If someone who didn’t know she was a student had walked in half way through they would have thought Shannon was a teacher taking the assembly! Shannon was able to keep the audience’s attention and produced an excellent Powerpoint presentation giving details of the plans the Student Union have for fundraising and the Summer Ball. Shannon is certainly a budding public speaker! Mrs Divine UCAS Applications Update The deadline for UCAS applications was the 15th January and our students have been receiving some fantastic offers. Gwenda Boniface Examinations Manager 020 8370 1924— exams@edmonton.enfield.sch.uk ENRICHMENT DAY - EXPRESSIVE ARTS FACULTY 2016 A- LEVEL ART, TEXTILE AND PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENTS VISIT LONDON GALLERIES On the first Enrichment day of 2016 the Expressive Arts faculty organised a trip to visit a Selection of Galleries in central London for all the A level Art, Textiles and Photography students. This was an opportunity to experience new galleries that the students hadn’t visited before and to see current exhibitions. The experience would help to provide valuable and relevant research for their A level exam projects. The students attended the new ‘Champagne Life‘ exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery. The exhibition celebrates the work of female artists and provides an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a female artist working today.- www.saatchigallery.com/artists/champagne-life Rozenn Logan, Head of Education at the Saatchi Gallery, has a close liaison with Edmonton County School, regularly working with the Art department and our Gifted and Talented students. Rozenn provided the students with a very detailed tour of the exhibition, providing in-depth information about the different artists and the ideas behind the all-female exhibition. The majority of the students had never been to the Saatchi Gallery so they were very enthusiastic and inspired by the experience. ‘It was my first time visiting the Saatchi Gallery - it was nice to see less traditional and up and coming female artists, it really inspired me’ Eve Davis Year 13 Art student The students then attended a self guided tour of Tate Britain in Millbank and explored the ‘500 years of British Art at Tate Britain’ which included the ‘BP spotlight’ and ‘Conceptual Art - 1964-1979’. The students had a lot to say about the different types of Art they could see including Tracey Emins ‘My Bed’ installation 1998. ‘Art is something that should make you stop and think and the exhibitions really helped me do that’ Leanne Potter year 12 - Art/Textiles and Photography student ‘Visiting lots of galleries had not been done before so this trip was a really good idea - I found it very interesting and it will really help me develop my exam project’ Clarisse Dohmatob year 13 Art student ‘The Saatchi Gallery showed me that an art gallery is not just about a room of paintings - it was exciting, different and modern. I hadn’t seen anything like this before - I was really inspired’ Luke Roberts year 12 Photography student ‘It was fantastic welcoming Edmonton’s AS and A-Level Art students to the Saatchi Gallery last week. The students were engaged and made some very interesting points in relation to the Champagne Life exhibition tour and, as ever, their teachers Ms Shilvock and Mrs Jimenez were extremely supportive and encouraged discussion. I’m looking forward to seeing how their artwork has been inspired by the show!’ Rozenn Logan- Head of Education - Saatchi Gallery Thank you to all the staff and students that attended the trip and contributed to a very successful enrichment day. Ms Jane Shilvock - Head of Expressive Arts Faculty Target Medicine Summer School This is A UCL Medical School outreach project aimed at Year 11 students from London-based, non-selective state schools who are thinking of studying medicine at university. Mrs M Smith & Ms Charlton - IAG HIGHER EDUCATION FAIR. WEDNESDAY 24TH FEBRUARY- CAMBS CAMPUS HALL We are pleased to be hosting our own Higher Education Fair in Cambridge Hall between 1pm-4.00pm on 24th February. We have around 25 universities attending and this will give students in year 11 the opportunity to see what they could study at university and what subjects would be good to choose for their A Levels. It will also help year 12 students as they begin to go through the UCAS process and decide what they would like to study and where, if university is an option that they are considering. Parents of students in Year 12 are welcome to attend between 3-4.00pm if they wish. M. We had a guided tour around Newnham and Trinity/Claire College, and heard first hand from current undergraduates about what they are studying, what their interview had been like, what extra-curricular things they are involved in and so on. Several of our students said they had been inspired to apply, having heard about the range of subjects that are available, and having had some of the myths that surround studying at Oxbridge dismissed. Who knows where they will end up next year?! Mrs M Smith Year 10 Vaccinations—Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio and Meningitis ACWY Your child will soon bring home a consent form for the impending vaccines which are due to take place immediately after our return from half term on 23rd February 2016 for all year 10 students on Bury Campus and 24th February 2016 for all year 10 students on Cambridge Campus.
