KINGS LANGLEY PUBLIC SCHOOL Excellence in Scholarship, Citizenship and Personal Development Address: Phone: Fax: Email: Home Page: 68 Isaac Smith Parade, Kings Langley, 2147 9674 4460 / 9674 4672 9624 5453 kingslangl-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.kingslangley.ps.education.nsw.gov.au ENDEAVOUR LOG - Term 4 Week 8 - December 4, 2008 SCHOOL CAPTAINS AND PREFECTS FOR 2009 - It gives me great pleasure to announce the 2009 Leadership team. Earlier in the week, 20 students who were nominated by Year 5 students, 10 boys and 10 girls, gave their speeches on why they should be elected to a Leadership position in 2009. Their speeches were of the highest standard and I was extremely proud of each of them. I believe that collectively they were the best speeches given by students in my time at Kings Langley PS. As a result of the quality of the candidates a decision was made to increase the number of positions from 10 to 12. The School Leadership team for 2009 is as follows: SCHOOL CAPTAINS Demi McFarlane Daniel Schmoll VICE CAPTAINS Breanna Sommerton Joshua Hostiadi PREFECTS Bodeen Jackson Alycia McCarthy Elisha Mondonedo Kayla Moon Michael Habek Joshua McMahon James Morgan Daniel Pesavento Can I also congratulate the students who missed out on a position because you should be very proud of the fact that you were nominated for this Leadership position by your peers. Isobel Church Stephanie Hall Jessie Laurence Stephanie Slater Brendan Farmer Liam Gillies Patrick O’Reilly Connor Pappas SCHOOL ORGANISATION FOR 2009 - As discussed in last weeks LOG our numbers have risen to approximately 664 students for 2009. This has necessitated a 26th class for next year . This classroom will be situated next to Mrs Dyer and the new bike rack. The room has been placed there so that we do not lose any playground space and that cabling, paths and covered walkways are easily accessed. This placement will result in a few trees being removed. We have organised our class structures for next year which has resulted in two composite classes, a 2/3 and a 4/5. We have had one or two composite classes each year for the last few years and they have been supported by the parents who have had children in these classes. All classes are currently being organised and will be in draft form for the beginning of the year. We will not know exact classes until all students including Kindergarten return in 2009. In terms of staffing Mrs Henze will retire at the end of the year and her position in the Library will be taken by Mrs Andrews. A new teacher for the 26th class will be appointed in the next two weeks and Mrs Eves and Mrs DeKauwe will take maternity leave throughout the year. All students in Years 1 to 6 will return to school on Wednesday 28th January. These students will line up in their old classes at Assembly. They will be placed in their new classes by recess. Kindergarten students commence the school year on Thursday 29th January. We will confirm final classes when all students have returned to school. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE MAY BE INDUSTRIAL ACTION IN THE FIRST WEEK BACK AT SCHOOL. We will let you know exactly what is happening in the last LOG in Week 10. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. TECHNOLOGY ROOM OFFICIAL OPENING - On Tuesday 9th December a special assembly will be held to officially open our Technology room. The funds for this room were obtained through the Investing in our Schools Program which was a Federal Government initiative. Ms Julie Owens, the Federal Member for Parramatta will attend this assembly which will commence at 2pm in our school hall. I would like to invite any parents that are available to come along and attend this assembly and be part of this opening ceremony.
