T O M M Y’ S B I G B I R T H D AY The Wiggles LOVE going to birthday parties. They drove to Tommy’s party in the Big Red Car. Henry the Octopus, Wags the Dog, Dorothy the Dinosaur and Captain Feathersword were already there. They met lots of friends in a park. It was their friend Tommy’s third birthday. Anthony knew that Tommy has an allergy to milk and eggs so he let everyone know not to share any food with Tommy. Wags the Dog gave Tommy some wiggly presents including some lollies. Oops….the wiggly snakes are lollies. Wags forgot not to share food with Tommy. “Stop!” said Tommy. “Mummy, are these safe for me?” Anthony quickly handed them to Tommy’s Mum to check if they had milk or eggs in them. If they did, Tommy could not eat them because he would get sick. All good! Tommy ate the wiggly snakes. They were delicious. Tommy reminded Wags, he is only allowed to eat food that his Mum and Dad say is safe to eat. Emma and Simon told Henry the Octopus that Tommy’s parents always carry special medicine if Tommy needs it. When the friends played Pass the Parcel, Tommy won a wiggly colouring book. “YAY!” Tommy squealed with joy. Tommy has to be careful with food he eats but he can still win prizes and have lots of great fun! Tommy’s Mum asked The Wiggles to help with goodies for the party bags. Tommy and all his friends got stickers, stamps, crayons, bouncy balls and streamers. All the children wrapped Tommy in streamers. They laughed when he toppled over and they stumbled and fell too. They loved their friend and they loved to help keep him safe. And……… Tommy’s Mum had made a fantastic wiggly cake with no eggs or milk so Tommy could have it and share it with all his friends. Dorothy said she needs to know more about food allergies because some of her friends cannot eat foods like peanuts or wheat or fish either. Dorothy knows it is safer to share smiles and stories with them but not food. Anthony agreed how important it was to care for others, to help keep everyone safe and to support those that have to do some things a little bit differently. “Thank you for coming to my party,” smiled Tommy when it was time for everyone to go home. The Wiggles and their friends waved goodbye. “Good-bye me hearties,” called Captain Feathersword. “It was a great party,” said Anthony, “and the best thing was that we all knew it was important to keep Tommy safe from eating food that would make him sick.” This eBook was developed by Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia in conjunction with Alphapharm Pty Ltd, ABN 93 002 359 739, Level 1, 30 The Bond, 30–34 Hickson Road, Millers Point NSW 2000.
