Welcome to Bassoonapalooza
February 28, 2015
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome participants and bassoon
the University of Toronto.
A great deal of time, careful planning and effort has gone into creating an event
that will not only teach and inspire, but will continue to develop the sense of a
bassoon community.
As the largest faculty of music in Canada with roughly 900 students, the
University of Toronto has a broad range of degrees, with many specializations,
based in many different kinds of music. We suggest you visit our new website
and have a look around: https://music.utoronto.ca/ While you are there, visit the
CONCERTS & EVENTS tab. There will certainly be something in the hundreds
of concerts produced each year (many which are free) that you might want to
attend.
Congratulations to Nadina Mackie Jackson and her team on making this day a
reality. From all of us at the UofT Faculty of Music, we hope you have a great day
of learning, listening, inspiration and connecting.
Sincerely,
Gordon Foote
Associate Dean, Performance and Public Events

Welcome to Bassoonapalooza
A warm welcome to all of you from the Council of Canadian Bassoonists and the
directors, to Bassoon
day in the history of the University of Toronto!
From the wealth of bassoon talent available to us, we have chosen richly varied
artists and music to showcase the voice of the bassoon, spanning from the time
of Vivaldi (who wrote more bassoon concerti than any composer before or since)
bassoon soloists you will hear today range from our globe-trotting, culture-shifting
teacher and performer from Memphis, Lecolion Washington, to our singersongwriter, improvising artists, to our beloved repairman who keeps our complex
bassoons humming, to our recently graduated students who have joyfully crafted
excellent string players, pianist and conductor...a true glimpse into the panoply of
possibilities that exist for bassoonists.
Bassoon
many new bassoon concerti yet to present) and Black History Month (so many
great talents to be heard).
unexpected delights combined with our rich musical heritage.
And most of all, we want to hear YOU, on this stage and beyond, playing and
supporting music that you believe in, spoken in the voice of the bassoon.
