited edition. 6. What is DNA metal? Within our luxury brand is a collection that amalgamates authentic and historic metal and/or materials into or onto our timepieces. Timepieces containing this “DNA” material are authenticated, verified and certified. A certificate of authenticity (COA) accompanies each timepiece. 7. What is Ion Plating (IP)? Ion plating (IP) is a physical vapor deposition (PVD) that is one of the most advanced surface finishing processes ever developed. Our PVD timepieces are bombarded by atoms which are accelerated by a magnetic field in a vacuum environment. Experiments prove plating obtained through ion plating is five to eight times more durable than traditional methods in terms of wear and corrosion resistance. 8. What is Platinum Plating? Platinum is considered one of the most precious metals. In nature it is found as part of the Platinum Group Metals, e.g., palladium and rhodium.
