Welcome
Welcome to the 17th Annual Mashpee Night at the Pops! As President of the Mashpee
Community Concert Committee, and on behalf of our devoted volunteers, I welcome you, your
families, friends and guests to another wonderful musical and fireworks celebration here in the
heart of Mashpee.
The Mashpee Night at the Pops is brought to you through the generous spirit of contributions
from many. Our volunteers spend an entire year planning and coordinating this event. With
their amazing donation of time and spirit we bring you a relaxing summer evening of music and
magic. This year’s program cover artist, Ej Mills Brennan captures the spirit of music and fireworks and the spirit of Mashpee “From Our View.” Please welcome her and consider placing a
bid on her donated artwork being auctioned this evening. It is the spirit of generosity from our
many sponsors that we are able to provide you with the pleasures of a Cape Cod Symphony
Orchestra Pops performance, a magnificent fireworks display and this magical summer evening.
We are delighted to welcome you all to another spectacular summer evening at the Mashpee
Night at the Pops!
Enjoy,
Kenneth E. Marsters

Fife and Drum Corps
www.mashpeepops.com
The Spirit of America Fife and Drum
Corps provides a “living history lesson” by
playing on wooden keyless fifes and rope
tension drums, with uniforms which are
historically authentic replications of those
worn by the 1st U.S. Infantry Regiment in
the War of 1812, down to the pewter buttons hand cast in actual button molds, to
hand-stitched leather “shako” hats with
real ostrich plumes, preserving an important part of our nation’s heritage.
Said MCCC President Ken Marsters,
“This remarkable group of performers not
only creates excitement and precision in
their music, but they also project the
proud sense of patriotism that we seek to
integrate into each year’s Mashpee Night
at the Pops program. We are delighted to
see and hear them perform.”
Based in Orleans, Massachusetts, and
12
the site of a notable skirmish with the
British during the war of 1812, the Fife and
Drum Corps builds on its local history, carrying itself with pride, honoring the
courage and vigilance of the Americans
who fought so that our country might
maintain independence.
The Corps is comprised of members,
ages 12 – 38, from the Spirit of America
Band, the 2006 World Champions of the
World Association of Marching Show
Bands. Most are residents of Cape Cod.
The Spirit of America Band is dedicated to
the pursuit of the ideals upon which our
country was founded. Through the medium of music and marching, Spirit of
America upholds the values of teamwork,
patriotism, and excellence to inspire the
youth of America and audiences of all ages
throughout the world.
The Mashpee Community Concert Committee (MCCC) is a small and
devoted group of volunteers who generously donate their time and efforts
each year toward the production of our much beloved Mashpee Night at
the Pops. This year, one of our volunteers graciously brought our
committee and event up to date and provided us with a brand new
website. www.mashpeepops.com now offers all of the information our
community needs to enjoy the Mashpee Night at the Pops concert.
Please take a moment to look at the wonderful imagery and information
that has been so beautifully coordinated and displayed. Whether you’d
like to order your table for next year, secure your sponsorship level or
place your advertising in our program, our new ww.mashpeepops.com
provides you with a brief history along with the information you or your
company needs.
We invite you to submit your photos for display on this new website! Please
send them to info@mashpeepops.com

Mashpee Night
at the
Pops
Seventeen Phenomenal Years of Pops in Mashpee
The Mashpee Night at the Pops celebrates its 17th year as one of Mashpee’s
outstanding community events. It is brought to you through an all volunteer
committee, The Mashpee Community Concert Committee (MCCC), a diverse
group of volunteers dedicated to offering a magical, musical summer evening
to all. The MCCC gathers monthly throughout the year to coordinate and
enhance the many details required to bring you a fantastic evening of music
and fireworks.
While the original concert in 1987 was coordinated by the Mashpee
Commons Management team and many volunteers, it was quickly recognized
as a successful yet enormous undertaking. A few years later, with the spirit of
community in mind, a few of the original volunteers stepped up and contributed
their time and financial support to create the Mashpee Community Concert
Committee, with a mission to continue to offer an outstanding free concert
event to the entire Mashpee Community.
We are grateful for the time and energy of many individual and family
contributions to the success of the Mashpee Night at the Pops and the Mashpee
Community Concert Committee! We are especially thankful for the Marsters
family’s original and continued support. Through their generosity the MCCC is
able to produce an amazing evening for all to enjoy.
During the off-season this committee works hard to support supplemental
art enrichment programs in our schools each year. For the past few years, the
MCCC has been fortunate enough to be able to bring the Missoula Children’s
Theatre to Mashpee and this year we will embark on a new venture with the
nationally recognized “Young Audiences” program in our schools. Also, we
recently benefited from the generous time and effort of one of our volunteers
who recreated our website www.mashpeepops.com. It now provides a beautiful
and complete outline of all that we do and offer. Please check it out and send
us your favorite Pops photos for us to include on the site!
The MCCC takes great pride in the continued popularity of the annual
Mashpee Night at the Pops and also its efforts to support art enrichment in the
Mashpee community, especially within the Mashpee Schools. A highlight each
year is the awarding of the Donna Lynn Yanoff Memorial scholarship. This
scholarship embraces a student’s desire to continue their education in the arts
and the Yanoff family’s enthusiasm to support art education and art in our
community. We are honored to participate in this celebration with the Yanoff
family, and are thankful for the continued generosity of those who contribute to
this scholarship fund.
We are also honored by our committed sponsors and contributors who
enthusiastically embrace the spirit of the Mashpee Community Concert
Committee and the Mashpee Night at the Pops. Our business partnerships and
artist contributions bring us all together to enjoy a wonderful summer evening
as a community. Please acknowledge our many sponsors and contributors by
visiting them and be sure to mention your enjoyment of tonight’s evening.
Happy 17th Mashpee Night at the Pops!

Donna Lynn Yanoff
Memorial Scholarship
It is a pleasure to report on some of the past recipients:
Ben Healy
Ben has been busy this past year. He went on a tour of Italy
with Salve Regina’s chorus. Ben sang at three cathedrals
and was able to visit Florence, Orvieto, and Rome. Back at
Salve Regina University, Ben performed at the annual
Honors Recital and Noon Recitals. This summer Ben is living
in Newport to pursue music, both solo and with his band.
He is looking forward to his senior year and living the life of
music after graduation.
Jacqueline Reed
Jacqueline has finished her second year at Salve Regina
University in Newport, Rhode Island and has decided to take
the next step in furthering her goals in singing. She is
transferring to Longy School of Music in Cambridge,
Massachusetts where she will be a Vocal Studies major. This
change will allow Jacqueline to have more performance
opportunities and will help her focus her passion for singing
in a concentrated area of study.
Reach for the
Stars...
Hollis Bartlett
Hollis Bartlett will be entering his second year at NYU’s Tisch
School of the Arts as a dance major and minoring in producing. His first year in New York City was amazing and he can’t
wait to get back. Over the past year Hollis was asked to perform in
many student choreographed pieces, including the graduate showcase.
He also performed in the Faculty Workshop in a piece by Gus Solomons Jr. In Hollis’ end-ofthe-year evaluation, the faculty acknowledged him as one of the most improved and focused
students that they had seen in the program in many years. This summer Hollis also had the
opportunity to work with six professional companies over a six-week program, including
Battleworks, David Dorfman Dance, Ronald K Brown, Larry Keigwin & Company, and others.
Hollis wishes to thank to everyone in Mashpee for their support.

The Donna Lynn Yanoff Memorial Scholarship
is a celebration of the life and interests of our much beloved Donna.
Learning was at the center of her being. Our hearts are warmed
by presenting this award annually, and she would be pleased
to know that others will have the advantage of a higher
education because of it. As we celebrate our 11th anniversary awarding this Scholarship, we remain touched by the
continuing generosity of so many who celebrate with our
family and cherish Donna’s memory along with us.
Enrichment of the lives of young people who strive to
learn, grow and enhance their lives through the arts
enriches us all. We applaud their desire for education.
We celebrate the arts. Most of all, we celebrate life.
Our family has enjoyed watching the “cream rise to the top” in
our small community. We thank those in the Mashpee Schools who make our selection
a challenging one each year. We thank our scholars for their hard work and their families who support our budding artists and performers. From our hearts, the Yanoff
Family thanks all of you who so generously contribute to the Donna Lynn Yanoff
Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Please join us in congratulating and wishing well this year’s Scholarship award winner !

2008 Recipient
Patrick Orcutt
The Mashpee Community Concert
Committee is so proud of Mashpee
resident Patrick Orcutt, this year’s
recipient of the Donna Lynn Yanoff
Memorial Scholarship. He began participating in theatre at the age of nine
with the Missoula Children’s Theatre.
His interest in the performing arts and
his talent became more evident in high
school, while appearing in productions
such as Check Please, Footloose, Up the Down
Staircase, and Bye Bye Birdie. During his time at
Mashpee High School Patrick was active in the nationally ranked Mashpee
High School Concert Choir and was a member of the A Capella’s. He was
active in many clubs including the Human Rights Club, Ski Club, Music
Council, Key Club, and was elected as Class President during his freshmen,
sophomore, junior and senior years.
