An Afternoon with Professor Barrett Hazeltine Winter Concert with The Jabberwocks n behalf of The Brown Club of Fairfield County and its officers and directors, I send especially warm greetings to all members of the Brown University community – alumni, parents, students, and friends. With your support, our Brown Club continues to grow. Over the last year, we organized thirteen events that drew over 900 participants. We continue to be recognized by Brown as one of the leading and most active Brown Clubs in the world. At our recent family lobster bake, over 65 people dined al fresco on a beautiful June evening, which capped a wonderful 20102011 membership season. With the beginning of our new membership year on September 1st, we are pleased to announce another full calendar of events. Please join us for as many as you can and feel free to bring family and friends. We encourage your participation and your ideas, and hope that you will join the Club as either a new or a renewing member. Your support is critical to our continued success. In addition to our event calendar, our site offers Club membership information and an application form, photos from recent events, a registration link for the free email edition of The Brown Daily Herald, information about volunteering as a BASC interviewer and much more! We begin the 2011-2012 season with a busy fall lineup, including a Greenwich Polo Club outing, a forum with Associate Director of Admissions Dotsy Testa ’62, an event for alumni with young children, an athletic clinic and talk for Brunonians and their children, and a special evening of wine tasting, catered food, and silent auction to benefit The Brown Club of Fairfield County Scholarship Fund. We will then welcome winter with our annual concert featuring a Brown a cappella singing group in January. We are planning an evening at a theatrical performance, a movie screening, and, of course, a lecture by a noted Brown professor. In the spring, we will organize another event for alumni with young children, our ever-popular lobster bake, an outing to see “Shakespeare on the Sound,” and finally conclude the year with a summer send-off party for area students of the class of 2016. For more details on these events, please refer to the calendar of events in the pages that follow, or visit our website: www.alumni.brown.edu/ clubs/BrownClubofFairfieldCounty (or simply type “Brown Club Fairfield” into Google, and our website will be listed first). All of these programs are managed by Club volunteers and produce many benefits for the University and the extended Brown community. In addition to building camaraderie, inspiring dialogue, and providing entertainment, our programs support the Club’s 30+ year legacy of awarding scholarships to Brown students from Fairfield County. Contributions and proceeds have enabled us to award more than $120,000 since the scholarship program began. Our Board of Directors remains strong with 19 members representing a cross-section of classes. The Club is dedicated to growing Brown’s presence in Fairfield County and beyond, in collaboration with the Brown Clubs of New York City, Westchester County, and New Haven County. As a Brown Cub member, you will be notified of their activities and receive member pricing for their events. If you would like to become more involved in the Brown Club, host an event, or be considered for our leadership team, please contact me or one of the other directors. I encourage you to support the Brown Club with your membership, your attendance at our events, your suggestions for new programs, and your continued enthusiasm to help produce them. We also welcome volunteers who are interested in hosting events at their homes or helping to plan one of our many programs. Our volunteers have gained a great deal of satisfaction from helping the Club and Brown. I am confident you will find this a good way to stay involved and connected with the University and our extended community of alumni in Fairfield County. Please note that all Club memberships expire on August 31st and are up for renewal. We ask you to complete the enclosed membership form, including the questionnaire.
