reunion.
the reunion activities
mass in the chapel
On Thursday 25th November
2004, the Fatima chapel warmly
welcomed back the Class of ’84.
The mass was celebrated by none
other than Father Gervais Girod. Fr.
Girod’s sermon took us back and
reminded us of the important role
that we play as adults and more
importantly, as parents. The mass
proved inspirational to all who
attended and was the perfect way
to start the reunion.

OUTSIDE THE GREY SHIRT
On Friday 26th November, it was time to go back to that ole favourite
watering hole, Pelican Inn, for the boys to get together, have some
drinks, good food and gape at some drop dead gorgeous (or so they
seemed after six drinks, you be the judge) Carib Girls. The night was
oh-so-memorable for the “coming out” of Ian Salandy to Karim
Rahaman (you had to be there!) Don’t worry Ian, we all know that it

the dinner
“It was wonderful to see the old faces, and though we have aged,
somehow the teachers, twenty years later, looked the same!”
On Saturday 27th November, the school hall was the venue for the
grand finale of the reunion. The hall was beautifully transformed from
the ole sweat box into a wonderfully decorated, cool dining area,
thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Chin Cheong.
It was wonderful to see the old faces, and though we have aged,
somehow the teachers twenty years later looked the same! Sixteen of
our teachers were able to attend. It was a joy to chat with them so
openly without the fear of detention or a good cut arse! The teachers
who came were: Clive Pantin, John Romero, Clive John, Mr. and Mrs.
Francisco Garcia, Alloy Lee Ha, Fenrick De Silva, Christian Harrigan,
Mervin Achille, Harry Ramdass (who did not miss the Boys Lime, naturally), Sherry Ann Ahwai Chung, Fr. Gervais Girod, Glen Roach, Ray
Holman, Myrtle Cumberbatch, Marion Hubbard, Diane Persaud, Fr.
Gregory Augustus and the current principal, Anthony Garcia. A special thanks to those “who came from foreign” - Richard Figaro, Gerald
Stewart, Dylan Marfan, Whitney Chin, Andrew Campbell and Richard
Harris.
Organising committee, paying special tribute to Raymond Samms
and Joseph Chin Cheong.
Hats off to Richard “Figgy” Figaro who did a splendid job as MC. It
was “Figgy” who inspired the class to give a standing ovation to the
teachers in recognition of the outstanding work they did in moulding
us into the great people that we are today.
The treat of the night was a slide show, created by Marlon Hoo Fatt,
of some old school photos (courtesy Alan Donawa, Stephen
Broadbridge and Brendon Chow Lin On). What the hell was Antonio
Davila trying to do with that contortionist act? The pictures from grad
– they say fashion comes back eventually – not those outfits! And
Raymond “Roving Ace” Samms...Magnum PI?
Following the group shots of the teachers and the Class of ’84, there
was a raffle for two Fatima shirts which were won by Charles Pashley
and Hayden Charles and signed by all present…a real collector’s
item!
The night’s proceedings began with a prayer by Fr. Augustus and the
singing of the College Song…the memories came flooding back complete with goose pimples.
Colin Inniss as DJ and Alan Donawa on box bass with the parang
band “Paranderos de UWI” provided entertainment for the night.
The gathering was addressed by Mr. De Silva, who spoke on behalf of
the teachers, Joel Latiff, Secretary of the Fatima Old Boys’ Association
(FOBA), and Stephen Harris, who spoke on behalf of the Reunion
But the evening was not incident-free as Glenn Roach ex-tempoed a
challenge to the Class of ’84 for a football match with the teachers.
Wonder what will happen there...

football match
Well there we were all decked out in our Lucozade
Sport T-shirts expecting to play the teachers and not
one of them played! Instead, we played a past first XI
team (Nicholas Goddard, Dwight Andrews, Dexter
John and Ricky Waite to name a few) who played on
behalf of the teachers – what a set up! We lost 4-1 but
because of the misrepresentation, The TTFF has advised
that the result of the match was null and void.

greatest memories from fatima
“The day all the guys chased me through the courtyard to dump me in
the bin (I would have escaped if not for that Ravi Samaroo fella!)”
Ravi Samaroo
Placing first in Form 3 Group 4 (I’m still not
sure how this was done!) and working the
bar for Fatima’s Mayfair
Darren Millien
Laughing when Ms. Chin put Scott
Rodriguez out of Accounting class, thinking
he was the one that was talking and imitating her, when in fact it was Yours Truly.
Andre Huggins
Beautiful teachers like Avril Coar, Jillian
Daniel, Sherrie-Ann Gardener and Pat Clerk;
giving out detention as a Prefect and just
liming on the 6th Form Block talking nonsense!
Patrick Chinasing
Doing Sesame Street skits at Christmas –
and the time we came back from 3-0 down
against Lower Six, to win 6-3! Clairmonte
Bourne rallied the team at half time and I
was goalie for the second half.
Raymond Samms
The down-the-islands weekend retreat with
Father Macky; playing football every Friday
after school and jumping into the river to
retrieve the ball; the escapades to that "centrally located place"; night study.
Martin Steele
Manchester United playing at Fatima
grounds and Mr. Kuei Tung giving us two
periods off to watch. Go Red Devils!
Brian Morris
Plumes of brown fumes in Mr. John’s
Chemistry class and of course Mr. Sunderji’s
reaction the day the chalk dropped from his
hand during Math class and landed standing
on end!
Azim Sunderji
Being turned away from entering the school
by Mr. Sunderji after the Form Five last day
festivities, because my shirt was ripped to
shreds.
Richard Figaro
The day all the guys chased me through the
courtyard to dump me in the bin (I would
have escaped if not for that Ravi Samaroo
fella!) and racing back to class after playing
football during lunchtime and drying our
shirts over the fans behind the Audio Visual
Center.
Marlon Hoo Fatt
Cowboy X.
breaking biche with Hayden Charles, Juan
Cezar and others to go to Maracas (the only
time, I swear!) and Father Girod organizing
for us to meet with the girls from Bishops,
and vehemently reminding us, “Boys, sex
doesn’t mean the same thing for girls…”
Brian Ho
George’s delicious doubles, bomb scares and
future lawyers (no names mentioned)
stretching a two-minute discussion into a
half-hour argument.
Robin Maharaj
Every day. It was worth it.
Dominic Rodriguez
The time Scotland was bowled in the
goonies by Andrew Singh and it took him
half an hour to crawl back from the field,
across the road and into class.
Stuart Gooding
Intercol. Of course, I didn’t actually see
much football because there were always so
many nice “young ladies” to talk to!
Gerald Stewart
Small goal after school and watching Keith
Scotland sneaking down doubles during
class time.
Leyland Smith
Fifth and Sixth Form showdown: Warren
Roberts returning from the field with no
underwear, genitals painted black and Azim
Sunderji, grey shirt shredded but walking tall!
Gregory Kirkpatrick
Keith Scotland, when asked to read his poem
in Literature class, took advantage of his
‘heightened’ cerebral powers. He picked up a
blank copybook, recited verse after verse,
turned the page and continued for another
minute or so. When asked to repeat the second stanza he went back to the first page
without missing a beat. How humble he was
in repetition!
Nigel Pantin
Tyrone Brown leading the troops into battle
to retrieve a stolen cricket ball from students
of a neighbouring school (yes, we got back
the ball!); Mr. Niles falling off his chair during study period (yuh just had to be there);
Mr. Pouchet putting me out of class because
I said he had “antique glasses”; Ms. June
Lendor banishing me from French because I
said she looked more like March.
Roger-Mark De Souza
Ms. Humphrey admonishing our sluggishness during French class, which was held
after lunch, by accusing us of having eaten
too much “ground provision” for lunch;
Anston Rambarran
Class was in session when something was
heard trickling onto the floor. It was revealed
that Neil Prima had peed himself. When the
teacher asked him if he wanted to go to the
bathroom, he replied, “It’s too late”.
David Carew
Wayne Nakhid (non-cricketer, couldn’t play
sports at all) taking the best catch I’ve ever
seen!

Playing football and lightning struck – a
branch hit the goal post and burnt Wendell
Charles. What are the chances?
Stephen Harris
Actually seeing with my own eyes Burton’s
homework blown away by a whirlwind in the
school courtyard, and the teachers of course
not buying the excuse that “the wind blew
away my homework…”; seeing the first
sign’s of Brian Lara’s greatness when he dis-
patched star-bowler Anthony Nigel Joseph
for “several” sixes and fours in one over to
destroy us in the lunchtime cricket league.
Keith Chan
Alex McKenzie hopping onto a Cannings
delivery truck on its way out of the school in
order to skip Mr. Garcia’s physics class.
Khalid Carmichael
The Las Cuevas camping trip; Nuts swearing
to defend some girl’s honor; somebody pro-
claiming to be the magic doctor; a man
crowned the Panty man after mysteriously
getting a swell lip; Barbarosa and Robain
tying Django to the tree on the rock; Samms’
close resemblance to Burton Hinds; Castro
listening to the Pope's Easter address while
his clothes were on fire.
Derek Daniel
Racing to the pavilion to playing sanco pedro
with the Sanco syndicate.
thanks from fellas
As lost connections were re-established and
new ones made, it would be great to get
together more. I am delighted that we were
able to come together and have a good time
without feeling awkward. To the guys that
didn’t come, there will be other times to reacquaint. To the committee, many thanks for a
job well done!
Winslow Douglas (AKA…Walter)
I must go on record to commend the committee, all who attended and even those who
couldn’t come, but gave your moral support.
It was great to see everyone and relive the
memories from all those pictures (I’m glad
there were no incriminating ones!)
Huggy Bear
My heartfelt thanks to the whole steering
committee and all others who were on the
periphery helping to make this first Class of
1984 Reunion a success. I know it took a lot
out from your busy schedules but at the end
of the day the job was well done and much
appreciated.
To those “foreign-nationals” who graced us
with their presence…thanks for making the
trek down. To all others who were in Trinidad
but could not make it…you really missed a
great weekend! Let us also think about the
challenge put to us by Joel to join FOBA. We
are all at that learned age where we can make
valuable contributions to our Alma Mater.
Alan Donowa
It’s amazing that it has been twenty years
since we left. The recent reunion, which I
almost did not make it to, was nothing less
than incredible, bringing back many memories of classmates, teachers and the school.
Strive on Fatima Boys, strive on!
Karim Rahaman
From what I can read, everyone had a brilliant
time. Excellent job to all those who made the
time to organize this event. Although I could
not make it, I was there in spirit and treasure
all the experiences I had back in the day, especially since they shaped me into who I am
now.
Sheldon Millette
Words cannot express how much this 20year reunion meant to me. Props to Stephen,
Marlon, Derek, Raymond, Latiff, Joseph Chin
and all those who sacrificed their time. I hold
Fatima College close to my heart and I would
like to repay the school for all the success I
have gained as a result of the foundation that
Fatima laid for me. I feel strongly that we ‘old
boys’ can make a difference in the lives of the
present and future students. Special thanks
to Figgie for the entertaining MC job.
Dylan Marfan
I am disappointed that I couldn’t make it for
the reunion, but as you know, Grenada has
been hit hard by Hurricane Ivan and I’m
involved in the rebuilding process. I wish
everyone a truly great reunion and am looking
forward to seeing all the pictures and getting
everyone’s contact information. No matter
how far away I am, I still believe that Fatima
College gave me the best days of my life – it
is truly the best school in Trinidad.
Bobby Steele
Great job guys! Truly a display of excellence
by dedicated Fatima Men.
Nigel Pantin
The memories from the lime and dinner shall
be cherished forever. I’m back in the frozen
Tundra but with a whole lot of warm memories. I miss the camaraderie already.
Richard Figaro
A big ‘well done’ to the class of ‘84 and I
hope that this reunion is a catalyst for networking and re-igniting old relationships.

Chris Hay
Dexter Brewster
(November 4th 1967 - December 18th 2003)
(June 2nd 1967 - February 23rd 1997)
When Christopher Hay passed away suddenly in 2003,
he left behind his fiancée, Frances Ackrill and a diverse
array of very close friends.
Police Constable Dexter Brewster was killed in a road
accident on the Priority Bus Route, leaving to mourn his
wife Cathy Ann and 2 year-old (at the time) daughter
Shanice.
He will be remembered as someone who would always be
the first to lend a helping hand and will be missed dearly
by all who knew him.
R.I.P. Chris
Dexter joined the Police Service on April 2nd, 1990 and
was described by his colleagues as a young officer who
was always willing to assist. He was buried under full military rites.
