e’re passionate about the carpets
we make and the quality we insist on
has been central to our business since 1783.
To achieve the beautiful, durable carpets
we’re known for we control every stage of
production. Skilled craftspeople in our own
factories work through a 13-step process on
every carpet. A process that begins with the
highest-quality materials.

Wool is the ultimate sustainable choice for
flooring. It insulates your home, it’s easily
recyclable and biodegradable, plus shearing
sheep is essential for their welfare. After
centuries in the carpet-making business, we
know where the best, most hard wearing wool
comes from. That’s why wool from one in eight
British sheep will end up in one of our carpets.
In fact, we’re British wool’s single-biggest
user. We also buy nylon and a small amount
of New Zealand wool for softer shades and
velvet constructions.
By controlling the manufacturing process,
we can use all our experience and knowledge
to mix the best-quality raw materials into the
perfect blend to suit the purpose of the carpet.
Every metre of Brintons carpet is inspected
by eye twice and finished by hand before it
leaves the factory. ❖

A Proud
History
Wool has been our passion since 1783
when William Brinton opened his mill in Kidderminster.
BEAUTY BY DESIGN
W
e’ve had some big moments in our long history. In 1890,
we patented the Axminster loom that revolutionised the
production of carpet patterns, and we’ve been building all our
own looms since the early 1900s. We perfected the Brintons
blend – 80 percent wool, 20 percent nylon in the 1950s and
still use it today. In the 1970s, we were the first company to
introduce computer-aided design for carpets. In 1997,
we fulfilled the world’s largest-ever woven carpet order –
135,000sqm for Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong. This
proves our carpet’s durability, with 35 million passengers
walking on it every year. Our latest high-definition looms can
create patterns of incredible depth – they can even reproduce
photographs. This is the next generation of carpets and we
think William Brinton would be very proud. ❖

Landmark

ext time you’re strolling down the Burlington Arcade,
London’s historic covered shopping gallery, remember
to look down – you’ll see a Brintons carpet.
We were commissioned, along with British design house
Linley, to create a bespoke carpet to run the arcade’s full
length. The 180 linear metre design features 92 iconic
structures from London and around the world, as well
as a few playful touches – don’t miss King Kong swinging
from the Empire State Building or Mary Poppins flying
over the rooftops.
This is just one iconic project we’ve been proud to work
on. When you order a Brintons carpet, your home receives
just as dedicated a service as the Burlington Arcade or
St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. ❖

What makes a Brintons carpet so special? They are the result of mixing the finest materials with knowledge
hundreds of years in the making. We have the perfect blend and weight of carpet for every room in your home.

E
very Brintons carpet is a blend of our
design team’s inspirational flair and first-rate
knowledge of manufacturing techniques. Their
practical, creative thinking ensures your carpet will
work hard and look beautiful for years to come.
We know woven carpets are the best carpets,
so we manufacture two constructions –
Wilton, which is great for textured plains, and
Axminster, which creates superior pattern
definition. This flexibility ensures we can offer
the highest-quality and the widest variety of
colours, textures and designs as possible.
All of our carpets are made using our 80
percent wool, 20 percent nylon blend so softness
with strength is guaranteed. The heavier the
‘total pile weight’ of the carpet, which refers
to the amount of yarn used to make it, the
more luxurious it is to the touch. Touch is really
important when choosing a carpet, that’s why
we’re happy to send free samples so you can
experience the quality first hand. ❖

WILTON TWIST
This carpet yarn has an extra twist added to the spinning process,
which creates the renowned defined and textured surface. Brintons
most popular carpet, Bell Twist (as seen here) is the ultimate
hard-wearing option without comprising on softness or warmth
and remains tough enough for high traffic areas. Available in over
70 colours, from modern pastels to dark dramatic shades, Bell Twist
is perfect for creating a cohesive look throughout the home.

WILTON VELVET
Wilton is an early form of weaving, offering a variety of twist and
velvet finishes. The Majestic Velvet (as shown) is the most luxurious
plain carpet Brintons offer. Featuring a velvety softness that’s
endlessly tactile, rich and sumptuous, the carpet will add grandeur
and depth to any interior space. Despite its opulent feel and
appearance, Majestic Velvet is still an incredibly hard-wearing option.

AXMINSTER
The Axminster weaving technique is best suited for achieving
detail making it the weave of choice for pattern definition.
Made by Brintons’ own looms since the early 1900s, the
technique allows us to push the boundaries of patterned
carpets and unleash the creativity of design houses such as
Timorous Beasties (shown) to make a real statement.

With a major Matisse exhibition at London’s
Tate Modern this summer, we’re proud to have
our very own work in the collection. Mimosa is
inspired by a design in the Brintons archive, which
was commissioned and created by the artist in
1951. We have modern-day masterpieces from
Timorous Beasties, whose rugs play with scale
and feature beautiful, directional designs inspired
by flora and fauna, as well as bold, pixelated
designs from Cristian Zuzunaga. ❖

Known for their beautiful, dramatic textiles and wallpapers, Timorous Beasties began by creating rugs
for Brintons. This season, for the first time, they have designed a carpet collection.

T
imorous Beasties was founded in 1990
by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons,
who had met while studying textile design in
Glasgow. Their work has been provocative,
bold and always beautiful, drawing inspiration
from the natural world and modern society. An
experimental approach and their investment in
new design and manufacturing techniques have
allowed them to move into other product areas
including lace, jacquards, lighting and ceramics.
The duo began working with Brintons in 2007
and quickly found they agreed with us on what
makes people sit up and take notice, and what
the future of interiors should be. After designing
rugs for Brintons, Timorous Beasties has
now created a carpet collection, making their
dramatic patterns even more of a statement. ❖

with Brintons has been a celebration of their heritage
patterns and colours, and we’re excited to introduce
fresh new designs this season. Working closely with
Laura Ashley, we’ve developed a range that is the perfect
mix of the brand’s history and its modern outlook. We’ve
introduced a new broadloom stripe following the success
of the smart striped runners already in the collection.

resh, modern and flexible, Padstow has
patterns that feel completely different
depending on the colourway you choose.
Its patterns are inspired by pop art, with
polka dots and geometrics. The palette
meanwhile is influenced by the seaside,
with soft, ice-cream shades of blue, pink
and spearmint, balanced by subtle greys.
Making a bolder statement, one Padstow
pattern, a pin dot, also comes in a shade
inspired by Pantone’s colour of the year –
Radiant Orchid – plus a bright yellow and
green. The variety of colours allows the

laid never goes out of fashion. It has the
power to be thoroughly modern or classic and
traditional, contrasting or blending with any style
or décor. Our Abbeyglen plaid collection is named
after the stunning castle above Connemara on
the west coast of Ireland. The misty beauty of the
Irish countryside inspired its palette, with warm
colours giving the designs a rich natural quality. Just
like Abbeyglen, the plaids in our second collection,
Abbotsford, are woven Axminsters in the

The traditional feel of the patterns can also

ike Regina, our Marquis collection is made
up of carpets of differently scaled patterns

A narrow hallway that would be more suited to
a smaller-scale pattern might lead into a living

statement motifs, for example. Or you might

Our carpets are produced from a wool-rich yarn blend. All natural
textiles have colour and blend variances between batches and an
exact match to sampling is not guaranteed. Heather and berber
effects are created by blending different coloured wool which can
appear as dark flecks or linear forms in the carpet. This is considered
an attractive and intentional feature.

Carpet is perfectly compatible with underfloor heating systems, as has
been proved in joint tests with the Underfloor Heating Manufacturers
Association and the Carpet Foundation. This is why we’ve added a
‘tog rating’ to our product information table on page 73. For advice on
underlay suitable for use with carpet over underfloor heating, contact

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

between underfoot comfort and support
to your carpet.
Perfect to use throughout the home, it
performs extremely well on halls, stairs,
landings and any high traffic areas.
Brinfelt helps prevent the carpet pile from
flattening, allowing your carpet to retain its
appearance. It acts like a shock absorber,
allowing your carpet to stand up to wear
and tear, so your carpet lasts longer. Brinfelts’
durable construction is also guaranteed for
the life of the initial carpet installation. Due
to its composition, Brinfelt is excellent for
sound insulation and retaining heat in a room.
Brinfelt is a 65oz, 2.3 tog combination felt
and crumb rubber underlay manufactured in
the UK. It is produced using our thread and
yarn waste from our UK factories and we are
actively reviewing all our waste streams for
possible inclusion. This means that Brinfelt is
not only good for your carpet, but also kind
on the environment. We recommend Brinfelt
