DAY 1 - SATURDAY - JUNE 10, 2017 FLY TO COSTA RICA Fly today from Los Angeles to San Jose Costa Rica (Flight schedules and routing to be determined approximately 10 months before departure). Transfer to the WYNDHAM HOTEL SAN JOSE - HERRADURA. DAY 2 - SUNDAY - JUNE 11 SAN JOSE TO TORTUGUERO 6:00 AM - Depart from San José accompanied by your Tour Managers.. 6:10 AM - Driving first past coffee plantations, we'll head into the mountains of BRAULIO CARRILLO NATIONAL PARK, where steep slopes are covered with thick cloud forest and beautiful waterfalls can be seen from the road. 7:15 AM - Just after BRAULIO CARRILLO NATIONAL PARK, we stop for a typical Costa Rican breakfast, fruit juice, coffee, eggs and the popular “gallo pinto". 7:45 AM - Following breakfast, we continue to a BANANA PLANTATION, where your guide will explain the process of growing and exporting that fruit. Quick stop with time for bathroom break. 10:00 AM - We later disembark from our coaches and embark on the most exciting part of this tour: the boat trip into the jungle of the TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK. You will learn about how nature works and to gain a real feel of the tropical humid rainforest. Covering 29000 hectares, TORTUGUERO IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT NESTING SITES OF CHELONIA MIDAS, the green sea turtle, whereas its forests and waterways are home for such endangered mammals such as sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis and manatees. There are also abundant birds, such as toucans, trogons, egrets, herons and aninghas, as well as crocodiles, turtles and countless colorful butterflies, including blue morpho. COSTA RICA - JUNE 10 - 18, 2017 PURA VIDA PAGE 2 DAY 2 - SUNDAY - JUNE 11 SAN JOSE TO TORTUGUERO (continued) 12:00 PM - Once in Tortuguero and after checking into the Laguna or Mawamba Lodge, lunch will be served. 2:30 PM - At this time we will take you to the museum of Tortuguero and to the town of Tortuguero for a walking tour. 4:00 PM - Back at the hotel, you will have time to relax (and swim) before dinner. 7:00 PM - Dinner. DAY 3 - MONDAY - JUNE 12 TORTUGUERO 5:30 AM - Your tour guide will take you by boat to one of the most enchanting sites in the region: TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK, where you will explore the lagoons and hidden canals. There are trees towering nearly 50 meters tall, covered with bromelias, vines and orchids and an array of wildlife can be spotted in the foliage, including families of the Howler Monkies. 8:00 AM - Breakfast is served including fruits, eggs, juice, toast and fresh brewed Costa Rican coffee. 9:30 AM - Tour and walk to the rain forest. 1:00 PM - Lunch. 2:00 PM - Free afternoon to relax, swim or have a walk around the hotel property and surrounding jungle (supervised by local guides). 7:00 PM - Dinner. After lunch board the motor coach that has arrived from San Jose with all of your baggage and instruments. 1:00 PM - Departure to Arenal. 4:30 PM - Arrive at your Arenal hotel, The Hotel Arenal Paraiso. 5:30 PM - Dinner at hotel. 6:45 PM - Depart for town for performance in the Arenal Catholic Church. 8:00 PM - Concert at Catholic Church of Arenal. COSTA RICA - JUNE 10 - 18, 2017 PURA VIDA PAGE 4 DAY 5 - WEDNESDAY - JUNE 14 ARENAL From 6:30 AM - Breakfast at hotel. 8:00 AM - Depart for Canopy tour (Zip Lining). 8:30 AM - Depart for Horseback riding. 12:00 PM - Free time for independent lunch at hotel. 1:30 - 5:30 PM - Concert this afternoon for country students, to be held in an open air, jungle hut. 6:30 PM - Dinner at hotel followed by Folkloric Entertainment. DAY 6 - THURSDAY - JUNE 15 ARENAL TO SAN JOSE (TEATRO NACIONAL) 9:00 AM - After breakfast, load the coaches and depart Arenal for San Jose. 12:30 PM - Arrive in San Jose and have time for lunch ($ 10 allowance). There are many fast food restaurants within a two block radius of the Teatro. All locations will be pointed out by your Tour Managers and all are very close together. 2:00 PM - Begin Dress rehearsal in The Teatro Nacional. 5:15 PM - Walk to Grand Hotel Costa Rica for dinner (100 yards from the Teatro). 6:45 PM - Return to Teatro Nacional and dress for concert. DAY 7 - FRIDAY - JUNE 16 SAN JOSE From 6:30 AM - Breakfast. 9:00 AM - Depart San Jose for sightseeing of San Jose. 12:00 Noon - Free time for lunch ($ 10.00 allowance) in downtown San Jose. 1:30 PM - Depart for hotel. 2:00 PM - Concert to be organized at a local school or the home for the aged. 5:45 PM - Depart hotel. 7:00 PM - Attend concert by National Symphony Orchestra in the Catholic Church in Barva Heredia. This free concert is subject to scheduling by the National Symphony. 8:15 PM - Approx. - Dinner at a local restaurant. 9:30 PM - Depart Restaurant. 9:45 PM - Arrive back at hotel. In Costa Rica we enjoy a pleasant climate; the average temperature is around 23ºC (72ºF) in the Central Valley, but considerably higher on the coasts. In Santo Domingo de Heredia, where our hotel is located, the temperature is around 18ºC (64.4ºF) and 28ºC (80ºF). 2. What is the time zone in Costa Rica? Costa Rica’s time zone is the same as Central Standard Time in the United States (GMT-6). We do not have Daylight Savings Time. That means that we are the same time as Chicago and Dallas from fall to spring, but one hour “behind” them during the summer. (Example, if it´s noon in Chicago in July, it is 11 am here). 3. What is the elevation? The Central Valley, 1200 meters (about 3700 feet) above sea level. 4. Are dollars accepted in most of the country? Yes, dollars are accepted in many parts of the country. It is recommended to carry some local currency (colones) especially if you are travelling through rural areas, where only local currency is accepted. Credit cards –Visa and Master Card are widely accepted. American Express and Diners Club have more limited acceptance. 5. Do you provide hair dryers and irons in the room? There are hair dryers in each room, and irons are provided for an hour at a time upon request at the Front Desk. 6. What electricity and plugs are used in Costa Rica? In Costa Rica, electricity is 110 volts, same as in the U.S., and plugs are typically 2 pronged flat type.
