Several aspects regarding the Romanian support of the project:
• The Romanian government supported this project from the beginning – declaring
the project “project of national strategic scientific research importance” in 2013.
• On October 7 2014 – the Romanian government approved the preparatory actions
regarding the construction of the International Center for Advanced Studies on River –
Sea Systems – DANUBIUS-RI.
• DANUBIUS-RI was included in 2014 in the 2014-2020, national research strategy.
• Under Romanian coordination, the proposal for a pan-European infrastructure was
developed, supported by diplomatic and politic efforts to promote the project
• the project was submitted for ESFRI evaluation in March 2015, to be included on the
2016 ESFRI roadmap
DANUBIUS –RI
•DANUBIUS-RI (first module) was financed by the Romanian Ministry of Education/
National Authority for Scientific Research and Innovation and was completed in 2015
and was officially opened on September 23rd, 2015.
•The module is configured as a small scale research base, with a single building
comprising an underground floor and a first floor, with a foot print of 647, 85 sq. m,
total built area is 913, 95 sqm.
•The construction aims at becoming a manifest for the reinterpretation of the local
traditional architectural values, in the area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation.
•lab area, conference area for the researchers.

•Several conferences were hosted in Murighiol:
•The Symposium “Modern approaches in sustainable development of Danube Delta”,
September 24th , 2015
•Inter-University Cooperation in the Black Sea Region Conference, October 23rd , 2015
•“Modern Biotechnologies in Sustainable Development of the Danube Delta”, May 31June 2nd , 2016

What is next?
• The application for the preparatory phase (implement the ESFRI recommendations,
detailing and improvement of the scientific project, etc…) – June 2016
• Application for Structural Funds (Spring 2017)
• Socio-Economic analysis for the Hub and DD Supersite
• Environmental impact study (taking into account climate change adaptation,
construction permits, conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora,
assessment of effects on water bodies, urban waste water management )
• Technical and scientific needs of the Hub and DD Supersite
• Cost-benefit analysis (financial analysis, economic analysis, sensitivity analysis, risk
assessment)
• Feasibility study (demand analysis, option analysis, feasibility option selected)
