POPCAP ‘14 piclet.org prize africa Page 1 / 4 Media Release, May 13 2014 POPCAP ’14 – piclet.org Prize Africa – Call for Entries! piclet.org is pleased to announce that the POPCAP prize for contemporary African photography will be offered for the third time in 2014. A panel of 26 internationally-sourced judges will choose the five best submissions, and the five winning works will be exhibited worldwide at major international photography exhibitions. From On the Other Side POPCAP ‘13 exhibition at LagosPhoto Festival, October 2013 POPCAP is a prize for contemporary African photography that is awarded to photographic portfolios that are either produced in an African country or deal with a diaspora of an African country. The competition is open to artists of any age and descent. The series must consist of a minimum of 10 images but must not exceed 25 images. The mobile exhibition will then make its way to PhotoIreland Festival in Dublin, Ireland, and then to Berlin, Germany, to the Cape Town Month of Photography in South Africa, the LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria, and finally to Addis FotoFest in Ethiopia. POPCAP will invite all winners to personally attend at least one of the shows. In addition to inclusion in the exhibitions, the winners’ portfolios will be published in both the POPCAP ‘14 catalog and in European Photography Magazine, and their portfolio will be included in the piclet.org directory for hand-picked photographers’ portfolios. Submissions to POPCAP are judged by a panel of 26 internationally-sourced judges. POPCAP was awarded for the first time in 2012, with five winners chosen from 140 submissions by a panel of nine internationally-sourced judges. In 2013 POPCAP received 360 submissions from 57 countries that were judged by 14 judges. 2014 sees piclet.org offering the prize for contemporary African photography for the third time. POPCAP ‘14 - The Producers POPCAP’14 is a project organisation. The competition was initiated by artist Benjamin Füglister via the online web portal piclet.org and is realised in partnership with the non-profit organisation Liaison, represented by arts manager Angela Nyffeler. POPCAP is a non-profit initiative with the goal of furthering engagement with the African continent within the photographic community. POPCAP offers photographers the opportunity to receive international recognition and exposure to big-name personalities in the art world.
