The Club initiated “Romp” – Over 50 runners participated in the first run. The Library has lots of new books. Unfortunately the unprecedented rains have kept the swimmers away, however we hope we’ll see more of them as the weather improves. Presidents Message Dear Members, The year has gone by quickly and December is already here. The Club will be buzzing with activity this month. Members and their guests can look forward to lots of entertainment and exciting times. The Club is bustling with activity. Whist & Bridge pack the hall on Mondays & Tuesdays. I-browse on the 10th, featured the book “The House that BJ built” by Anuja Chauhan who was gracious enough to be present and interact with our Members, and, “What’s a Good Word” held on the 13th were well attended. On Sunday 6th December, we begin the Season by hosting over 600 less fortunate children for a day at the Club. The CCOT team ensures the children have a good time on the day and also get to take back some useful goodies. This event is made possible by contributions from our Members and their friends. I request Members to be proactive and contribute in cash or kind and join the CCOT team on the day to witness the joy and happiness we are able to spread. If you haven’t visited us over the last month, I hope I have convinced you not to miss out any longer! As we go to print, the Club is hosting a Blues Band for some wonderful blues music. A few days later Diageo will host a single malt whiskey tasting evening. All interesting events for our Members! This is then followed by the Elders’ Evening, 5 Day Christmas Bazaar, Children’s Evening, Carols by Candle Light, Cake & Wine on Christmas Eve , Super Bumper Housie on Christmas Day, our signature Yuletide Ball and then we bring in the New Year. On behalf of the Managing Committee, I take this opportunity to wish you and your families Happy Holidays and hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas season. November 2015 has also been an active month. We had a grand show for Diwali. The rain gods blessed us and ensured over 80 Club members; including a few charming men, many young girls and ladies, along with the little ones, put together a CC Bollywood Awards Night that was appreciated by a very large crowd. We need to thank the sporting members who practiced long hours to give us a glamorous night. The MICEntertainment Mr. Naveen Mendonca and his Sub Committee have worked hard to entertain us. A big thanks to all of them. Alton Viegas President Entertainment On the 6th of November, over 12 of our young achievers were presented with certificates and awards in recognition of their excellence in academics. Housie has bounced back as well and the Rummy knockouts were well attended. The Health Club has regained its earlier glory and so has the Sportico with our Members taking advantage of our Badminton and This year’s Bollywood Night was a blockbuster event with the theme Catholic Club Film Awards with 80 of our Members taking part, which was followed by DJ Jasmeet who pumped up the crowd with Bollywood 2 tunes. Amanda Santiago MIC 5 After trying almost all options at getting fit, I decided to try - what I thought then as - “another option”. Working out was tough no doubt and required a lot of dedication but I can definitely say now with all the confidence “it was worth it and hard work pays off “! Health Club The inaugural edition of the ROMP run had over 40 members between the ages 13 and 67 participating and running a distance of 3 kms and 5 kms on a pleasant Sunday morning. It was very encouraging to witness their enthusiasm and we look forward to welcoming more runners at the next ROMP run that will be held on Sunday 13th December at 6 AM. Many thanks to my Sub-Committee Members Maya, Nasreen, Nelson and Rizwan and Gym instructors Wayne and Suresh for making this happen. Our gratitude to Nissim, Thomas and Ramu for their guidance and assistance. Thank you. Wayne, the fitness expert at the Club, made working out a lot easier and interactive. His motivation and guidance definitely helped me through the years. The feel good factor and results are strong motivators to keep me going back and now I cannot imagine my life without my one and a half hour Monday to Friday gym session. So what are you waiting for…Make no excuses and get fit! Lisa Ross Motivational Quote: Fitness is more than a PHYSICAL challenge. It’s a MENTAL one! Member testimonial - 2 Many years ago as a young boy I would go through fitness magazines and watch people in the gym lifting weights, sculpting their bodies to near perfection and dreamed of one day doing so myself. Being extremely skinny brought out a sense of insecurity and therefore I lacked self confidence. Tushar Fernandes MIC Member testimonial - 1 Five years ago I would have never imagined that I would be 4 sizes smaller and wearing the clothes I do now plus feeling as confident as ever. On Friday the 11th, we will be hosting an evening of fun, food and games for all green baize players. Interested members may register their names with the markers by the 10th along with an entry fee of Rs 100/-. Under the guidance of the fitness expert Wayne and the facilities provided by the Catholic Club, I pushed myself everyday in the gym, accompanied with the right nutrition, I was amazed to see how a body can be transformed with a little effort and determination. Golden Greats Tournament will commence on Monday the 7th. Interested members may register their names with the markers by the 6th. So all I can say after this one and a half year is “Don’t wish for a body……work for it” Paul Ross Working out at the Club opened my eyes to the benefits of fitness and eating right. 25 kilograms lighter from when I first started, the gym has not only become a part of my lifestyle but has also shifted from “another option” to the “ONLY OPTION”. Members may now avail of a free body analysis done on a special machine to ascertain their body composition stats. Those interested may contact Wayne and Suresh in the Gym. The Gym continues to see new Members signing up and making use of the top class equipment and the expertise of our trainers to achieve their fitness goals. Look forward to seeing many more at the Gym. Billiards But all that changed when I decided to join the gym a year and a half ago. Congratulations to Michael Rebello and Sean Davis for finishing Winner and Runner-up respectively, in the Club Open Billiards Tournament. Congratulations to Sean Davis for ranking 4th in the State Open Snooker Tournament conducted by KSBA. Shankar Hegde Congratulations to the winners: 1st Place : Gavin Cordeiro 2nd Place: Edwin David While the first tournament saw a keenly contested Final with the game going to the wire, in the second tournament the finalists decided to share the prize money. Runners Up: Meera R Vinod Verghese Colleen Saunders Patrick Mascarenhas Paul Augustus Claude Huddleston A big thank you to Hemanth Rao for sponsoring the sweet boxes for the Diwali Day fun evening in the Department HAVE A GREAT SEASON!! Gavin Cordeiro MIC Watch out for the following dates in December: Sat 12th 4.00p.m. Bumper Rummy KOT (21) Entry fee: Member Rs.500/- Guest Rs.1000/Last date for giving in entries with payment is Fri 11th Dec. Sun 20th 11.00a.m. Bumper Rummy KOT (13) Entry fee : Member Rs. 300/- Guest Rs.500/12 Just a little rain, had all our iBrowse members scurrying for cover and sadly, Anuja Chauhan had a small turnout for her book reading of ‘The House that BJ Built.’ But, the small audience was perfect for Tulip and everyone who attended, were charmed by Anuja’s warmth and hilarious reading of passages out of her book. From the word go, Anuja made herself comfortable in an almost yogic pose on her chair and we were treated to her flamboyant side, which mimicked everyone from the Thakur girls to the Delhi police, who featured in her novel. In fact, by the end of the evening, people were buying more than one book to give away as gifts to friends. The Winners: Rosalind Vieyra, Sean Davis, Rebecca Vieyra. Like any other author, Anuja delves into her personal life and otherwise, to form her characters. Margaret Alva who is Anuja’s MIL very frankly said -- we all have to mind what we say around Anuja, because we might get quoted in her next book -- to which Anuja assured the audience that she was very clever in mixing up the characters, so that the person often can never be sure it is them and comes to check with her. Our next author is Jenny Mallin coming all the way from London with her book -- ‘ A Grandmother’s Legacy’ which is a memoir of five generations of her family who lived through the British Raj in India. The book shares both anecdotes and Anglo Indian recipes and should be an interesting talk for all lovers of Bangalore’s history. The date is on the 4th of December to accommodate Jenny and of course we all will get busy closer to Christmas. So block the 4th December at 6pm in the Ballroom. All are welcome! Runners up: Anil, Vibha, Nikhil and Rhea. 3rd Place: Manoj, Indhu, Shashank and Nasreen. Congratulations to all of you. The next edition will be held on Friday, 11th December from 7:00 pm. Be there to join in the fun or just as part of the audience. 13 Books Youth A lot of new books have been added for adults and children. We are also revamping the list of magazines subscribed to. So look forward to plenty of reading matter – if you have the time to read in this hectic month of December!! Gavin Cordeiro MIC Marianne de Nazareth Sub – Committee Member CCOT November 6th was an evening with a difference. Cordeiro welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the evening.
