Church Street, Schenectady Music drawn from our first four Macabre Music programs, including our signature Danse Macabre, plus a new work written expressly for the concert by Peter Fitzgerald. As always, expect wonderful, unique and scary music in a fun, theatrical presentation with some surprises! Saturday, October 31, 6 PM, A Taste of Europe Restaurant, Cobleskill, NY Can violent felons be cured by music? Psychiatrist-conductor Cornwall Mellish believes so. At a dinner party featuring a performance by an ensemble of misfits and maniacs, he is successfully presenting the proof of his research – until someone disproves Dr. Mellish’s theory by murdering him. You’re one of the psychiatrists in attendance, but you won’t need your DSM-5. You’ll be solving the mystery and identifying the killer by following the clues that point to a complicated series of relationships...and a thirst for revenge! The concerts last approximately an hour and a reception is held between performances. All concert previews are free, held from 11:20 -12:10 in the Carl Taylor Auditorium at Schenectady County Community College, and no reservations are required. CONCERT NO. 3 u Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 3 PM The Joy of Frets First Reformed Church, 8 N. Church Street, Schenectady Guest artist guitarist Joel Brown joins members of Musicians of Ma’alwyck for an afternoon of music for two guitars and strings. Music of de Fossa and Vivaldi is paired with modern crossover works, including some of Joel Brown’s own arrangements. Joel Brown, guitar CONCERT NO. 4 u Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 3 PM and 5 PM Of that Sweet Dream I Sing Schuyler Mansion, 32 Catherine Street, Albany Music for violin, guitar and violoncello by Dotzauer, Hoffmann, and others is paired with readings of poetry written by Goethe. It’s a perfect way to celebrate spring. The concerts last approximately an hour and a reception is held between performances. Goethe CONCERT NO. 5 u Thursday, June 2, 7 PM Coffee Houses & Curtain Raisers! Brett Wery clarinet First Reformed Church, 8 N. Church Street, Schenectady Bach’s Fifth Brandenburg Concerto, the Harpsichord Concerto by Manuel de Falla, and the jazz ballet La Revue de Cuisine by Czech composer Bohuslav Martin are all on this rich musical menu. Musicians of Ma’alwyck will be joined by guest artists - Karen Hosmer, oboe; Brett Wery, clarinet; and Krassimir Ivanov, bassoon. Guest conductor William Jon Gray, choral director of Chicago’s acclaimed Music of the Baroque, also doubles as harpsichord soloist. We are especially delighted to feature the much-admired Puppet People, who will create a delightful visual presentation of La Revue de Cuisine. A DECLARATION OF SENTIMENTS March 2016 Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Elizabeth Cady Stanton with music of American women composers: Marion Bauer, Amy Beach, Maude Powell, and a new work by Kathleen Ballantyne, based on Suffragette writings. Stanton’s “The Declaration of Rights and Sentiments,” 1848, modeled on the American Declaration of Independence, anchored the movement. Musicians of Ma’alwyck will join the Siena College Choirs and the Ten Broeck Mansion for a unique series of events celebrating the Women’s Suffrage Movement. A City of Immigrants Sunday, April 3, 4 PM, Troy Music Hall, Troy, NY Musicians of Ma’alwyck joins Albany Pro Musica, the Capital District Youth Chorale, and Saratoga Springs Nacre Dance in a musical homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Capital Region. Albany’s nickname “City of Immigrants” inspired this unique concert, featuring music from the Dutch, German, English, Italian, Polish, African-American, Asian, Irish, Jewish, and Hispanic cultures that have influenced our region.
