Club Officers: President Ken Scott President’s Message Happy New Year’s Coastal Carolina Corvette Club!!! I hope this year will be fun and exciting as the 2014 year. After all, we are a car club that has a lot of pride when we are involved in community events and other functions throughout the Lowcountry area Activities and other areas in the country. This year started off with excitement and joy with installment of new officers and of course, Kim Sheldon new members. With that being said for our new members -­‐ WELCOME ABOARD!! Some of the events that are kicking of this 2015 New Years is the famous Chili Cook Off and the 24 Rolex of Daytona. I have to VP – Social admit a good fellowship with some superb chili and a good race for twenty-­‐four hours is definitely a exciting combination to Activities have for the month of January. I would also like to extend a big thank you to Fred and Mishel Warner for hosting the chili cook off. Another big upcoming 2015 event that is just around the corner of the month of April is our eighth annual Vetts Doin’ Kris Daugherty Charleston. This event does require a lot of preparation and volunteers to help this quality event on the move real quick. We are VP – Membership going to be in need of a chair/co-­‐chair person of the Vetts Doin’ Charleston event and volunteers to help out to make this extraordinary event in the Lowcountry area a huge success. Christine Van Leir As it was mentioned a few months back before I was elected president of this Corvette Club, we need to attend and respectfully Secretary show support to the other car club events throughout the local Lowcountry area. After all, we are owners of America’s sport car Liz Furmanek and I would think this would enhance our prestige and presence showing our support and cars. I would like to go as a caravan and other ideals are highly encourage from the club members to express a better way. Treasurer Well, I’m looking forward to this 2015 year to be fun and safe. I’m quite sure some other events will arise and the challenge will Jim Buckley come for this Corvette Club to make the appropriate decision to do what is best for this Corvette Club. 8th ANNUAL “VETTES DOIN’ CHARLESTON” SHOW Things are starting to come together for our VDC show this year. We are still in need of a great deal of club participation in our committees especially helping to solidify sponsors and vendors. We also need a show chair or chairpersons to assist me or me to assist them. Our February VDC planning meeting will be at 2pm -­‐2:30pm prior to our regular business meeting. So please plan to attend. The more the merrier. Below are some of the areas we are currently seeking club members’ help with: SPONSORS AND VENDORS: Don Cuicci and Bob Driscoll have gotten a great start in the Mt Pleasant area talking to businesses re: sponsorship. I have touched base with a couple of club members to assist in the West Ashley and North Charleston area. However, that does not mean that we cannot use your help or ideas. So please if you know of someone who may be interested in sponsorship or being a vendor, please contact me via email and I will get you the info you need to go speak with them. Or if you wish to assist with this area of show planning please contact me. MEET AND GREET: We are in need of a chair person(s) for the Friday evening Meet and Greet for all club members and our pre-­‐registrants. This will be held at the Holiday Inn at Tanger starting at 6 PM. We ask that club members help by providing a dish and helping serve our guests feel welcome. This is a time when we show our southern hospitality. Please contact me if you are interested in helping chair this event. We have plenty of time to work on this. Some of the other areas we are asking for help: •

Person(s) to contact businesses such as Ecklers, Michelin, Corvette Central, Midamerica etc for goodies to distribute in goody bags or as door prizes •

Judging cars This show is the largest we have every year. We have had great success with this show and have received many compliments every year. I am certain that 2015 will be no different. We appreciate everyone helping with the planning and the Meet and Greet and the show! It is all of our club members that makes this show possible and so successful. COMPETITIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – Kim Sheldon It is exciting to think of another year starting with upcoming shows and events. Please check the Post and Courier automotive section weekly on Fridays to see what is happening on the local scene. This is a great opportunity to support other car clubs and events in the area. January events: •
Charleston Cars and Coffee hold a free cruise in from 8am – 11am in front of the Atlanta Bread Co in Mt Pleasant Towne Center every Saturday morning. •
Sea Islands holds a monthly Cars and Coffee cruising from 8am – 10am at Freshfields Village at the cross roads of Kiawah, Seabrook and Johns Islands. Their next one is Saturday January 17th. They would love to see some Corvettes. •
In Greenville from January 16-­‐18 is the South Carolina International Auto Show at the Convention Center. For more info please see the Post and Courier Car Calendar. •
Street Rods Unlimited will sponsor an evening cruise in at 5pm at the Sonic on College Park Drive in Goose Creek. This is held the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The next one is January 24th. It would be nice to support them with some of our Vettes coming to their cruise in. •
Several club members will be attending the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway this year on January 24-­‐25. We will be there supporting our C7R racing teams in the #3 and #4 Corvettes as well as the several Corvette Daytona Prototype teams who will be racing. February events: •

Belated Congratulations to John & Pam Emanuele who celebrated their wedding anniversary on January 6 . This was accidentally omitted in the December newsletter. Chuck Lebrun is in need of some good vibrations being sent his way. He continues to battle some health issues and his year ended on a sour note when his Corvette was hit. Chuck was not injured, but the Corvette is in need of repairs. Good Luck and Good Health Chuck! 4
THIS MONTH IN CORVETTE HISTORY January 17, 1953 – The prototype Corvette “Dream Car” is displayed at the Motorama show at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. January 1999 – at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Chevy debuted the GT2 class C5R Corvette racecar. Ron Fellows & Chris Kneifel drive one to third in GTS Class. REMINDERS Membership Renewal for 2015 – Membership renewal for 2015 is now past due! Dues are $30 for Single membership and $40 for Family/Dual membership plus the $10 reinstatement fee. Dues may be paid at the February meeting or mailed to VP of Membership at the address on the form. The forms are on the website under “Membership Info” MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY & CLUB BYLAWS Club Bylaws are available at the meeting or soft copy may be requested from any Executive Committee member. IMPORTANT BYLAW NOTE: The following proposal was made at the January meeting and is being posted here as notification to all club members: BYLAW REVISION PROPOSAL Due to the amount of concern regarding the information pertained in the Membership Directory being posted on the website, the below proposal was made at the club meeting on January 4, 2015 by Christine Van Leir. The motion was seconded by Regina Johnson ARTICLE V SECTION IV: DUTIES OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBERSHIP a. The Vice President of Membership will: 1. Recruit new members 2. Process membership applications 3. Collect membership dues 4. Maintain and distribute the membership directory 5. Maintain/order all Club store items and participate in year-­‐end financial audit. 6. Maintain attendance records of meetings, activities, door prize contributions for the purpose of calculating good standing status of members. 7. Coordinate and distribute the new member’s packet. 8. Immediately notify the Newsletter Editor, VP of Social, and NCM Ambassador of any changes in membership. 9. Post membership information and directory updates and meeting dates and location on the club website. 10. Email meeting date/location reminders to membership. 11. Calculate and maintain club member participation points as indicated in Attachment III. 12. Submit an article to the Newsletter Editor for the monthly newsletter. If you do buy a ticket please let me know. 2015 Z06 Engine Build Program: The 2015 Z06 engine build program will be starting March 2015. Customers will be able to assemble the 650 hp supercharged LT 4 engine for the cars at the Performance Build Center at the Bowling Green Assembly Plan. So for those of you ordering your new Z06 you can use order code PBC and for $5,000 you can have a full day experience with the assembly technician in the Performance Build Center who will instruct and oversee the build. A personalized engine plaque identifying the owner/builder and the date of the build and a professional photography experience is also included. Motorsports Park: The MSP was named Outstanding Facility of the Year by the Race Track Business Conference. It was noted that having a facility like the MSP so close to the Corvette Assembly Plan provides a unique opportunity for performance research and development. Upcoming events: •

JANUARY MEETING MINUTES – Liz Furmanek
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm by Ken Scott, President. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a moment of silence was held. New members Debbie and Tim Hayden (1971 Blue rag top) were introduced. Standing Reports: Jim Buckley, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report. Christine Van Leir was the winner of the 50/50 ticket trivia question. Christine, VP of Membership, reported on membership, and upcoming club merchandise. She thanked (Secret Santa) Kim Sheldon for the donation th
of a laptop to log club membership information. Kris Daugherty, VP of Social, discussed the upcoming Chili cook-­‐off event to be held on January 17 at Fred and Mishell Warner’s home and upcoming events in February and March. Kim Sheldon, VP of Competition, reported on upcoming car shows and encouraged club members to participate in local car club shows. Mac McDonagh, former VP of Competition, handed out 2014 club awards. Kim reported that planning for the VDC show has begun and encouraged members to step up to chair/co-­‐chair committees. She also reported on the upcoming 24 hours at Daytona race in January. As current NCM Ambassador, Kim also provided information on raffles and NCM events. Jackie Holst, VP of Public Relations and Charity, reported the need to identify two/three, charities for future car shows. A vote was taken, and Pet Helpers, Fisher House, and Lowcountry Food Bank charities were nominated. New Business: Christine requested that the club consider a revision to the Bylaws regarding the club directory being posted on the website. A discussion occurred. Club members were encouraged to review this section as currently outlined in the Bylaws. A vote will be conducted at the club meeting in February. Mac McDonagh reported that honorary member, Dave James, member of the #3 Corvette racing team, has C5 director chairs available for purchase and monies raised to be donated to the NCM. A 1953 Corvette bank, donated to the club was auctioned. Ed Lipman was the high bidder and donated the monies to East Cooper Meals on Wheels. Ken discussed the need for club members to step up and help tow the club trailer. Andrea and Kevin Vest were the winners of the 50/50 raffle. The meeting was adjourned at 4:05 pm. Liz Furmanek 9
