The mission of this Network is to promote sustainable tourism
in the region through the strengthening of tourism initiatives
based on mutual respect and recognition, joint efforts,

work tools among network members and a joint marketing
strategy, the generation of a set of "best management
practices" for sustainable tourism based on existing regionally
and nationally accepted standards, and the definition of

The Green Grotto Caves
The Central feature of this natural attraction is the large labyrinthine
limestone cave with its numerous rock formations, its stalactites,
stalagmites and abundance of overhead ceiling pockets.
Green Grotto is 1.525 meters long and 12 meters deep and is
characterized by numerous chambers and light holes and a
subterranenanlake -The Grotto Lake- occupies its bowels
YS Falls
YS Falls opened in 1990. It is a nature-based attraction offering the
opportunity to experience the beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by flora
and fauna, many indigenous to the area (eg. Bromeliads).
There are seven waterfalls, several which cascade into natural pools.
Some areas are fairly rocky and do not allow swimming. Lifeguards son
site, indicate which areas are for swimming, however, being able to swim
is a requirement. There is a natural pool, fed by underground and above
ground springsm which is more suitable for children and others unable to
swim.

At the waterfalls, there are changing rooms and an enviromentally
friendly toilet (compost). There are many underground springs feeding
local water supplies, so all efforts are made to protect these underground
water supplies. For younger children, there is a playground.

Green Globe 21
GREEN GLOBE 21 is the worldwide benchmarking and
certification program which facilitates sustainable travel and
tourism for consumers, companies and communities. It is based
on Agenda 21 and principles for Sustainable Development
endorsed by 182 governments at the United Nations Rio de
Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992. There are 4 GREEN GLOBE 21
Standards - The GREEN GLOBE 21 Company Standard; the
GREEN GLOBE 21 Standard for Communities; the International
Ecotourism Standard; and the Design and Construct Standard.
GREEN GLOBE 21 has continuously lifted performance
thresholds for sustainable tourism. The World Travel & Tourism
Council (WTTC) developed GREEN GLOBE in 1993 and it was
officially launched in 1994 as a membership and commitmentbased program. It was expanded in 1999 with the introduction of
the GREEN GLOBE 21 Standard and commencement of
independent auditing. It was further upgraded in May 2001, as
part of continuous leading-edge improvement. It now includes
actual measurement of environmental improvements through
Benchmarking on an annual basis.
