As 2014 comes to a close, I like to take time over the holidays, relax and reflect on how
the 2014 Car Show Season turned out and what accomplishments that I’ve been able make with
the magazine. This year was a huge year as we got settled into our new headquarters here in
Murfreesboro, Tennessee after relocating the magazine from our original headquarters in Austin, Texas.
Our car spent the fall of 2013 in a transport going from Texas to Kentucky for storage
and the next phase of work to be completed. We also spent the first 7 months of the year just
attending the shows versus participating with our car. I did enjoy a successful 350 mile cruise
from our hometown of Ashland, Kentucky back to “The Boro”.
Looking back at some of the shows this year, they were a lot of fun as I continued to
establish the brand in the South East. One of our favorite shows of the season was the National
Street Rod Association’s South Plus held the first weekend in May at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. This was an old time favorite and we were super excited to get the chance to
visit again. One of the best parts is that we have very close friends that live in the Knoxville
area. Our friends Larisa and Jared Morace and their son Kael lived there at the time. Jared had
to be out of town for work that weekend, but Larisa and Kael met us at the show and had a ball.
Kael was 8 months old during this time and it excites me to no end to realize that this
was his first car show! Larisa pushed him around the entire show field and he just sat up in his
stroller and smiled and never cried or complained one time as he checked out all the chrome
and candy colors! Can you imagine that?, being at that age and taking in over 2000 hot rods,
customs, trucks and muscle cars? I imagine he might have considered the show one GIANT toy
box! I know I did for sure.
I know that Larisa and Jared are very proud of this perfect little boy, and I was super
excited to have had the honor to be a part of his first car show and potentially have had an influence on one of the next generation of Hot Rodders!! WMM

The Next Generation of Hot Rodders – Part II
Following on from the article above, I wanted to tell the story of the other show that I
attended this year that had a huge impact on me personally. This one was the second week
of July and was The Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, OH which is covered in the following
pages. My buddy Doug who you were introduced to with his boys in the issue that covered the
GoodGuys Nashville Nationals this past year.
Doug has been going to either car shows or stereo competitions with me for well over
two decades. His oldest son Ray seems to be following in his footsteps as he began attending
the show in Columbus as soon as he could! Not only does he attend car shows of this caliber,
he also travels with his Dad (alternating trips with his younger brother Russell) to Bristol,
Tennessee Nascar events. It’s in his blood just like it is for all of us. The best part for Ray is
that he just turned 16 years of age! I can still remember when he was born starting out with hot
wheels cars!
An even better situation for Ray is that right before the Columbus show his dad had purchased a ’71 Volkswagon Single cab pickup that they took to the show!
In the photo below Ray has a ’32 Ford coupe on his tank top that served as the artwork
from one of the previous Goodguys Columbus shows that he has attended. I spotted that very
car and pointed it out to him and gave him a little history on the car as well, as you can see here
he was all smiles as he posed next to the car for a photograph! It’s times like this when we get
to share our hobby with The Next Generation of Hot Rodders that excites me to no end! WMM

THE BIG ONE
Normally billed as THE BIG ONE the Goodguys Nationals takes place at
the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio and draws 6000+ hot rods, customs, muscle cars and trucks through’72. This show was in its 17 year in
July of 2014 and if you have never attended you must add it to your bucket
list. As this show is the largest of the Goodguys Events top builders from
all over the country often use this show to debut their new rides.
Friday night the Goodguys Vintage Drag Racing his held at National Trails
Raceway and of course the host hotel and other local area hotels are crawling with cars from the show that are out at night enjoying the city. I did have the luck of seeing some burnouts this year, but they are under
strict control of the local authorities to keep everyone safe! See you in ‘15!!

It features an 1100hp twin turbo 406 ci Dart head based all Aluminum engine. The car was first featured in Hot Rod in March of ‘03 and has won

super high end ride. This car is certainly a treat to take in!

Bench Racing
Bench Racing is defined in several different ways. The urban dictionary defines Bench Racing as:
1. To discuss quarter mile elapsed time of a car based on a list of modifications or horsepower estimate.
2. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications
done to each engine.
3. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications
done to each engine.
While I do agree with the Urban Dictionary’s definition of Bench Racing, Bench Racing in the context of this
section of the magaine will be defined as:
Subscribe to Wolf Motorsports Magazine?
1. Discussion of ANYTHING automobile related between at least two individuals with the goal of passing
time at a car show, sharing automotive related ideas, opinions or entertaining themselves or others.
