CSOF RECIPIENT OF OUTSTANDING GRANT MAKING FOUNDATION AWARD
At the October 3rd Partners in Philanthropy luncheon, the Colorado Springs
Osteopathic Foundation was presented with the 2012 Outstanding Grant Making
Foundation award. Dr. Thomas Higginbotham and Doris Ralston received this
prestigious tribute on behalf of our Foundation. This award recognizes a foundation
that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support,
encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles in philanthropy.
Martha Barton, President & CEO of Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care nominated
our Foundation for this award and was supported by the Dr. Lori Bryan with the CU
Aging Center, Trudy Strewler-Hodges - CASA and Patricia Ellis -Silver Key Senior
Services. Many thanks to the nonprofit leaders in our community for nominating our
Foundation, as well as to our Grant Selection Advisory Committee and Board, for
their work. Other Foundation members in attendance were William Dulaney, Esq.,
Lynne Jones, Penny Sayre, C.P.A., Curry Horak, M.D., and John Drabing, D.O.
The purpose of Partners in Philanthropy is to “recognize and celebrate, gifts, giving,
philanthropy and donors. Their goal is to make the community more aware of the
admirable record of charitable giving and volunteer commitment, generosity and
compassion present in the Pikes Peak region.”

In the September/October issue of Colorado Springs Style magazine, 12 D.O.s

Medical Reserve Corps
El Paso County
The purpose of our local
Medical Reserve Corps is to
assure the health and safety
of El Paso County. Our
community’s Medical Reserve
Corps volunteers made a huge
impact this summer aiding the
families affected by the Waldo
Canyon Fire. I am certain that
you join me in recognizing and
thanking these individuals for
their selflessness. There are
ongoing volunteer opportunities
for medical, public health
professionals and non-medical
volunteers. And training is
provided. To find out more

Admiral Hyman Rickover, father of our nuclear Navy, once said that “Organizations
don’t get things done. Plans and programs don’t get things done. Only people get
things done.” As I am in awe by all that our Foundation accomplishes, it is because
of our members (people) and non-member donors who are committed, passionate
and believe in our Foundation. Each of our members and non-member donors
should feel great pride in our Foundation receiving the Outstanding Grant Making
Foundation Award for 2012. Each of you contributed in some way so that we may
have an impact on children with disabilities, seniors who need transportation to
medical appointments, working families who have no health insurance and need
care, and more. Through our grant program we help make our community safer,
healthier and more compassionate. And that is what philanthropy is all about:
touching and changing lives.
So I look forward to seeing you at our October 23rd Membership Meeting to celebrate
our achievements, learn something new and have fun being with your colleagues
and friends. KIDPOWER RECEIVES GRANT
Dr. Thomas Higginbotham presents grant
