About Mysterion
How would it be to change the past? Sometimes we wish we could go back there, travel in time,
in order to undo an event. To shift a little detail, to say „no instead of „yes , to decide
differently. Yet what has happened before is strong; and the patterns and traditions we are
informed by cannot simply be reformulated. The rituals and mechanics we make use of cannot
be reinvented. But there s a need to find new forms of ritual to give us the power to face what
lies in the future.
For his new work „Mysterion , dancer and choreographer Kiriakos (adjiioannou has
researched on shamanism and everyday rituals. Results have been connected with show and
spectacle, with dance and theatre. Each evening, another different group of initiates is invited
to join the performers on stage in order to produce a new, unique ceremony. Researched
materials are combined with self-developed movements, with set design and costumes, with
light and music.

Performers
Tamara Bacci (CH) studied classical ballet und contemporary dance at Ballet Junior de Genève, directed by
Beatriz Consuelo. She danced at Deutsche Oper Berlin, at Bejart Ballet Lausanne, at NDT/kylian, and with
Compagnie Linga. Since 2003, she has danced with Foofwa d'Immobilité, Thomas Lebrun, Ken Ossola, Juan
Dominguez, Gilles Jobin, Estelle Héritier, Perrine Valli, and Cie Quivala. During 11 years, she has developed a
special affinity with choreographer Cindy Van Acker. Bacci has also worked with theatre directors Romeo
Castellucci, Pascal Rambert, Guillaume Béguin, and Fabrice Gorgerat. She s the actress in Jean Gabriel Perriot s
short movie Si jamais nous devons disparaître ce sera… , together with Michel Cloup Duo. She created
/
with choreographer Ken Ossola, and Laissez moi danser with Marthe Krummenacher and Perrine Valli. She
teaches at Ballet Junior de Genève, HETSR in Lausanne, Conservatoire de Genève, and for different professional
companies. She does yoga research with Jean Lechim in Lausanne.
Romain Brau (F) is Paris fashion designer and performer and has his own haute couture label. He says he is
like a maelstrom; dip a toe in his world and you may never come back to reality. A graduate of the Royal
Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he designs costumes, suits, and outfits that cite baroque clothing and
tradional folkloristic fashion, with myriads of fur, leather, feathers, and crystals, things that he chose as his
luxury materials of his choice. Brau has co-founded the Concept Store RA, and is permanently working as the
unique designer of the LISKA fur brand in Vienna. For his work, Brau has won the Tommy Hilfiger award.
Kiriakos Hadjiioannou (GR) is a Basel based dance artist. His work focuses on various aspects of
choreography, movement, space, art and ritual, within a historical and political context with the aim to make
history tangible and accessible. He is exploring current developments in the performing arts, concerning
questions of communication, specific production networks and cognitive developments in socio-cultural
activities. His latest works are «Le Sacre du Printemps – Suite Bâloise», and «Oder wem gehört die Welt». He
signs the choreography in the Jean Dubuffet exhibition in Fondation Beyeler.
Tian Rotteveel (NL) studied musical composition at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (NL), dance at
SEAD (AU), and choreography at HZT Berlin. In his work, sound is a process that materialises in music, in
language, but also in sheer sensation. Tian has collaborated with MAE-Ensemble, Rosa Ensemble, Igor Dobricic,
Diego Gil, David Zambrano, Jeremy Wade, Lea Martini, and Kristina de Châtel. His latest works are

Nancy Stamatopoulou (GR) works in performance and visual arts. As a performer, she danced, amongst
others, in the ensemble of the National Theatre of Greece in Thessaloniki and in Athens. She has realised her
own projects in performance and visual arts that have been presented in theatres and museums. Her latest work
is the durational performance White Cave in Abramovic s As One exhibition in Benaki Museum Athens.
Simon Wehrli (CH) studied theatre in Scuola Teatro Dimitri in Verscio (CH), and contemporary dance in
Trinity Laban London UK . As a dancer, actor, and musician, he s been part of many projects in Europe, the
U.S. and Africa. Amongst others, he s worked for Judith Sanchéz Ruiz, David Zambrano, and Nicole Seiler.
Wehrli works as a choreographer, and he also teaches dance technique and improvisation.
Matan Zamir (IL) is a Berlin based choreographer and performer. He studied at Kibbutz Contemporary Dance
School and at Bat Dor Dance School in Tel Aviv. In 1996, he joined Batsheva Dance Company. In 2002, he moved
to Berlin and became part of Sasha Waltz & Guests. In 2005, together with Nicola Mascia, he founded
the collaborative duo matanicola. Their body of work includes 7 evening-length pieces, site-specific
creations, installations and improvisation projects. He also collaborated with choreographers such as Ohad
Naharin, Yasmeen Godder, Benoît Lachambre and artists such as Peaches, Junko Wada, Hanayo, Julian
Rosefeldt, AlexandLiane. Besides choreography and performance, Zamir is regularly teaching contemporary
dance classes and the intensive movement research workshop The unlearning process internationally.
Artistic team backstage
Jost von Harlessem (D) studied Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen. He works as a developer, performer, and
technician for theatre productions. (e s always looking for specific solutions concerning live electronics, and
video and light design. As a technical creator, he works in Basel, Frankfurt, Giessen, and Köln. One of his last
performances was Opa “bt , together with FUX, at Kaserne Basel s Treibstoff Festival.
Martin Schick (CH) is an actor, freelancing choreographer and performer. After private ballet school, he
studied theatre and performance at Hochschule der Künste in Bern. His work could be shown internationally.
His artistic intent is to build up spaces of permanent transformation as counter-models to standardisation. He
massively changes structures of theatrical contexts, and provokes contradictions.
Bernhard Siebert (D) did his theatre, film and media studies in Vienna and Rennes. He was head of PR and
Media in Sophiensaele Berlin from 2007 to 2010, and worked as an assistant to the direction in Theater
Neumarkt Zürich from 2010 to 2013. At the moment, he works as researcher and lecturer at the Institute for
Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen.
Urs August Steiner (CH) studied scenography at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, and fine arts at California
College of the Arts in San Francisco, as well as at Ecole Cantonale d art de Lausanne. (is works were to be seen
internationally in different group and solo exhibitions, such as MoCA Pavillion in Shanghai, Despacio in Costa
Rica, or Splatterpool in New York. )n
, Steiner won the Kunsthaus Glarus s Fokus-Preis.
Anna Papst (CH) is an author and theatre director. She has worked as an assistant at Theater Basel, with
Sebastian Nübling, and Rafael Sanchez. Her piece «Summer is a state of mind» was invited to the festivals
Interplay Europe and Kaltstart Hamburg. In 2011, Papst did a Master s degree at Z“rcher (ochschule der K“nste.
Her pieces have been shown, amongst others, at Theater Neumarkt Zürich, Fabriktheater Rote Fabrik Zürich,
Theaterspektakel Zürich, Südpol Luzern, and Philharmonie Luxemburg.
